I absolutely love this new system! I have been studying it since August, so anyone needing assistance; I am willing to help.
There are 3 modes to game play: Down Time, Exploration, and Encounter modes.
During Exploration Mode, we each choose an Exploration Activity, which may decide your Initiative.
Really great mechanic. It allows for a quicker "roaming the dungeon halls stuff".
I think that Bertrem, you may mean you are Searching? That is lookinh for traps and such with Perception.
Scout allows the group an additional +1 to Initiative. Not certain if two pcs doing Scout stacks.

Got it. I know the new rules add a layer of "Gamification" to table top. So I am hoping to try to interpret your words and give it a in-rule mechanic.
But then again that is kinda what ooc is for. Just to give me a heads up.
I really like these rules, but I know they can seem rather sterile. I know my wife has a hard time with them. She wants to be stealthing, looking around, and casting spells all at once. Hard to describe it as too much.
Thanks all for learning with me :)

Hey all...my IRL GM just sent this link over: Pathfinder2 Humble Bundle!
I'm thinking about buying it...$360 worth of pdfs and a physical copy of the basic PF2 core book for something like $30!

DM Nex |

Yeah, combat maneuvers are skill checks now, against “average” saves. Trips are usually against reflex, this one is against fort since it’s a special attack from the enemy.
https://2e.aonprd.com/Skills.aspx?ID=3
Some require you are trained in the skill.
No more CMD!
Some classes/backgrounds/ancestry’s have bonuses to some maneuvers. Like I know Rock Dwarves get a bonus to being tripped. Etc.

I will say that Kana knows this so you don't have to roll
My question was more about IF I should roll or if you want to do secret rolls. In the 2E game I run IRL my players appreciate the secret rolls since it allows me to come up with some wild stuff at times. It does help that one of the PCs is a charismatic story-telling gnome with bardic lore and dubious knowledge feat... So he often gets a little of the truth and a little of my imagination.
But I am fine how you are handling it, just wasn't sure at first.

DM Nex |

Yeah I can shoot for secret rolls as much as I can. Often times I just don't have the time to dig into all the characters skills.
When it matters I will do more secret rolls. Still learning, and also in too many systems so I forget sometimes :).
I think being an ancient Elf you have passing knowledge of what they are. But more detailed knowledge will have to come in later. And those might be secret rolls.
That being said, if someone does take dubious knowledge by some means, I will make sure to make it work.

On the topic of formulas, was the frost vial formula not being available just because Voz wasn't around, or is it that it can't be found in town? Is everything else that's common available? How do you feel about Advanced Player's Guide material? The Dread Ampoules sound pretty great, as do blight bombs and ghost charges.
If everything is available I think she'd get dread ampoule and the frost vial for now. If the frost vial isn't available she'd go with tanglefoot bag. Level 1 formulas are 1GP normally, so 1GP 9SP for both.

DM Nex |

Yeah I think I was over complicateing it. The place you would normally go is Voz's shop. But it's closed right now, but I don't want to lock down what is available.
So I kinda decided that you can find the basic things elsewhere. You might have just had to look around a bit more. Common item should be pretty common I think.
I am ok with all Paizo material. I have all the books and PDF. Go for it!

Mosquito. |

Apologies; I tend to do flavor post in between turns. No, that is not my actions for my turn.
The Perception was for his emblem; which our goblin may think is cool, but he definitely does not know what it represents.

DM Nex |

I was gone to a beach house and found myself unable to use my computer.
Sorry for the slow down everyone. My work should be getting right back on track. I finished my big project, and I am working on something small right now, so much more time on my computer!
Thank you everyone, and I am glad Vrolun you are back as well.

DM Nex |

So I was pursuing the Recruitment thread and ran across a homebrew Starfinder game that is not getting much attention. I would love for it to start.
If anyone is interested in submitting to it. I would love a chance to play starfinder (only GMed and played in one game that died after a week).
In interest of making it go through I thought I would petition my players!

DM Nex |

Yeah that could be a bit odd, for sure. Did seem like a throw away line. If it ends up being “weird” I will just lodge my complaint.
I went with the full “android shirren” so naked me is just a lot of bug carapace and extra limbs... going to be hard to “get weird” for my character.. will have to see.

Beryl Brighthammer |

I will get on levelling tonight, sorry for the delay. I was thinking cleric dedication, but now with the APG there are so many options!

Mosquito. |

The Medic Dedication is absolutely fantastic!
I have a Cleric 10 [Medic dedication/Champion dedication] healer in another game. His Medicine checks averages 80+ hps for 4 people at a time!

Bertrum Half-Wild |

I was going over my options last night. I have not had time to complete my level up yet either.
Is the APG info on-line yet?
Oohhh... the Mauler Archtype looks cool. How/When do we select Archtype Dedication feats?

Beryl Brighthammer |

You can take archetype feats instead of class feats, so for most (all?) classes that starts at level 2.
Medic dedication is a little awkward for Beryl as it really doesn't synergize with Chirurgeon; there's no point to being able to use crafting for treat wounds when your medicine is better. Blessed one seems better for healing, but it's not really Beryl thematically.
I think I'm going to go medic and eventually if we get a month of downtime retrain Chirurgeon into Bomber.
I didn't manage to finish levelling up (I'd also like to redesign my sheet for 2e, the layout I have on Beryl's profile is very 1e focused), but I did make a loot sheet for us. In doing so I even spotted that we got some thieves tools from Calmont, so that saves us a purchase!

DM Nex |

Excited to see everyone's levels. It seems like you can really start to expand as you level. The dedications are so neat.
I like the idea of the Mauler, even for story. Being able to carry that new sword is pretty great.
APG is all on https://2e.aonprd.com/
There should totally be downtime this game too, so retraining is totally possible, Beryl.
Bertrum let me know when you finish up and we can jump back in. No rush though..
Thanks again everyone. Excited to keep going :)

Beryl Brighthammer |

Beryl is also levelled up!
Skill Feat - Battle Medicine
Class Feat - Medic Dedication
New Formulae - Black Adder Venom, Lesser Comprehension Elixir

Bertrum Half-Wild |

Bertrum Level 2:
Skill Feat - Group Coercion
Class Feat - Mauler Dedication
New 1st lvl Spells - +Summon Animal
I keep reading this part and I want to make sure I'm clear on this:
"Increase all of your proficiency bonuses by 1 from your new level, and make other increases to your proficiency bonuses as necessary from skill increases or other class features. Increase any other statistics that changed as a result of ability boosts or other abilities.
Adjust bonuses from feats and other abilities that are based on your level."
-Sorry tired again...Does means all of my attacks, skills, and similar d20 roll bonuses all increase by +1?

Bertrum Half-Wild |

Before we go back, I want to make sure we divided up the weapons/treasures we found. Going over the Loot Sheet...which is awesome!...
As far as what I'm keeping now, it is the Bastard Sword and Silver Morningstar (as a backup/silver weapon) if possible, unless somebody else wants that as a primary weapon?
Someone should take the silver dagger since almost anyone can use it...and does anyone want the silver longsword? I hate to be 'meta,' but if the game is throwing silver weapons at us, it might behoove us to make sure we have some on us later just in case we need them.
Finally, is the 'Small Fang Talisman' Magical? If it is, what does it do? Or will I need to pay someone to find out what it does, if it is?

Bertrum Half-Wild |

Ok. I'm up to date I think. Game on!
Please note: I will still use and carry the spear as a first engagement item, usually for throwing if needed. Then I will draw the Big Sword afterward as needed.

Bertrum Half-Wild |

Just had a thought...does your AC go up when you level too? It uses a proficiency bonus as part of it, so I must assume it does.
That makes my AC 18 now and 20 when using my shield.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Question all:
Do you want me to continue spoilering a Save you need to roll? Or just do it myself? Everyone needs to read through old posts for items that might relate to them.
Vrolun:
Just wanted to confirm that you are choosing not to Flurry of Blows. You can do it once every round. Which gives you another hit. Yes it lowers the chance to hit, but its another chance.
ie:
What you did:
Action 1: Stride
Action 2: Strike
Action 3: Strike
what you could do:
Action 1: Stride
Action 2: Flurry of Blows
Strike 1
Strike 2
Action 3: Strike 3
Also your fists are Agile. So you only need to -4 then -8. If you hit 4, times because of Flurry, it is Normal, -4, -8, -8. You don't need to go below -8.
Just want to make sure you use all of your abilities. No harm in using Flurry every round.

Beryl Brighthammer |

I quite like rolling saves myself (when possible), but sometimes it's necessary as the GM to know if someone has saved or not, so I have no problem if you roll them for us either.
Would it be possible to keep a total of damage to everyone in the round summary, not just enemies? As a sort of healing character it would help me to keep track of who's injured. Thanks!
Oh and one other thing, I think the map on roll20 is set to D&D distance at the minute (so 2 diagonals is 10 feet rather than 15), any chance you could switch it to Pathfinder?

DM Nex |

I will shoot for everyone to roll their own, when needed. But will roll for you if it needs to happen asap.. etc.
I can start to track user damage too, bit of overhead, but I think that is possible. I hope users update their headline HP after getting hit, but I know people don't always have time.
Roll20 is already fixed!

Bertrum Half-Wild |

Honestly. I am find either way. I think that for this being a new system to most here; everyone is catching on splendidly!
I agree.

Beryl Brighthammer |

Thanks GM! I'm also really enjoying it. If the health tracking thing is too onerous don't worry about it - you have enough to keep track of and I certainly wouldn't want this to become a chore for you!
