bolded emphasis mine...

i would highly recommend you watch at least some of the following movies.

Hayao Miyazaki's "Princess Mononoke" & "Spirited Away"
The Wachowski Bro.'s "Animatrix"
Katsuhiro Otomo's "Akira"
Mamoru Oshii's "Ghost in the Shell"
Rintaro's "Metropolis" (Metoroporisu in Japanese)

all of which have deep philosphical underpinnings, serious writing, and adult situations plaguing (mostly) 3-dimensional characters. (the dialogue can get a little ham-handed sometimes, but that is usually an artifact of the translation from the original, rather than a true indication of sophomoric intent)

granted, most are not American, but then again, we're supposed to be a world community, no?

of course, the DL movie will quite likely bite, as we were shown with not 1 but 2 awful Dungeons & Dragons movies.

please don't rag on animation, it gets enough guff already.

I've seen Princess Mononoko, Akira and Ghost in a Shell.

Ghost in a Shell was a big disappointment, far weaker then I had expected.

In anycase maybe we will just have to leave this to a matter of opinion. In the end I know we need animation - CGI is animation and good CGI beats the heck out of plasticine or puppet dragons. Its just what kind of animation that is needed that seems to be open to contention.

Now that is the best D&D movie idea in a long time!

Oh yeah, that would be awesome. (raises both hands, and threatens those around him until they raise their hands as well)

Liberty's Edge

I've thunk on it long and hard. And Hasbro holds the license on all this WOTC stuff, right? Ergo, they'll see that it's done at least half-proper, if for no other reason than it will be a potentially mondo bigtime action figure sales vehicle.
If it goes the straight-to-dvd route, you lose potential action figure sales.

w00t! OotS! OotS!

Keifer as Raistlin! Hot damn!

My vote for Elistan - Donald Sutherland. :P

actually, i think Donald sutherland would be a total hoot as Fizban, now that you bring him up

Well, I don't have much faith in this. After Dungeons & Dragons came out (and now the new one Dragon God or whateverthehell), I really just don't want to watch another mutilation. And they talk about making an Elric movie (The books I love and would recommend in a heartbeat)... I fear the day. Unless they made it like the new Final Fantasy movie, there is no way they can capture the feeling of DL and Elric. Please, if you can't afford to make a good fantasy movie, don't make one.

I have never seen/heard Donald Sutherland in his roles as beeing a "good" guy except as Hawkeye decades ago. His voice would be good. Could work...
