Sequels

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

Since I was stuck at my parents house over the holidays with little to do, I brought many issues of Dungeon with me to review and re-read (I got almost all of the issues since 100 with me). I really like the magazine's trend of interlinked adventures, and personally for me, of the three types of interlinked adventures (sequels, three part campaign arcs, and adventure paths), I really like sequels the best. "Raiders of the Black Ice" and "The Clockwork Fortress," or "Death of Lashmire" and "Seekers of the Silver Forge," are great examples. They are very distinct from one another, but also share elements that can be easily interwoven into a campaign. I was wondering if there were any more sequels on the horizon?

Brendan and I are working on "Lightning Curse" a sequel to "Obsidian Eye" (Issue #120). We haven't given the manuscript to Erik and the J's yet though (Age of Worms and some other manuscripts got in the way), and from what I hear the high level slots are spoken for until faaar into the next decade (okay, not that long, but close to). LC is a high level adventure, so who knows when, if ever, it will see print. Actually we proposed LC first, but James let us write a prequel to show off Sandstorm - hence "Obsidian Eye." "Lightning Curse" is pretty cool though, so I hope we see it in Dungeon's hallowed pages someday.

I've love to see a sequel to The Styes. But it does not have to be an actual sequel; it could just be another adventure set in the Styes. Either way, I'd be very happy!

Don't forget Wil Upchurch's linked adventures "Forest of Blood" and the recent adventure involving the Cult of Malar (don't remember the name right now..)

"The Twisted Run", an ironic name if ever there was one, considering the titular site is where the party spends less than 5% of the adventure.

As for Lightning Curse... I was looking forward to that. But, with AoW moving into the high level slot for what I can only assume is four (six?) issues, that's almost a half-year there. Without knowing what's going on behind the scenes, I can only assume that high levels are spoken for at least a year into the future. Which is a shame. A pity, really- Obsidian Eye was a top-notch adventure, akin (perhaps even superior) to Death of Lashimire and Raiders of the Black Ice.

But que serra, serra. I haven't really found the high level adventures to be to my taste anyway. We shall see...
