Forgotten Realms question - So if Bane is alive ?

Age of Worms Adventure Path

In the Forgottean Realms version the plan is to merge remaining power of the dead gods, Bhaal, Myrkul and Bane ?

But Bane is back from the dead so to speak.

How does this affect Jergal's plan now ?

It doesn't effect it in any way at all. Jergal's plan is to re-establish himself as an overgod by using the 3 others. Jergal once held that position himself until he grew bored with it and gave it up (See the Knucklebones side bar in the 2nd Edition Book "Faiths and Avatars")

Jergal doesn't care if Bane is alive or not... he just wants the power of the 3 gods to become one extremely powerful overgod and subvert Ao's rule that way.

In the end, it doesn't matter if any of the 3 are alive or dead.

There can be no peace in the Realms while Bane lives!

Indeed, in the Greyhawk version of the cult, they are trying to fuse three living gods, so a god living or dead doesn't seem to matter. The point in the Forgotten Realms version is that these are the gods that Jergal invested his portfolios in, thus it makes sense that if he had a grand plan, it would have to do with these three.

Its also interesting to note that the three sub cults could have very different views and interesting tension between them. The Banites most likely would assume that since Bane is alive and the others are not, he would be the dominant personality, more disposed toward "his" branch of the cult, and would inherit Death and Murder on top of Tyranny and Fear.

The worshippers of Bhaal might be desperate cast offs that say the Bhaalspawn that they back bite the dust, and feel that they were "so close" and that this might be their only chance to be victorious again. In fact, one of the cultists might beleive themselves to be a Bhaalspawn, and that perhaps they will inherit the full power not just of Bhaal, but of the overgod as well.

The Myrkul cultists are likely to be the most pragmatic, more likely seeing the new overgod as indeed a new god, but one closer to "their" god of death, the evil, long term schemeing Myrkul, rather than the psychotic Cyric or the maddeningly fair and unambitious Kelemvor. They are likely in it to honor thier fallen god and to welcome the newcomer, and to get in on the ground floor.
