Item tokens?!

Liberty's Edge

Hi there!
You once had those great monster tokens in some of the issues. They were great (still are ;)

I have a question concerning tokens:
I use item tokens a lot. Especially for magic items. This are little cards with a picture of the item. As soon as the item is identified, the player writes the properties of it down on the back of the card.
I do this as well with potions, weapons, armor, misc. itmes etc...
A good side-effect of this is that we don't longer have items doubled (which happened quite often before, especialls with healing potions.).
I once even had a player who wouldn't give away his +1longsword for a +2longsword, because he thought the +1sword looked cooler and better fit his character... that was great!

So now, could you think about the idea of putting Item-Tokens into the mag like you once did with the Monster-Tokens? This would be great. Maybe other guys here like the idea...

I have always loved miniatures in the game, and subsequently, I was a big fan of the tokens, as they allowed me to represent large amounts of the same monster without having to lug to games 30 pounds of lead. If the "powers that be" want to bring those back that would be great!

That said I really love the miniatures line. I don't play the miniatures game, but I use the mini's all the time in my campaign. As a father who works full time, I don't have time to buy & paint lead figures anymore - even though I enjoyed the painting as much as playing with them. So keep bringing on the mini's too!! (And I sincerely hope that the miniatures line being available is not the reason that the tokens stopped being included...)

And the idea of item cards - that's great - although it might be difficult when trying to conceal the properties of a magic item! Unless they were "Sword with Green Hilt" and such so the DM gets the item key and the players get the general description. Either way I like it!

While we're at it - Large fold out maps with city streets, large arena-like settings (like the gladiator one) and large dungeon maps are/would be great. I like using them in my games and when I'm able to use them it saves tons of drawing-on-the-battle-mat time!
All-in-all any "useable" inserts are greatly appreciated!

I love using the plastic D&D miniatures, but as you said, they can be tough to carry around and organize. I still use the Dungeon Mag monster tokens, and LOVE the idea of item tokens. I would also find furniture items (doors, chests, torches, braziers, windows, arrow slits, etc.) useful. One page of furniture items, another of weapons, as inserts or maybe as a downloadable web product for a couple bucks - I'd go for it.

I'm currently using black and white "chits" from an old BattleSystem box set. Anything to make the battle mat more realistic would be a great help.

Hi Erik!

Just want to ask if there is a slight chance for those item-tokens, or furniture-tokens to appear in Dungeon one day - or as a download...?
If you just post a YES or NO here it would help to either get me very lucky or just stop hoping for them... ;)
Anyway - just keep up the great work on the magazine!!!

I second this.

Big vote from me for furniture tokins!

Please bring the tokens back, they were the best thing since sliced bread. I'd love to see furniture, doors, treasure piles etc.
