legacy item??

Age of Worms Adventure Path

Just got the weapons of legacy book, is it possible that Zosiels Circlet from whispering cairn could be such an item? Its been hinted at that it will have more powers/abilities as the Ap unfolds.

Any thoughts on this?

I picked up the Legacy book last week myself. I doubt the circlet is a legacy item, mainly because I think they would've had a campaign seed about it, but I could be wrong.

I'll be starting the AoW with my group in August and I'm thinking about including a legacy weapon. Either an air-themed chaotic outsider bane weapon to be found in the Wispering Cairn or a weapon that could defeat the overgod that the faceless one is trying to destroy.

I hope it is because I've been hinting to my players that it is one.

At this point, the circlet is not a legacy item, simply because no one at Paizo's had a chance to look through Weapons of Legacy yet. This doesn't mean that we won't make it a legacy item once we detail it, but at this point there's no plans to do so.

I certainly love the idea of magic items/weapons that evolve as your character improves. I wrote the section on bonded weapons in the DMG II as a way to encourage items like this, and I'm really looking forward to checking out Weapons of Legacy. If you wanted to include a legacy weapon in the Adventure Path, I'd recomend that you do one that's more focused on fighting undead than air elementals though... or maybe dragons...

That's good to know. I had been working on a history for a weapon (Apostasy’s Edge) wielded by a Hextorian Knight who had once been a member of the Ebon Triad, realized they were mad, and then dedicated himself to eradicating the cult. I was thinking of having the weapon be found in the Faceless One's lab, where he'd been trying to neutralize its powers.

The nice thing about Weapons of Legacy is that it is really easy to leave yourself some plot hooks open to expand on them later - or not. You can retcon the whole thing as you need to and the player's are never the wiser.

I typically hint at histories and great purposes with most of my magic items anyways, in the sense that there are few "just a +1 sword" that I give out. I tend to hint at a history and purpose to even minor magic items as I have always believed that makes the treasure more special. (I also tend to make magic more rare than per the DMG)

For those who allow their PCs to create magic items per the Core rules or who treat magic items as commodoties to be purchased - this may not work all that well with your campaign style.

Nice to see that the future appears more directed to undead and dragons rather than elementals. :)

I'm glad to see that other folks are planning on adding weapons/items of legacy to their AoW campaigns, too. I mentioned in another thread that those of us running the game in the Forgotten Realms got a little help in doing this from Eric Boyd when he killed off the entire Daggerford ducal line.

The 2e supplement about Daggerford mentioned that the Lady Bronwyn carried a +3 dagger that was rumored to have been the same dagger used to drive off a band of lizardfolk hundreds of years ago, giving Daggerford its name. It seems like the kind of legendary event that would lead to the creation of an item of legacy, and the death of Lady Bronwyn presents an outstanding opportunity to put that item into the hands of the players.

I had originally planned on focusing the dagger's powers on lizardfolk, but based on James' comments above, I think I'll broaden it to powers that could have been used to defend Daggerford, making it more useful throughout the campaign, rather than just during one episode.

I think it would be awsome if Weapons Of Legacy was used in AOTW. I gave my players a little taster of the stuff and they went nuts! (That Bow of The Black Archer got the elf archer pumped!) Maybe as you get higher the circlet gives you special bonuses against undead, or if you keep it as +2 wisdom base it eventually grats extra spell slots or spells
