Two of my PC's are in sodden hold, two others are being led by a doppelganger to go and "free" the others. Next session they launch their escape and complete sodden hold. I am looking for better clues to get to the mind flayers lair. Here is what I am looking for:
1) Clues of reasonable difficulty, I want my players to have to think to find out where this place is
2) If they don't think I dont want them to have a chance to find this lair, if this happens they will have a few assasination attempts and that will be it for HoHR (we will jump to Champions Belt)
The clues in the adventure as published were kind of silly. The note that says "Meet me under the Cold Forge" would get huge laughs from my players, it might of well have been "Meet me at my super secret hideaway 217 Processional Drive".
I am thinking a bunch of notes in Telakins desk that all have meetings, many of them end in the line "Meet me under the forge." THis way the PC's can guess that the lair is near a Forge... but what forge? There must be many of them in greyhawk.
The next clue can be given when the drow attack, I have a barbarian with stacked Wilderness Lore/Knowledge Nature in my group so I liked the Mold idea. But how can this narrow down the search to which particular forge?
Any Ideas? The city is Greyhawk so any greyhawk specific clues are welcome.
How did the link to Zyrog's go in your group?

Really amazing maps there... I have the boxed sets so I don't need them, but still pretty amazing. So barring any ideas I guess the clues will be:
1. There are lots of notes in Telakins box from Zyrog that say to meet near "The forge" wherever that is.
2. When the drow attack (a couple days later IMC) the barbarian will spot a rare mold that he saw before in the artisans quarter. (There will only be one forge in the artisans quarter.
3. Lastly if they fail any checks to find it I will use the paladin from this adventure to help the PC's (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/vv/20050715a)
Is it kind of hokey to have a paladin in charge of the sewers or is it just me?

Well, one does expect paladins to have their minds in, uh, the sewers. If it were my city I'd probably have a 10th level expert who is a specialist in architecture/engineering as chief of the bureau of public works. But given the amount of bad guys who hang out in the sewers of various D&D cities, we shouldn't be too surprised to see a paladin get involved.
