Query about queries (and word counts)

I thought I'd post this here in case other people wanted to know the same thing. When you ask for the word count in the header of a submission, do you want us to include the title?

Just a small thing, but I was wondering. :-)

Another questtion to add to Amber's

When we give our word count do you prefer an exact word count or do you prefer the old magazine standby of rounding to the nearest hundred (nearest 50 if less then 1000 words)?

Hey there all,

You should include a working title for the article as well as an exact word count.

since we are going with exact word count... how about which words to count... do we count the title in the word count? do you want us to include everything we wrote... including the words that will not be printed such as the stuff in red (where we show our work etc. and have it in red so that the editor can take it out later). or do you just want us to count the words that will be printed?

It really doesn't matter one way or the other. At best we're talking about four or five words. Nothing's going to get rejected based on coming in five words over the count.

Five Over Is OK?

That's great news.

I wonder if that will work the next time I get pulled over?

"Sorry Mr. State Trooper. But I was only five over the speed limit. The editor at Dragon said it as A-OK."

Somehow, I think not.

funny around here you have to have a policeman who is having a real bad day or behind on thier qoatas to get pulled over for going 5 over the speed limit...

Just thought I'd add my question into this thread;
If you have completely written the article is it ok to add the article as an attachment to your query. Obviously you don't have to actually read the attachment if you don't want to, but it would be there if you decided you wanted to examine the article in question in more depth.

That's generally a bad idea. If you already have the article written, just hold onto it until (I hate to say "if") the editor asks for it.

Do you accept submissions from outside the US, like, for example, from Germany?

Sorry, but are you Amber E. Scott, responsible for the Ecology-article on Will-O-Wisps?

If so, i'd like to let you know, that it is one of the absolut best ecology-articles i've read in years.
