Hiya Guys,
I’ve just started flood season with my guys and would like your opinion on some issues. Firstly I’ve got one of my players wanting to follow the assassin path. Now I don’t agree that someone should be able to just kill a random person and then go up in assassin levels, nor be able to level up without a mentor\guild. I was thinking whether or not to use the Alley bashers \ last laugh or make a new guild but decided on the last laugh.
I noticed that there were a few notes that Jill could develop a relationship with one of the characters and that further along the path there is a final confrontation with Jill where it notes that she doesn’t like her boss and that she may listen to one of the characters she has a relationship with if they role a diplomacy check.
What I have done is made Jill locate my PC and offer to teach him levels in assassin but each level requires him to complete a specific hit. Before she even made this agreement she made him do an 'initiation' test which I made him assassinate the last remaining leader of the Alley bashers just because there more of an inconvenience (to the last laugh) than anything and a good test of the PC's skills.
Am I going to come up against any issues by having Jill as his mentor? I made the specific comment to the PC that Jill has made it clear that he is working for HER and NOT the LAST LAUGH just because I was worried that if he has to kill Last Laugh members it wouldn’t be such an issue and also this way Jill and my PC could become allies towards the end of the campaign.
I also want to be a little bit of a mongrel and have my PC have a mark that the rest of the group needs to either keep alive or extract information from just so that it’s not a walk in the park for him. Is there anyone in mind that I could have him kill that wouldn’t completely ruin the story line?
Does anyone have any assassin missions that they have given their pcs before? I just don’t think I want to make 10 stand alone missions but rather either use other pre-written material or just pick NPC’s out of SC that aren’t that important.
Thanks for reading such a huge post :)

It could definitely be a cool showdown at the end, when they confront Jil over the kidnapped (and tortured) Strider. If you decide that you want Jil to betray the Last Laugh if the PCs convince her, I can definitely see this going down as an awesome scene - either her young pupil takes the mentor down for the count or brings her over to the side of "good."

Hiya Guys,
Is there anyone in mind that I could have him kill that wouldn’t completely ruin the story line?
Hmm...
-Kill a strider (fallio or Farrio) as a warning to the Striders (specifically Meerthan)
-Kill one of the big three in the Chisel (perfect around the Demonskar Legacy)... especially after the PC learns how to get to their secret lair.
-Kill Kristoff at the church of pelor (for his suspician of the church of wee jas).
-Kill the cook/informant from flood season for selling information he shouldn't have.
-Kill Sgt. Krewis (after Zenith Trajectory) as a non-corrupt lawman.
-Kill Terseon Skellerang (to erupt a war a with redgorge, framing the Chisel).
-Kill one of the Stormblades parents (for some noble-feud reason, which incidentily starts the stormblades after the assassin, or really piss Todd Vanderboren off, as he is an assassin).
-Kill Todd Vanderboren off as a rival assassin.
-Kill Jenya Urikas or Ruphus in the Church of St. Cuthbert (to weaken the 2nd strongest church in Cauldron).
-Kill the mayor before lords of oblivion (so big V doesn't have to eat him).
-Kill Kazmojen if he survived due to his failure to Ashmantle.
That's all I can think of, that won't be to drastic a campaign alterer. Make sure anyone you kill, has already had their highlight chapter. (i.e. Krewis after the riots in Demonskar)

Hi,
One of the characters in my campaign is an assassin too and also has Jil as a mentor. He killed Ruphus Laro and managed very convincingly to make it look like suicide! (The forgery on the note even fooled Jenya, after they compared it to Ruphus's handwriting in the church ledgers - she rolled poorly)
It's quite easy to work in motivation for this if Ruphus doesn't stay away from the orphanage like the Last Laugh tell him to...
Jenya cast speak with dead and found out it wasn't suicide, so he could have a proper burial etc, but to this day the rest of the group don't know who did it.
The player is now after Calmus Vel (Secrets of the Soul Pillars) after finding out he was involved in the assassination attempt against the PCs. His alter ego is involved in a romantic affair with Cora Lathenmire as well, so I'm thinking the noble feud idea Clint mentioned above sounds good too!
Sorry, not many suggestions but I thought I'd let you know it can definitely work.

Thanks guys thats great. In addition to any other feedback from others. Would anyone be able to record at what point I SHOULDNT kill these people. As you noted below Clint I dont want to have ordered an NPC killed off BEFORE a point in the story line hasnt been achived.
Many thanks for all the feedback guys. Keep it coming. :)

Clint is right on the money with the list of targets. I'll add my 'best between' to the list.
Kill a strider (fallio or Farrio) as a warning to the Striders (specifically Meerthan)
any time after life's bazaar and before lords of oblivion.
Kill one of the big three in the Chisel (perfect around the Demonskar Legacy)... especially after the PC learns how to get to their secret lair.
Nothing to add here. demonscar legacy or secrets of the soul pilars should do. If you're running the invasion of Redgorge, you should time it during the invasion
Kill Kristoff at the church of pelor (for his suspician of the church of wee jas).
after he voiced his suspicion (secrets of the soul pilars), but before the PC's assault the cathedral of Wee Jas in the same chapter
Kill the cook/informant from flood season for selling information he shouldn't have.
Any time during or after flood season. As soon as he gives his information, he's not important to the AP anymore.
Kill Sgt. Krewis (after Zenith Trajectory) as a non-corrupt lawman.
During the cauldron tax riots would be perfect. Any time after that is no problem either.
Kill Terseon Skellerang (to erupt a war a with redgorge, framing the Chisel)
Skellerang isn't crucial to the path. He could die at any moment. The best time would be before, or during the invasion of Redgorge.
Kill one of the Stormblades parents (for some noble-feud reason, which incidentily starts the stormblades after the assassin, or really piss Todd Vanderboren off, as he is an assassin)
None of the nobles are crucial. Make sure you have enough of them left to run 'a meeting of minds'.
Kill Todd Vanderboren off as a rival assassin.
I'm not sure. Todd is in the Cathedral of Wee Jas (awaiting resurection) during the assault on the cathedral. Perhaps before that? maybe the PC is responsible for putting him there? On the other hand, you need to explain how the stormblades were disbanded if Vhalantru didn't order their death. Maybe Vhalantru gives the order to kill all of the stormblades, rather than just Todd?
Kill Jenya Urikas or Ruphus in the Church of St. Cuthbert (to weaken the 2nd strongest church in Cauldron). Right after the assault on the cathedral would be perfect. Jenya can be a very important figure in the AP. Don't kill her off lightly.
Kill the mayor before lords of oblivion (so big V doesn't have to eat him) that's a great one. Any time after the cauldron tax riot and before lords of oblivion.
Kill Kazmojen if he survived due to his failure to Ashmantle. Kazmojen isn't important to the story after Life's Bazaar. you could kill him any time.
some of my own ideas:
Vervil Ashmantle Jil strongly dislikes him anyway. What better way to get rid of him than to let a fellow assasin kill him and then kill the fellow assasin. This one works best around lords of oblivion, but could take place any tgime before that.
big V assuming Jil doesn't know his true nature, of course. Maybe she thinks he's just another noble. As an added twist, he could kill the doppleganger rather than V himself. In that case, any time after Zenith Trajectory should work.
