I have been wondering, what the heroes can do to stop an invasion of Redgorge, while they are away to the plane of Occipitus...
"Sending" is the solution. Jenya Urekas has given the group a Scroll of Sending to inform her of the fate of Alek Tercival, when they find him. That way they can inform her that her childhood friend has died and that it is on her to stop the eager Captain Skellerang of the City Watch...

Characters with the Leadership feat and a private army can send their dudes to hold off the invasion until the PCs get back.
A little Planar Binding/Ally can get you some low-level angels to teleport in as well.

In my campaign, the party managed (barely) to convince kauphon(?)
to teleport the party to redgorge in time to delay the invasion and to inform jenya that alec had died. skellerang agreed to pull back his forces if maavu will dropped the sucession matter. afterwards, the party went with kauphon to occiptus as agreed.

My first group teleported to a large city and then bought a scroll of sending. They also bulked up on some magic weapons.
Knife Fighter: "We're going where??? I need a holy dagger."
The second group contacted Nidrama, and she went to Redgorge to inform the Foreman of the Chisel.
In both cases, the Chisel simply paid a rather large bribe... um, contribution... to the city, and Vhalantru called off the attack on Redgorge.
I suppose if the party simply forgets to do anything, the Chisel could come to a financial agreement on their own.
