My Detroit Red Wings get their coffin nailed shut as their poor play during the playoffs end them packing. Sheesh, for such a good year, the defense played very sluggish in their own goal during shootins while the scummy Oilers pressed hard and aggressivly to cause turn overs and often scoring. They took advantage of the Wings overconfidence and lack of hard play by my beloved team, but I still dont like it. My boys played with legs of rubber most of the series; only their excellent playbook kept them alive this long. many of the goal scores had very easy and open shots to the unprotected goal and just missed. Shanny and Williams especially. It could be said that Williams, though a great player, was the lynchpin that broke and started the Red Wings collapse with his unneccessary roughness penalty that got the Oilers their first goal and rallied their team. Legacy wasn't a bad goaly, but Roloson was a force of nature, it was like he could do no wrong. With trepidation do I await the next coming year of hockey.

I know how you feel Valegrim... My Montreal Canadiens have their hands full with those pesky Hurricanes, and I'm afraid that if they don't get their act together, they'll be joining your Red Wings on the golf course as of tonight.
Go Habs Go!!

Heh. Try being a Flyers fan instead. Ya'll got nothin' on me! :D
Philly teams never fail to get your hopes up and then dash them to bits in a holocaust of bad playing. I live in Delaware about 45min-1 hour from philly. I root for pathetically bad teams just to avoid the Philly team syndrome. Can't wait for the Detroit Lions to start playing again.

Lol, I am from Detroit originally and our winning team are the Red Wings and Pistons; Tigers in a pinch. It has been my lifelong dream that my Lions win the superbowl at least once in my lifetime; as I am now 40+ this may not be attainable, but I dream; this year looks up; but every year does; sigh. Nice to know I am not the only guy who roots for the Lions, Thankgiving is my superbowl and last year we got crushed. I understand your pain for those of you who are Flyers fans and whatnot; one of my best buds is a Pittsburgh fan; great at football; but they sucked at hockey coming in like last place this year.

Started rootin' for the Lions way back when they lost their quarterback for a while and back-up, Eric Hipple stepped up and was amazing (late70's-early 80's)and I love fighting with people about who the greatest RB is (Barry Sanders). If only they could've put together a slightly better line, he would have a SB ring and the arguments would stop.
Can't wait till Thanksgiving!!!FH

Ha! Try being from Buffalo. Aside from the great play that the Sabres are currently displaying, my prediction is that they will crush everyone in their path and then lose again in game 7 of the finals in double-overtime. Note the "again."
And let's just not talk about football...

Yeah, the Wings deserved their fate this year - lord did they suck. By not adapting to the Oilers tactics (as the Oiler's did to their's) they sealed their own coffins. even the last game they one was on moving screen that would have even been called in the NBA. Now the Pistons that's the team to watch right now. The Red Wings played a bit too much like the Dever Nuggets to go any further.
Lairing in Redford,

PS How ironic is it that Alan Trammell of Tigers fame was a part of both the second best team in the entire history of Major League Baseball (1984) and the second worst (2003 was it?) as well?
