Downer Comic

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

Vigilant Seal

Hey, I'm a big fan fo the downer comics, but I can only find them in Dungeon Magazine, and as I'm not actually a DM, I'd rahter just buy Dragon. Is there a web site or something where it's archived? I'd be happy to donate to paypal.

Thanks for the interest. I'm at the stage, after about 75 pages of Downer, that I personally would love a fully bound compendium. Ironically, shlepping those files to Kinko's to make a little DIY book is outrageously expensive (they really burn you with those two-sided color prints!) Certainly, robust interest on the message boards brings a Downer Collection closer to fruition.

I've been promising getting issues al the way back to No. 1 up on my site, but it is tough to make the time. Such is the marginal existance of the journeyman pixel pusher.

Hey, I think your art style is great. It adds a certain integrated dark tone and feel to Dungeon that I really enjoy. I'd definitely buy a Downer compendium, if it wasn't more than $40. I still don't quite understand what Downer's all about since I jumped in at issue 118, but the trip is fun. I loved that little succubus demon illustration you did for the Dirty Little DM Tricks column in #131. Can I buy that as an original print?

Am I the only person who thinks that the world of Downer would make a great video game? Seriously, Hunter's deliberately drab and subdued color schemes for Downer would look awesome cell-shaded.

... Okay, maybe I am. Still, I like Downer (insofar as I can understand it...), and think that Hunter's art gets better every time.

And those little super-deformed monsters he does for the articles? Fun stuff. They always get a chuckle out of me.

I know you don't hear it, Kyle (one way or another...), so just let me say: Keep up the good work. You have perhaps the best dramatic fantasy comic in a D&D mag in years.

I read the first installment of Downer in an issue of Dungeon my son bought, but didn't start getting the magazine regularly until around strip #18 or so--basically about where the online strips pick up. I'm very curious about what happens in between. I'm rather enjoying the occasional metagame commentary by the protagonist, as well as the overall dark story-line, what I understand of it, having missed so many issues. So I'd love it if you posted more early issues online, and I'd be interested in purchasing a reasonably priced collection.
