Dragon #333

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Hey, is the cover of Dragon #333 a secret? The image has been unavailable for roughly a week. I don't know about the rest of you, but I find my anticipation grows a bit when I can take a sneak peak at the cover of the upcoming issue. . .what's the deal?

Should we look forward to any subtle Tharizdun references?

It would not be outside the realm of possibility. ;)

I have always been fascinated with the story of Fraz-Urbluu and his imprisonment and eventual release ever since I saw his entry and picture in Monster Manual II way, way back in the day. I believe it was a mage and a cleric who were tricked into releasing this demon from imprisonment. It will be neat to read more details on this in Jacob's article.

What is the scoop on these "Knowstones" I'm hearing about. I'm still waiting on a delivery of my copy.

Knowstones are a slotless magical item that allows a sorcerer to know more spells, but does not increase the number of spells cast per day.

Actually, it works for anyone who casts spontaneously, so it can also benefit bards and some "non-core classes".

The item has a base cost of spell level squared x 1000 gp.

I don't think I like it for my games, since I think the low level spells are too cheap, but high level spells are very expensive.

I might allow them in my games as written, but instead of wondrous items, I would require a special "craft knowstone" feat. I might also only allow spontaneous casters to use it. The way it is written a wizard can make any spell he can cast available to a sorcerer via the craft wondrous item feat. I just don't think it is a good idea.

Oh - and they made a slight mistake when writing the article. They put in parenthesis (0-level costs 500) after talking about the time to create it, instead of after the cost-per-level....
