These questions are for you people who play, have or use some of the rules of Iron Heroes:
*Have you ever thought about adding the other races (dwarf, half orc etc) to the game? If so, did you modify any of the rules? Ex: Like the 2 traits that the pcs get at the beginning
*Do you think that the rules for combat in Iron Heroes are better than the regular rules from D&D? It's obvious that the combats in Iron Heroes are supposed to last a lot more than regular fights and that the characters have more abilities by far but the thing is, doesn't the game get slowed down with all the extra abilities and stuff, like calculating how many points you have in your pool, and if every character has a pool even the Dm has to stop to calculate the npcs' pools..it can get confused and ruin the fight.
So, what I wanna know is, did you have this kind of trouble during combats or not? Any advices?

As I am one of the few, as far as I know, on the message boards here who has used Iron Heroes rules, I will try to shed some light ...

We talked about this, but it came to naught because the DM only wanted humans in his homebrew campaign. What I thought would be a good way to do it is similar to what you suggest. Give each race 1 or 2 automatic traits ( in addition to the ones each character gets), and maybe a stat adjustment here or there - like dwarves getting the Short or Stout traits and maybe a +1 to Constitution. Then give humans a third trait or maybe an extra feat to compensate.

I will admit, when we first started playing, it took us a while to get the hang of some of the combat rules, so fighting did take a little longer. But after some time, we started to get into the groove and found that the system really is combat friendly. Hell, the entire game was really designed around fighter-type characters. It took me a little longer than everyone else to get comfortable, because I had only played 3rd edition once, and this was just different enough.
The feat system is really nice. Each level you gain in a feat simply adds another ability or increases any potential bonuses, so that isn't too bad. And the Token Pools aren't that bad either, as long as you keep the number of pools you have access to managable ( my character only has one right now). I don't think any of our NPCs have access to Token Pools, though I could be wrong. It probably wouldn't matter much anyway, since our DM is pretty together and keeps track of everything on his laptop.
The skill system is also really nice. My first level Harrier had 32 skill points. And the Skill Groups are great. This serves to emphasize the fact that the game is more about skills and such then it is about magic or magic items.
All in all, I really enjoy the system. If you want some more insight, head over to our DMs website

and check out the forum. I believe he has some discussion on there about IH rules and any more that you contribute be appreciated. Hope this helps. Your truly,
