Most RPG people know that Wizards of the Coast offer a pretty good rule support service, whether you agree or disagree with their answers. With that said, I recently e-mailed WotC a question concerning Dragon Issue #310, they responded by stating that I needed to contact Paizo publishing with any rule or gaming issue found within a Paizo product. Although I think it questions the true meaning of Paizo's 100% official D&D content statement. Anyway, I sent an e-mail to Dragon magazine concerning general questions with content or material. I also posted a message right here on this very board without so much as a single response from anyone. I'm a little bothered by the fact that I spend an equal amount of money on Dragon magazine as I do on D&D 3.5 sourcebooks and yet I cannot get a Paizo employee to answer a rule support question.
Once again I will repost the questions, both of which have good merit:
My two questions are in regard to the Targetteer's "Vital Aim" ability on page 39 of Dragon #310. Can a longbow be used with the "Vital Aim" ability to grant a dexterity bonus to damage? If so, can the damage bonus granted by a mighty longbow be used with "Vital Aim" ability?
Sorry for the rant, but it is imperative that gamers get the answers they need. Sometimes RPG's fall apart over rule issues and then those people will no longer have a reason to buy Dragon magazine.
Thanks,
Shawn.

Hey there Shawn,
Not sure how this one slipped through the cracks, but here is your answer. Vital aim allows you to substitute your Dex bonus for your Str bonus with ranged weapons. For this to work, the ranged weapon needs to allow you to add your Str bonus to the damage. So, in this case, you would need a mighty composite longbow to gain any damage bonus, and you would still be limted by the bow's maximum Str rating. Oridnary longbows would give you no damage bonus through this ability.

I got two questions to see if someone out there knows the answere...
#1 I am an elemental savant (Air) so all of my spells with an element type are automaticly lightning... CAN i use a metamagic feat to turn my lightning spells into something else...
Ex: I want to cast fireball.. so since i am an E.S. it becomes lightning ball.. can i override my elemental savant ability with the metamagic feat "Elemental Substitution (Fire)"?
#2 I am an invisible blade... if i take a full attack action while invisible and first attack someone on my right.. then with my second attack attack someone on my left (who is flanked)do i get sneak attack on both targets?

Purely my opinion... I would rule no. Once you become an elemental savant, Energy Substitution to another form of energy fails to work for you.

Yes, both are sneak attacks. Note that you don't need to be an invisible blade for this; a rogue in the same setup could also get sneak attacks on both attacks.
The first attack gains sneak attack because you are invisible, and therefore have concealment against your foe.
The second attack gains sneak attack because you are flanking the target.
Note that there are defenses against both that could, in specific circumstance, make it so you wouldn't get sneak attack. In the first, if the target could see invisible things, you wouldn't get your sneak. In the second, if the target can't be flanked (such as somebody with Improved Uncanny Dodge), then no sneak for you.
