My boys are about to meet the lurking strangler in the WC. Assuming it can Sleep one of them, do you think the strangle attack would wake the PC up?
Just trying to be fair. The rules make it sound like it would be quick, so they may not have a chance.

I'd rule that yes, it would wake them, since being attacked will wake up anyone from the effects of a Sleep spell. By then, however, the strangler's in place and choking them. They'd have to roll opposed grapple checks against it to escape before it finished strangling them to death.
I concur; strangling is an attack...which would certainly wake anyone up from sleeping - even magical sleep.
The character will already be in a poor position from waking up grappled and being choked, if not pinned outright.

That grapple of -10 for the Strangler isn't going to be too tough, but they do only get one chance at it.
A few blown Will saves prior to this, and it could get interesting...
Played it last night. With a grapple of -10, this thing has no chance of actually strangling someone. It was fun messing with the players until it showed itself, but then it was over quickly.

I don't know...the whole point of the monster is the ability to strangle someone...I wouldn't allow a pc to wake up once it starts strangling them without an unusual reason (my ninja player had the ki ability, thats what woke him up)...that, or I'd ignore the -10 for the target of the strangle attack, since the monster would have really gotten a difficult hold while the victim was sleeping.....if someone wrapped a rope around your throat two or three times and cynched it tight, you'd have a great deal of trouble getting your fingers in the gap...
