Question to German subscribers: what is your experience with your Dungeon subscription lately?
How long does it take for an issue to reach you? Does it vary from month to month? Do issues get lost a lot?
I am asking to see if I should consider re-taking a subscription. I live in Berlin and used to have a Dungeon subscription (two years ago), but was disappointed with the delays involved in the delivery.
My first issue took 8 or 9 weeks to arrive, then the second got lost and the third arrived (with a replacement copy for the lost one) as the next issue was hitting the shelves of my local gaming store. So by that time I had all my issues, but was one issue back compared to what my local store in Berlin had.
I was kind of frustated with the situation and Paizo was kind enough to cancel my subscription after I had discussed that with them.
Since then I have been buying Dungeon every month from a German shop but I am thinking that I am losing on the price since having a subscription would be cheaper.
So I might re-subscribe, but would like to hear from you. How is the situation lately? Has it improved compared to two years ago?

Well, I can´t tell from two years ago, as I subscribed just last year, and recieved 6 or so issues from that subscription. So I´m not able to compare that.
But the delivery times seem to be ok to me. I´m behind several weeks from the US delivery date, and you might be able to get the copies earlier than that in some stores. But that is to be expected considering it is an US import, I think. On the average up to now, delivery date was three weeks after the issue in question was sent out from paizos printers, as given on the respective internet pages for the magazines. There was not a single issue missing to date.
The european retailer The place for games started sending Dungeon and Dragon bundled together a while ago, so they wait until they have an issue each before sending. That´s ok to me, it saves postage, and reduces costs no one gets any profit from.
And it really is cheaper subscribing.

I'm interested in how the game differs when played by people from different cultures. What authors/mythologies influence a German gamer? I mean is it pretty much the same Tolkien/Leiber/Vance/Moorcock/Lovecraft type thing that I (think) I notice in U. S., or do you guys come at it from a different direction?
Anyone who reads this, I know I'm speaking in generalizations; there's a plethora of mythologies we tap over here. But in the original DMG I definitely got the jist that the aforementioned authors were the most influential to G Gygax in D&D's formative years.

As an additional thought, if someone from, some other country reads this, and wants to comment, I'm down with that too.

I can speak only for myself. Of course the standard fiction is a 'standard' and interwined with the rpg's. The one of the differences I noticed, is the sense of history. I live in a heavy urbanized area, called Ruhr area, yet I have just a stroll of 10 minutes to the original wall of the city, which is about a 1000 years old. Everywhere around us is a legacy of the history and if I like to know how something medieval worked, it just takes a short trip and I find some of the original things.
One other thing I noticed, is the difference of distances, places in Germany are not far away. The next country is never more then 350 miles away. This means most of times a different language, a different culture, another point of view.Another thing is that (please, don't be offended) that americans seems to have a high threshold on violence and a low on sex. So you see here more naked flesh and less violence. Another thing is about patriotism, if you would show the same patriotism that is normal in USA in Germany, you would immediatly be branded as Nazi.
About classic mythology, I like to visit the places from where some stories come from and soak the 'feel' of this places.
We (our rpg group) discussed the difference of flavor sometimes and agreed, that some of things mentioned above make things for players and the characters different.

I apologize, and will start a new thread immediately, titled "Question to foreign gamers." I did not mean to hijack, just reading the thread got me thinking, and I went to typing. Again, I am sorry.
So, I think that it's now time to conclude that German subscribers are either:
a) non-existent
b) not active on the Paizo Boards
c) active on the Boards, but don't want to disclose their Germanity
I'll probably subscribe (based on Stebehil's feedback) when AP3 comes out.

Well, for one, I'm German. I just didn't get around to replying to this thread.
The subscription delivery has been a bit erratic in the 10 month I've been subscribing, but I'll still resubscribe, I think, when the time comes.

Ok, ok, I am German and no, I have no subscription.
As I get my actual issue pretty fast from "Dragonworld", and the fact that some subscribers get their issues after me (even in the US) I decided to order them seperately as soon as they are available at my "not-so-local-gaming-store".
When 3E came out and I got my first issue of Dungeon and Dragon, I ordered about 20 back issues of both magazines. I am a faithful reader, even if I don't subscribe!
btw The backissues took about 3 days to arrive here in germany, after the order was placed! Pretty easy and fast service (just an info for those of you who think about ordergin back issues.).
I'll probably subscribe (based on Stebehil's feedback) when AP3 comes out.
Make sure you subscribe earlier rather than later - I made the mistake of missing the first in this Adventure Path, but luckily my newsagent is slow at gettin in Dungeon magazine and so had the previous one in stock :)

Regarding subscribing on time, it would be neat if Paizo was offering some subscription option like "subscribe for the AP3", so even if you buy it now, Paizo knows that what you intend them to do is to start sending you your 12 copies when the AP actually starts.
Would that be an option (Vic?)?

Does the site of theplaceforgames still work. I ordered a Dungeon subscription a few days ago, but got no confirmation e-mail. So I wanted to contact them via their website today to ask if they have received my subscription, but only got the message, that my e-mails could not be delivered?Btw I am from Austria but got no subscription so far.
I wondered that theplaceforgames did not update the information about the paizo magazine status, but as I got my copies today, it didn´t bother me much.
I subscribed directly from the paizo homepage, and encountered no problems so far.Stefan
