My players djinni passed the Test of the Smoking Eye

Shackled City Adventure Path

Of course i'm letting it stand, and i have some plans for repercussions, i was just wondering if any other DMs have dealt with PCs gaining this template, and the resulting hillarity of course.

How's this for funny? The only PC to gain the template in my campaign was the monk that ended up taking Vow of Poverty. Since Occipitus is not really a posession, I ruled that she could keep the template and still gain the benefits of the template. However, since she did not gain the full benefits (she's not a caster), I eliminated the level adjustment for the template. (she also lost a few other traits to level everything out)

I also don't see how its a funny event. Well the neutral good ranger (whose PC is only about 17) gained this template by trying to give it to his friend. Karaphon (sic) was about to toss the other PCs into the geyser and so he simply jumped in himself to give the power to the PC holding the lantern. The party was really surprised when nothing happened and it seemed he commited sucide for no good reason. I ruled several rounds later he reappeared with the template.

The person with the Smoking Eye is in the end the single most important character in the Adventure Path. Read the last few modules and you will understand why it is a huge responsibility and burden.

I wasn't implying it had to be humurous, i was just hoping for stories/ideas from people who had done so. I only tend to skim the later adventures and focus on the imediate ones. The monk sounds cool and i would be curious as to how his nature would influence the plane. He took a vow of poverty so i would probably cause valuables to disapate/change.

I definately would have ruled the same way as you did with the ranger. Tell me more of how this influences events.

As you might have guessed i am causing the PC's nature to influence the plane, the geyzer is elemental air at "sand blasting" velocity. Also the cysts are releasing thier captives as they turn to air. An army of the abyss is waiting for something to happen in the Occipitus region. I'm running this this weekend and will post more here. Your comments are welcome.

I will review the last two adventures before running this, do you think it will make a difference?

Well for the ranger (Ragnar) I've been having the layer change VERY slowly. For example, he is from a large area of grasslands back on the prime and over the course of like five levels a single blade of black grass has slowly been growing out of the fleshy soil. Its not much, its still evil grass (lolz) but its a minor change from what the plane use to be. I already know that even at level 20 (when it becomes possible for a player to actually conciously change the plane in some way) any significant change to Occipitus will take centuries. However, on Occipitus Ragnar does not age and cannot die of disease and such and so he may eventually have the time to change the plane.

At lower levels I would suggest not such much that the PC changes the layer, but more that the layer changes him in some ways. For example, Ragnar constantly when he sleeps has dreams of a towering structure made of skulls rising from a dank stormy marsh and constantly he becomes overwhelmed by emotions that are not his own...(read the last three modules to see if you can figure out what I'm foreshadowing)

Just a small tidbit. I fell into this hole myself (a character of mine was also named Ragnar)... Ragnar is a female name... and is from Norway

Actually it IS a male name. Not sure if it's Norwegian, but it's definately Nordic, or more precisely an old viking name. It's not THAT common here in Sweden anymore, but it is still used at least in Norway and Sweden, and maybe Denmark as well.

Ragnar is most definitely a male name. We checked on this a long time ago.

Just my two cents:

Anyone ever noticed that Ragnara is the name of the female Maenad Psychic Warrior that Wizards uses for an iconic character? So I would definately agree that Ragnar is a male name.

OK, i just read through the last few instalments and i'm going to re-think the way i'm running it. The hardest part is going to convince them to leave Occ willingly.
