Major player stuff ups during the Path?

Shackled City Adventure Path

What mistakes have your players made during the path that came back to haunt them later in the game.

For example -

Following their return to Cauldron in Lifes Bazaar the party met with Vhalantru to discuss what occured during their rescue attempt. They took great pleasure in retelling their meeting with the 'pitiful beholder' that they allowed to live after defeating it soundly and commanding it never bother the city again. As you would imagine Vhalantru found the story extremely interesting and praised the party for their heroics.

I'm looking forward to Vhalantru 'rubbing the parties nose in it' later in the path.

Any stories would be more than appreciated.

Heh, well this is more like a minor flub-up then a major one, but my players are just beginning Drakthar's Way and the players were prowling the streets of Cauldron at night and camping out at the locations where graffiti had been left. After three or four nights they were becoming restless so the barbarian had a brilliant idea. He decided to fight fire with fire. So he took the spellthief aside (she was the only one that could speak goblin) and asked her to accompany him around town late one night writing "Thump-thump is better than Drakthar.", "Drakthar is dung head.", "Thump-thump squash Drakthar’s head." and other messages on the walls of Cauldron. His intent was to get the enemy looking for him. The spellthief (being chaotic neutral) was more than happy to help.

Early in that morning one of the city guard came across them scribbling on the wall. It was hilarious how the barbarian tried to justify their actions. The guard sent them home and reported them to Captain Skellarang who paid the barbarian a visit the next afternoon and properly chastised the half-orc for putting graffiti all over the city and told him not to do it again.

He should have corrected the half-orc's spelling and made him write it out a hundred times over the palace walls.

We're in "Drakthar's Way," so we're relatively early in the campaign, but we've had a couple things come up so far.

The first flub up was in the Malachite Hold. The first time the group faced Kazmojen, they got their rears kicked and ran away. They came back down after a very short time and the NPC bard got lucky with a Tasha's hideous laughter on poor ol' Kazmojen. (I felt bad about an NPC taking him down, but the players didn't seem to have any problem with it.)

Well, instead of just taking care of him then and there, the group tied him up with rope and left him there while they took the prisoners they rescued back up to Cauldron. The look on their faces when they came back and all they found were bits of rope was classic.

One PC to another: "What do you mean you didn't take his weapons and armor off him?!" :-)

The second flub hasn't come back to haunt them, but it will. The PCs were in the investigative stage of Drakthar's Way and one night they came across a warehouse with noises coming from it. To make a long story short, the group in the warehouse was a bunch of kids who broke in because it contained alcohol and they were looking for some kicks. The party chased them down, dropping one and hurting another (both via magic missile).

(Because of the darkness and the cloaks the kids were wearing, the PCs could only tell the relative size of the creatures. They decided to attack anyway.)

One of the kids was Isilia Taskerhill, the younger sister of Annah Taskerhill. The party took the group of kids back to the Taskerhills, where Annah answered the door and berated her sister, more because she was caught by the PCs than because of what she did (breaking into the warehouse). The PCs were feeling more than a little smug after the exchange. Of course, they still don't know that they're going to be charged with aggravated assault with intent to kill yet.

So far, they haven't done anything that has long term repercussions, but there's still plenty of time... :-)

Liberty's Edge

My party had a similar moment with Kazmogen, though it ended up being a bit worse for them then him just running away. They managed to drop him and put him in a pair of manacles. He was stripped of his weapon but not of his armor.

They set him down and set about trying to question him, but at the time he was having none of it. Feeling rather bold about talking to a bound opponent the parties cleric of Wee Jas moved over and delivered a threat along with an inflict minor. That was enough for Kazmogen to snarl and make a strength check.

A natural 20 later Kazmogen was at the clerics throat, taking him down to 0hp at the top of the round. The rest of the party managed to quickly cut Kaz down, and sure the cleric tried to brag later that he managed to hold his feet(I mean he could still take a single standard action a round without passing out after all) against a guy who dropped their barbarian below zero in one round during the initial fight, but he certainly never came that close to a prisoner again.
