Sleep and Charm person can help a lot.
The first one takes a whole bunch of critters down, allowing your fellow adventurers to "coup de grâce" them or to focus on others while the first ones are asleep.
The second one can fix a couple of difficult situations (a Diplomacy test gone awry or a door guard that won't be corrupted).
Both works best in combination with Spell Focus (Enchantment), of course.

Magic Missile!
Sorry, couldn't help myself...
I'd probably say Color Spray. It does a lot more than magic missile at low levels and stays effective longer than sleep does. By the time it starts showing its age, you can swap it out for something more effective (like Magic Missle!) The biggest disadvantage is that close range.

Title says it all I think...besides Magic Missile please.
I think Enlarge person can be a real nice spell party wise.
I like Sleep, Burning Hands, Color Spray and Mage Armor.
You can tell my bias a little here... Mage Armor is good because it helps keep the sorcerer alive, the other three all potentially affect multiple targets.

Mage armor gets less good for a sorcerer when he reaches high levels and owns bracers of armor +5 or better. I think the current revision of the rules lets you swap out old spells for new ones, but by then you might want to be swapping for something better than a level 1 spell. Choose wisely.
Color spray and sleep, likewise, are weak at high level, although I've been told that color spray is still pretty good as it stuns (or was it dazes?) creatures with many HD.
You can never go wrong with magic missile.

Hey Antoine;
I'd suggest Benign Transposition from the Miniatures Handbook and the Lesser Orb spells from the Complete Arcane. Transposition can be invaluable in moving not only yourself out of harm's way, but say the cleric to the downed barbarian, or the rogue into a flanking position, or the fighter next the invisible foe that just attacked you from behind; it allows a great amount of adaptation and versatility, which is exactly what all your spells as a sorcerer need to do. Also great are the Lesser Orb spells, which increase in power like magic missile but deal slightly more damage and can cause critical hits.
