Ilthane's plan... is she just stupid?

Age of Worms Adventure Path

Ok. I was rereading the Blackwall keep adventure, when something struck me.

Ilthane's plan was to put the worms into the baby lizardfolk to bypass their natural armor, correct? Well I was thinking about what would happen if she succeded. Then I realized: Nothing much.

If Ilthane's plan succeds, she'll have a buttload of ticked off lizardfolk on her hands, which she may have to fight, depending on if the tribe is under new leadership, and what to gain?

Broodlings.

Weak little lizard creatures that can... swim.

The logic behind this was that the broodlings would grow into lizardfolk monstrosities that would stalk the earth, killing whatever they pleased.

Undead don't age.

So what is this? Did Ilthane have some potion that would let the undead creatures grow to there full size or what?

I'm guessing that the lizardfolk hatchling/spawn of kyuss plan was an experiment for bigger and better things. Maybe her plan was to see how the worms affected the hatchlings and if those results were favorable, introduce the eggs into the nests of dragons to create miniature undead dragons. While that's not terribly impressive from a pure rules minded standpoint, that course of action could provide leverage against dragons unwillingly to join with Dragotha or to make undead footsoldiers for Kyuss' army; even a hatchling dragon is more than a match for a group of 1st level characters, which is probably the bottom line for most human armies. So spawn of kyuss hatclings would be even more effective.

Think animal testing; she tests the egg out on the lizardfolk to see how well it would work on dragons.

She did it mainly to start an infestation of worms that would spread throughout the entire tribe, then through the swamp, and hopefully through that area. The carriers need not be full-sized, just be a haven for the worms.

Seems feasible. Except I seem to remember that bypassing the lizardfolk's AC bonus was the real reason that she decided to make the egg.

Also, what would the stats for the lizardfolk who was infected with kyuss worms be if he doesn't get killed? I'm imagining what that'd look like, and I must admit, it's pretty cool.

Wait... If Ilthane wanted to eventually expand to dragons, why not use her own egg for the test? She doesn't seem to adverse to testing things on her current children. Why not just put worms into them?

The plan isn't to have the Kyusslings age, it's what they can do. Specifically, any humanoid corpse they touch becomes a spawn of Kyuss. The plan is, the lizardfolk attack Blackwall Keep. The Free City of Greyhawk sends an army into the Mistmarsh, killing all the lizardfolk and losing a goodly number of their own forces. Then the egg hatches. Spawnlings spew out of the egg chamber, gracing every single dead lizardfolk and human with their wormy presence, which quickly spreads into the living soldiers.

There's your undead army right there.

Incidentally, something spelled out like this (what exactly Ilthane intends to do with the Kyusslings) might be a good idea for a sidebar in the HC.

Hm... I see. And this is why I'm not a Dragon. Or a wizard. Or a Cleric.

Darn foresight!

Wait a second, how can the Kyusslings infest the lizardfolk and humans if they can only move through water?

I just thought of something. Do worms have an overmind type thing guiding there intellegence? For example, if one spawn of Kyuss has a plan, and then infects a human with worms, would the new Spawn know the plan? I only mention this because the worms replace the intellegence of the host...

Yup; this is more or less exactly the purpose those little spawnlings serve.
