Non-advanced Rust Monster

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Is it me, or are there stats for non-advanced rust monsters somewhere? I have #346, but I didn't see any rust monster stats except for O-akasabi-sama. Are they published in another WotC book somewhere?

The Monster Manual is the book the rust monster is in.

O-akasabi-sama.

Too cool. For school. (Even post-graduate work!)

I have to say that this little blurb just inspired me to make my Shou expatriate PC's life just a little more interesting...

:) In the cartoon the fighter jumped into the wizard's arms. Mmmm +5 unholy longsword munch munch.

Doh! Yeah...I don't know how I missed it in the MM, for some reason it just slipped past me and then I read on the Wizard's site where it was. Boy...I feel silly....

Don't feel silly. We all make mistakes! (And you didn't even make a mistake...) *G*

The fun part of that, for me, was when Wes came over with a sticky note with "O-akasabi-sama" written on it and said, "Translate this." I got to put my neophyte knowledge of Japanese to work (along with my black-belt in Dogpile.com-fu). :)

So what does it mean? or did I miss it in the article?

Oh right! It basically translates as "Lord Rusty."

*grins* Indeed. My Japanese friend had a blast with it.

Speaking of translation into Japanese, after I'm done playing in the AoW, I'm thinking about converting it into an L5R variant. I wonder if the players will recognize Diamond Lake in its Japanese incarnation. =)

Back on topic, I can't stop saying how awesome this article was to me!

For those who are interested, Mike Mearls has redeveloped the Ogre Mage (as a CR 5 creature).
I really like the redevelopment, because I thought CR 8 was way too high. This new version makes much more sense.

I greatly dislike the weakened rusting ability of the redeveloped rust monster though.
