I was curious to know how many DMs had their parties do very off-the-wall things during the course of this arc, or had them suddenly move in a direction or take a tactic that you very much didn't expect.
For my part, during 3FoE, after a very hard fight in the labyrinth, the party decided to impersonate the Faceless One and his acolytes in an attempt to infiltrate the other complexes.... and in Blackwall.. after killing all but two of the lizardfolk assaulting the keep, they decide to go to the lair, and DEMAND that the prisoners be released.
(That last turned out interesting indeed, what with the conflicting loyalties inside the lizardfolk camp.)
I definitely give them points for thinking outside of the box, and I'm very looking forward to what sort of original tacks they are going to take in future adventures.... perhaps an assassination scheme against Raknian?
Who knows?
What stories do the rest of you have like this?

Thinking outside of the box is great, but there is a problem with their plan and the Lizardmen in that the Lizardmen's connection to things is through the Dragon Ilithane, and it is very very unlikely that they have ever had anything to do with the Faceless one.
I don't have those issues in front of me, but my impression was that the Ebon Triad cult in the mines are pretty much Dupes and don't really know about the Kyuss connection, but believe mistakenly that getting the Age of Worms going will achieve their goal of creating the Overgod.
The other thing is that in the 3FoE, it is pretty clear that the individual cults don't trust each other all that much, so the Faceless one showing up anywhere might be pretty suspicious.
Its not really until Champions Belt that there are NPCs who know that the Cult of Kyuss is really the driving force behind the Ebon Triad.

Oh, perhaps I wasn't clear. The second bit wasn't connected at all to the first. The party got a big head about killing the lizardfolk 'army', and decided to just be...well, up front about the whole thing.
It still ended in fighting.
Also, they carefully took the egg, and wanted to bring it to Allustan for study, being extremely suspicious of it.
Their attempt at impersonating the Faceless One did NOT go very well...(they went for arrogant and imperious, but I'd decided he was intensely polite and soft-spoken)... but due to some very high Bluff checks, they at least managed to avoid getting stomped on (by the Hextorites, in particular). However, after their attempt, the Hextorites assumed something was amiss... and started carefully nosing around to see what was going on.

The first party I ran through the Whispering Cairn were a group of dwarves who called themselves the Adventure Capitalists. They were in it for money, and nothing else. This worked well for the Cairn itself - it's got plenty of loot to plunder. But once they got to the Filge arc, it got a little awkward.
Particularly with the dinner party. They thought it would be a good idea to, after defeating Filge, force him to tell them how to "reprogram" the zombies. So they could sing. Then the party would tour the countryside with the Tiki Zombie Jamboree, as they called it, and rake in the cash.
I politely refused the whole scheme, after mentioning the vast number of pitchfork wielding mobs they would be likely to encounter on their opening show, let alone a continent-wide tour.

Heheh! For maximum effect, they could forego the touring and do what other schemers have done, as reported here in other threads--have them perform nightly at Hotel Whispering Cairn.
No hardcore scheming from my players yet, as we're just getting started, but with two Changelings in the group, and one of them with Changeling Rogue substitution levels and the appropriate nutty ranks in various social skills, along with the player's natural bent towards smooth-talking, I anticipate some fun stuff.
