Last laugh activities

Shackled City Adventure Path

I'm looking for some specific things the last laugh is involved in while the party is away from Cauldron. (specifically, between the tax riot in DL and the assasination attempt in SotSP).

Does anyone have any ideas or tips?

Thanks!

In SotSP it mentions that the LL has scaled back some of its operation in preperation for the planar junction. I would see the leadership tying up loose ends, perhaps working on a plan b if the party of someone else manages to halt the process, or if it outright fails.

thanks Walter,
While those activities make perfect sense, I think they're a bit boring. I was looking for something with a bit more attitude. Something my PC's can sink their teeth in.

They kind of drop off the radar later in the game. I can understand why from a story point of view. But its no fun when one of your PC's wants to take them over.

What's happening in your game Chief that requires more info on them (out of interest)?

I agree completely, I suppose the guild could make a bid for control of the city. The lord mayor is gone, Vahalantru has been an ally, but he stands to gain more, and the cagewrights really dont need him anymore. While the population loves V they dont like the taxes nor the 1/2 orcs. The last laugh could easily use thse as a spring board to power.

Well, the direct reason is that the Ranger in my party died when she stepped into the flame at the end of Test of the smoking eye, and decided to create a new character. A rogue as it turns out.

I asked her to incorporate the Last Laugh into her background, because that helps me during Lords of Oblivion. I want to include some minor antagonist type stuff before the party gets to that chapter.

the bigger reason, though, is that the last laugh is an extremely cool name, and it looks like an extremely cool organisation. But in the AP, it just doesn't get a chance to shine. I think the last laugh is the AP's most poorly used asset. A real pitty if you ask me.

hmm. you got my gears turning there.

How about this:

The last laugh decides to make their own public pid for power. They're sponsoring a populist mayor of their own, promising reasonable new taxes, a reduction of guards on the city's payroll and the restoration of order to the city. Simultaniously, they're slandering Vhalantru and Severen Navalant.

The last laugh is in the perfect position to put forward a candidate that's able to resist big V's manipulation. Thye're quite capable of making the guard and the council look bad and they have enough resources at their disposal to pull it off without a hitch. For example, a sharp increase in Jester coins could severely upset Cauldron's allready fragile economy. Especially if word gets out that they're more reliable than cauldron's original dubloons.

A possible (and quite ironic) hook is that Big V petitions the PC's to help him unmask the Last Laugh as the culprits behind the candidate mayor.

I have finally found a computer that has allowed me to access the paizo message boards once again! I haven't been able to reply to any messages for over 6 frustrating months! meanwhile I have let Skie's Treasury slip from the board so I had better add to that and to the websit soon.

But back to the point at hand...

Chief Slaad, I wrote up a length document on a good thieves guild called the Acquirers and Explorers. You can find this on the SCAP Webpage (I know you are a regular viewer and contributer to the site), At the end of this document I go into a great deal of detail about the activities of the Last Laugh and their impact on Cauldron and the Acquirers. If you are interested have a look.

I really like the idea of expanding the Last Laughs activities and presence also. I had the Last laugh attack the Acquirers Headquarters, despose of some prominant citizens and act as direct antagonists to the party. The Last Laugh assassinated two of the Acquirers leaders with a 'sleeper' and then made an attempt on the party. In the end I will give the party and their allies the opportunity to attack the Last Laugh headquarters in response.

All in all, if things go to plan, it should be an exciting few side treks.

Yes, thank you. I have been using this list and am about to come to the end of it. This has been a wonderful resource.

Thanks Frank. I'll try my best to write the next chapter up asap though I think I'll skip Chapter 6 because it is extremely likely that the party won't be in the city for this chapter.

Anyway back to the point at hand - sorry Chief Slaad, I like your idea with the coins. So you're saying that the Last Laugh would flood the market to create instability in the local ecconomy and therefore the goverment. Is this an attempt to create pressure on the Lord Mayor and the remaining 'good' councillors allowing Vhalantru to make an easy transition into the leadership position when he disappears? Or are they targeting the government, including Vhalantru, in general?

The other thing I would love to find/create is the Last Laugh Guildhouse. Has anyone made one or have a thieves guildhouse handy I could use?

Thanks

The plan would be to overthrow the entire council. Of course, economic instability alone wouldn't do this. But if you combine it with some civil unrest and a few scandals, I think we should be right on target.

b.t.w.,

I've been searching for your aquirers document on the scap resources page, but couldn't find it. Do you remember it's location?

as for a guildhouse... have you tried the 'map a week' on the WotC site? They have some pretty good maps of locations such as this haunted house

I'm trying to remember myself but I believe I called it by the overly long title of - The Exploration and Acquisition Division of the Dorecementary Museum - or something along those lines.

I'll have a look through the mpas on offer. Thanks.
