My group was up in arms (no pun intended) about the lack of magic weapons in the AP. After a near TPK (saved only by some generous interpretation of the rules by yours truly) at the hands of the Ebon Aspect, they pointed out that the AP pits them against a creature with DR 5/magic (as well as some respectable armor classes along the way) and the group has a +1 short sword between them. Has anybody else had problems with this?

Kullen had a +1 Greataxe - not sure if your group took him out, or used diplomacy with him. My group decided to kill him and his gang.

That's what *Magic Weapon* spell is for.
Yep.
I thought also that some shop in town even sold "oil of magic weapon".
And 5/magic is not so much. Sneak attacks and 2-h weapons can get through it (albeit weakened). And spells work at their full efficiency (just stay clear of cold and fire).

We overcame the DR with Magic Weapon spells, combat magic and brute strength, but a couple of the characters are going to take magic item creation feats (one craft arms and armor and the other wonderous items) so we can get hold of any equipment we really desire without much of a problem. Also, looking at the AP outline, soon we will be in Greyhawk City herself and should be able to buy just about anything needed.

Yes, my party never had the opportunity to buy stuff until Champions games. Now since then, they have been buying and equipping themselves very well, but in the last 2 installments, they hhave really been whining about the DR of monsters, as they have not equipped themselves to handle that. Plus, for some reason, the girl playing the Cleric, has refused to take Align Weapon on several occasions, even after fighting creatures that were 10/good. We started Spire of Long Shadows last night, and boy, they had their butts kicked in the first 2 encounters. Unfortunatley, we are on a 2 week break, while one couple goes to Disney World. I can't wait to play again.

They got a little gunshy as far as spells go when the fighter/mage's first spell (lightning bolt) failed to get through the Aspect's spell resistance and healed it. I can't believe I forgot about "Magic Weapon", if for no other reason than to mock them when they started complaining.

...Has anybody else had problems with this?
Yes.
I'm leaving magic weapons be for now, but they seem to be few and far between up through Blackwall Keep. As a result, I'm going to give my players free reign (within the limits of their available money) to acquire magic when they get to Greyhawk -- err, I mean the Free City. I'll likely let them get anything they can afford out of the DMG; they'll probably focus on weapons.
Just my two coppers,
Jack
