Nowhere in the writer's guidelines does it say that you absolutely *HAVE* to use the style sheets for your adventure submissions...so I'm wondering do you have to? I have no problem using them, but there's alot of different styles in there and some of them are confusing...for instance:
1. What style is used for the different sections, like 'Adventure Background' and 'Character Hooks'? Is it the 3.0 header? The 2.0 subhead? What?
2. What style do you use for the main body? Is it supposed to be the '1.0 core body' or 'body text'?
3. For the read-aloud text, what style is used for that? Or should we use a normal style and provide shading ourselves?
4. I see where the sidebar text is, but then there is a couple sidebar styles that are colored blue...what are those for?
Any help would be appreciated, or if someone has a walk-thru or sample file using the styles would be great! Thanks in advance.

You don't have to worry about getting everything exactly right when you use the style sheets. They are mainly there to keep people from doing really bizarre things with their submissions (like putting all the sidebars in frames for example). I will be happy to answer your questions, however.
1. What style is used for the different sections, like 'Adventure Background' and 'Character Hooks'? Is it the 3.0 header? The 2.0 subhead? What?
You should use the "H2 Body" header for all those titles.
2. What style do you use for the main body? Is it supposed to be the '1.0 core body' or 'body text'?
"Body Text"
3. For the read-aloud text, what style is used for that? Or should we use a normal style and provide shading ourselves?
There should be a "box text" style you can use for that. If there isn't, just leave it as body text and put lines above and below it. Please don't manually shade it.
4. I see where the sidebar text is, but then there is a couple sidebar styles that are colored blue...what are those for?
I am not sure which ones you are talking about. Use the "H1 Sidebar" for the sidebar titles, and the sidebar text for the sidebar text (naturally).
Any help would be appreciated, or if someone has a walk-thru or sample file using the styles would be great! Thanks in advance.
I'll see what I can do regarding getting a sample of the style sheets posted.

I understand a lot better now, thanks...a sample would still be helpful for me, and I imagine a few others...thanks again!

I thought the writer's guidelines were available for download or online perusal, but I can't seem to find them. And the style sheets. I don't think I've ever come across those. Can someone post a link to help me out?
There are links to both of them on the main Dungeon page here.
And the direct links to the guidelines and style sheets.

I tried to view the style sheet doc and it came up as blank.
This was most likely because I don't have MS Word and opened it in a basic text app. How is one meant to know what the styles are without being able to see them? I ain't about to spend $550 on MS Office just to view a stylesheet. I don't want that buggy crap on my Mac anyway. It's sensitive about these things :D

The style sheets probably are blank, since it's not the text that is passed along; it is the styles that are embedded in the document. But if you don't have Word, I doubt they would be any use to you.
If that's the case, don't worry about it. Rich text format is fine for submissions.

Not yet, it’s a little tricky to find a styled document that we can release online as a word doc. so we don't have to put something new together A portion of the Age of Worms overload (when it's finished) might work. I will check.
