Artificers in AoW!

Age of Worms Adventure Path

How popular and useful is the Artificers in Age of Worms? With their abiltity to make magic items, it seems to hard for them to do this with litte downtime. Im my group we are at the point in the campaign in Greyhawk after dealing with the Mindflayer underneath the city. Im just wandering will there be enough time to make items in the campaign?

Dark Archive

Hopefully, all DMs are tweaking certain parts of the Adventure Path to allow each and every character shine at least once every game session. If the timetable isn't tweaked to allow Artificers to "do their thing", and a DM wasn't up-front about this from the start, that's something that'd have to be discussed between the player and gamemaster.

Artificers can be handy in just about any party, creating helpful scrolls and such to deal with unexpected situations. See Edymnion's 2.0 Artificer guide in the "Characters" section of WotC's Eberron forums for some ideas.

Scarab Sages

There is another option to give artificers a chance to shine throughout, at least a little bit. I've found that my artificer players really love Forge Points, despite there is no way to replenish them. Well, I refer to them as Forge Points, it really just the craft point system from unearthed arcana. And artificers get an absolute boatload of those points. In addition to the usual points everybody gets at each level, artificers get those bonus crafting feats at most of their levels. I know it gets ridiculous, but the gold still has to come from somewhere. Sorry if I'm rambling, it's late

The warforged paladin in my campaign has an artificier as his cohort. She is an excellent support character.

I hate downtime. We use craft points and they work great.

As I understand it, the timeline between most of the adventures can be rather fluid. You can provide for the time between advenbtures easily enough.

Otherwise, look into the craft points alternative from Unearthed Arcana, as mentioned.

With either of those in effect, then the artificer will be as useful and popular as any other campaign.

This is a good point. The adventures in AoW are connected in a way that can leave a lot of time in-between for PC to make their own magical items.

...By the way, can ask you:

1) how about using artificers in Greyhawk? It is a world rich in magic, after all.

2) how about staking the bonuses of the Magical artisan feat from FR and the Legendary artisan (& Co.) feat from Eberron? This would sound -50% exp, gold and time of construction.

Thank you guys!

Well, I don't see why one couldn't use an Artificer in any campaign setting.

Not sure I'd allow the bonuses from the various artisan feats from the ECS and the Magical Artisan feat to stack, even moreso considering they are two seperate campaign worlds, so you should either use one set or the other. If you did, however, allow them to mix, and to stack, it would be wise to require prerequisites. L:ike perhaps one can only take Magical Artisan after having taken all 3 of the other feats.

Or even better, make Magical Artisan available only at epic levels if you have the other artisan feats in the campaign world.
