Dear Paizo, WotC, et all,...
Yesterday I recieved your package in the mail. While I remember the buzz on the messageboards about the "Gaming Care Packages" from a while back, in the midst of life rebuilding, job searching, and regular end-of-school insanity, I had forgotten about it.
So it was a very pleasant surprise, and I want to make sure that those involved know that thier efforts and well-wishes were both recieved and sincerely appreciated.
Like any good gamer, I promise to share my new gaming supplies with my friends when they come over, (Tonite in fact!)
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and good intentions. The spirit in which you offer this is icing on the cake of my (and hopefully many others!) almost-rebuilt lives.
May you all never have to go thru what those of us who live(d) in the Gulf region went thru, and may you still be blessed by the goodwill of your fellow gamers and friends as I am!
Thank you all, and God Bless.

Ken,
If you don't mind me asking, whereabouts are you located? I'm from the Gulf Coast originally, and I'm interested in hearing how things are going from someone on the spot (so to speak).
Good luck. It's been a crazy year for everyone. =/

Hey, it's our pleasure, and the very least we could do to help you guys out. I can only imagine what it must have been like - the thought of losing all my RPG books and board games fills me with a fear akin to protecting my two kids. We're just sorry that we couldn't do more! But with any luck, those goodies will get you guys back up and going again.
Good luck!

I'd just like to note that the folks who most deserve to be thanked are Rob Head (it was his idea), Cosmo Eisele (who helped track potential recipients), Michelle Barrett (who packed the boxes), the folks at White Wolf and Magnificent Egos who provided some of the product, and all of the paizo.com customers who generously donated money to the project.

Gwydion,
I don't mind at all, for the last 9 years (till Katrina) we lived in the "Mid-City" area of New Orleans. (My wife is a native Southern Belle). Since then we have been relocated in Tulsa, OK (my old stomping grounds). We still have family living in the area (Kenner and Houma)and the re-building is finally moving, but still going slow.
Personally speaking, we were pretty lucky. We were hit harder than some, but made out a lot better than others. If you want details, give me your email and I'll be happy to fill you in on what I know.
Whereabouts on the Gulf were you from, and where did you move to?
And thanks for the "good luck", It has indeed been a crazy year for all, and I'll happily take all the luck I can get at this point! :)

I knew there were many involved, which was why I was deliberately generalistic, as I wanted to make sure that EVERYONE involved knew they were appreciated. (Also, I didn't want to offend anybody by listing names and accidentally leaving someone out.) :P
So to be clear, Thank you to ALL who were involved in this generous act of goodwill in ANY way, shape, or form.
And (since you mentioned names) a special thanks to Rob, Cosmo and Michelle for actually making it happen, as well as the folks at White Wolf and Magnificent Egos for the generous contributions to the effort.
All flowery language and multi-syllabic words aside, I just really appreciated the thought. I can honestly say that these items will always have a special place in my heart and (rebuilt) gaming collection.
Carry on gamers, and God Bless!

I'm a Broussard on my mother's side, so my family is scattered all over the Lafayette, New Orleans, and Houma regions. I lived in Houma for a while, and many of my college friends were from Ocean Springs, Hattiesburg, Biloxi, and Gulfport. I've lived in Ohio for five years now, and fortunately everyone I know made it out alive. I haven't been back since Katrina hit - I'll be going down there later in the year, but I just don't know what to expect (besides bad).
Good luck, man. It's a bit inadequate, but good luck.

Broussard,... doesn't your family OWN most of Louisiana by now?!?
:)
When you go back, a lot of the mess has been cleaned up,... but a LOT more hasn't even started yet. My wife's parent's just got the contractor lined up to start on thier house in the last 2 weeks.
Even the "better" parts of town still have the high-water marks clearly visible on all the buildings. I think it will all be fine, it just seems to be taking FOR-EV-ER, especially for the ones still living there.
Thanks for the well-wish, I'll take all the good luck I can get!

I received a care package just before Memorial Day. Thanks to everyone involved. May I never have the need to get one of these again! or to send one out!
for Gwydion, et al: I am in Uptown New Orleans in the Fountainbleu/Broadmoor area. I would estimate about 25-50% of residents are back in the area. Many businesses remain closed. Most of Claiborne Avenue is empty. But at least all the traffic lights work now.
