At the very top of the page is "My Account" click on it and it will take you to your account page. Near the middle of that page there should be an messageboard settings box with an edit button that takes you to the first of multiple pages of avatars you have to choose from (scroll down a little to see them on that first page). Pick a good one!

One other note. The little number beneath each avatar image on the messageboard settings page indicates how many other users have selected that avatar.
Nice choice Syrinx. It goes well with the name.
