I had a PC attempt to grapple the Ebon Aspect last night and looked at its grapple check modifier of +22 and said huh? After adding its BAB of +10, Strength modifier of +5, and size modifier of +4 (being large) I only came up with +19.
Does this thing have a racial bonus or something that I am missing or a bonus for multiple arms?

Aren't there grapple modifiers for additional limbs. The Ebon Aspect has more than two limbs (if I'm remembering correctly). Even if the additional limbs don't have hands (once again if I'm remembering correctly), they would give some kind of modifier to grapple. I'm impressed that someone wanted to get that close to that thing. :)

There's no official rule on that (that I'm aware of), at least not in the core books (I recall something from Sword and Fist). At any rate, if there is a +3 bonus on grapple checks for having three extra hands, an explanation should have been included in the stat block.
The grapple check bonus for the ebon aspect would appear to be incorrect; there is no phantom +3 bonus to its grapple check.
That explains the result from DMGenie... The Kenku's should have a movement of 20' also, BTW (Those sunrods they have knock them over their encumbrence....)
I wish I had seen this thread before running the encounter. I had a PC grapple with it (via the Qual's Feather Token Whip). I don't think the end result was within +3 anyway, though.
I just thought of something pretty evil. What if the Ebon Aspect decided to toss characters into the pool. Causing them to take Dexterity damage, or what if it grabbed one character and jumped into the pool and went under water until the charater died?
That Grapple check just got a lot scarier >:)
I don't think I could bring myself to do that to my characters... but the look on the characters face would be priceless - if your a rat bastard DM.
