Hey guys, Long time reader, just signed up it the hope to get some e-love. Nah seriously, ive been searching the continents looking for detailed information on the cities in Greyhawk, the main ones anyway, and ive pretty much come up with scratch. Im just curious as to know why this hasnt been done, and if it has, why is it so hard to find it?I understand that they were done a while ago, and if these worlds are still supported, to some extent, so should the books, Im more then willing to pay for these books(if they exist) im sure like many people here, but if its impossible to get then what am i meant to do? I've heard of an old adnd module called 'fate of istus' and that has some information on 10 cities or so i think, but its nowhere to be found, i live in Sydney and only 3 and 3.5 ed books are in any of the shops i look in, i understand that this isnt a priority for many people but i need to get as much information on the cities as i can, so as to not later contradict myself with the geography or structure of these places which i have done so many times before. Ive asked everywhere but noone seems to know anything about it? If anyone knows anything about these books (fate of istus) etc, is it possible that anyone knows what they all are, is an inventory out of the question? I cant find the names of any of these anywhere and its frustrating me to no end, please someone help!!!!!!!1111oneone, feel free to flame me on this one, maby ive just looked in the wrong places for 4 months? Theres goto be some solid information somewhere? Thanks guys, ill try to keep things posted if anybody else is interested, thanks for your time.

Their are tons of books out their on Greyhawk. Just check amazon or something. I did a quick serch on their befor replying and found they had lots of stuff. Their is a Gazetteer and lots of adventures oh and even a box set. Also you can make up your own cities to put into Greyhawk as long as your concistant with them its ok to make your own Greyhawk campain.

Fate of Istus is still available. There are two copies on ebay as we speak, and the full text is available as a PDF product from rpgnow.com - as for detailed cities... the two most detailed are the city of greyhawk itself (which had a boxed set dedicated to it, I believe) and Istivin - which is actually detailed for 3.5e in our own Dungeon magazine a few issues back as a backdrop article (with an accompanying 3 part adventure over the course of several issues). Cauldron (from the last adventure path) also has a Greyhawk location, so you could use it as well.
My suggestion, personally, is to simply choose small towns and cities and detail them yourself. I prefer this approach in almost every campaign world, except for the truly large cities (I wouldn't want to detail Calimport in FR for example). Unless you're running an urban campaign, having detailed cities isn't really necessary. A rudimentary map will usually do, with important locations marked and a proper 3.5e city stat block. Fate of Istus (which was a bridge between 1e and 2e for Greyhawk, unless I am remembering incorrectly) does provide maps for several greyhawk cities, though not with tremendous detail.
As for questions on Greyhawk... Dungeon's resident Editor-in-chief is one of the preeminent authorities on the subject, and he might have some other suggestions for you.

From what I understand, Fate of Istus is a pretty horrid resource and not worth the money.
I've always stood by Marklands, Iuz the Evil, From the Ashes and Ivid the Undying, which detail a good 60-70% of the Flanaess and her cities.
There are other resources as well, including fan created material, some of which is very good. In particular, there are some pieces on Verbobonc, Hardby, Greyhawk City and a couple of others that can be found for free, online, in the Oerth Journals.
Recently, Dungeon or Dragon also published something on Hardby, although I haven't seen it myself, people have raved about it. You might also be able to get some back issues of either magazine that have the Living Greyhawk Journals in them, some of which had details on other cities around the Flanaess.
As for hard copies of Marklands, Iuz the Evil, From the Ashes and Ivid the Undying, good luck. I've looked and only ever found exhorbitantly priced offerings on ebay or The Hit Pointe and Noble Knight. From the Ashes regularly fetches up to $100 US.
I would KILL for a re-printing of these. Oh, and Ivid was never published but can be found online for free from WotC's website, although I recommend looking for the edited PDF version of it which is much easier to navigate, read and print, but isn't on the WotC site.
Speaking of PDF's, that's probably your best bet when it comes to Greyhawk material. There are legal ones from RPG Now, but the quality is atrocious. Sad to say, but you're better off getting the technically illegal versions, if you can find them. They ARE OOP after all.

Psyicman, i have the gazetteer , but the information is somewhat limited , once i heard about books out there that detailed everything about the main cities (which my pcs are interested in)geography, flora, fauna , weather patterns etc, you could probably appreciate how wet my mouth got, i wanted to make sure i gave them the correct information , i wouldnt be happy with myself as a dm, later finding out that the market was here etc, however trivial , i know it seems silly , but i just want to get everything i can , you obviously know where to find these books (ebay) etc, the advice is appreciated , i was just checking here to see if these really did exist , not knowing where else to turn , you get me ?

hey, 15+1+umm..nah just 16? - it seems hard to find good, consistent information for many of the places and i feel that if i'm going to make my own cities and towns, why not just make my own world. it's a shame, i already have put a lot of time and effort into trying to get the information to give my players a unique experience in the greyhawwk world, and the more me and my players explore the world, the less detail we find. sure, you gotta detail certain aspects, and i enjoy that- to an extent. but when i have to make up details behind anonymously named cities with very few details, what's the point of playing in a published campaign world??? i can only tell you what i have learned;- the stuff that's already been posted, i got my hands on fate of istus and that atleast had more value than the 3E gazetteer. so i got to run what i hoped was a reasonably "canon" adventure in jurnre. now my P.C.s are heading for niole dra...****** if i know where i can get anything more then a city name, ruler and population for that one ;) does anyone know where i can get some info on Niole Dra? what does the city look like? what sort of architecture? (btw, can anybody give me a reference to suel architecture other then "alien"?). does any map of that city exist? what about gradsul? or can i assume that there has never been anything published on a good percent of the cities and just detail them myself...and then flick through dragon the next week and find that my city was canon incorrect?
