The staple of the old scifi, some artefact remnant of a spacefaring civilization, but what will ours look like?

1. A three dee printed Borg cube built of a maze of three dee printed pipes set adrift in interstellar space like an abandoned engine part.

2. a planet sized three dee printed barbie doll bent backwards around the moon with a single arm pointing at the earth

The Exchange

Sony has basically surrendered to hacker terrorism by never ever releasing the interview and
those theaters who were going to show team america world police in reprisal just had it pulled by paramount

Are these the dominos for the collapse of American film? Was the red dawn remake a prediction?

I'd suggest australia bashing but we have this global alliance with countries like new Zealand, Canada, Britain, Jamaica, India, Pakistan and a lot of others called the commonwealth and at least three members have nukes...so we have you surrounded and outnumbered.

The Exchange

imagine assembling a one use airplane at the airport so the flight crew could fly from new york to Los Angeles only to be abandoned once used.

Now imagine you and every other tax payer had to buy a ticket in the flight just so a few people could fly.

Thats the unsustainable space version.

You may contribute an artefact drawn from tv or film.

so they did stuff three hundred thousand years before humans?

So has anyone found a nuclear waste dump?

The Exchange

Transformers 4 (5/10) struggles to be a movie about a hurricane where humans struggle to survive in the shadow of a destructive storm (in this case giant robots). the human villains are redemable unless they are government officials.

Snowpiercer (6/10) is a humanity's worst in a box movie as the cannibals in last class at the back of the train murder their way forward only to find they are all screwed.

Dawn of planet of the apes (7/10) is a story about two nice people trying to save a bunch of savages who hate the idea of getting along and being equal. It doesnt go further than 'theyre animals!' in exploring the ability of humans to adapt to change.

Bechel test: None of these involve women having conversation with women about something other than a man.

The Exchange

The films listed below meet the following conditions:

  • It has to have at least two women in it,
  • who talk to each other,
  • about something besides a man.

If you see one, list it here.

Hold your children to you.
Tell them: It was all about the constitution.
Whisper gently: The dream is dead.
Tell them: The bill of rights is burning.
Cry: The dream is dead.

seven tropes we apparently need to stop using in our world building

Snooty, Tree-hugging, Tolkien Elves...a big no no.

Elves should be like this?

"cat got your tongue?" Werner turned to look for his travelling companion. The thing, crouched in harold's splayed-open belly, tearing at an organ with a knife fashioned from a chewed femur, man-like despite the yellow cat eyes and pointed ears, remained focused on its fresh kill. Werner, paralyzed with fear, gagged as a bone pushed through from his back to his front, and something bit down on his throat.

Oh right...that is more like goblins or orcs. So much for RAPTOR elves...
