I was actually planning on going waylayer archtype, allowing me to do d8s in the surprise round and get bonus initiative after. I looked at knife master, sapper is best for dpr I think, but I like the versatility and bonus to conceal daggers. And for flavor, I can just leave all the daggers in him. 4 daggers stuck in you in 6 seconds. And a bonus point of damage since they've all been whetstoned ;) But real talk no one see's anything illegal or rule breaking with this? I thought of the idea and it seems pretty solid. I mean, hard to set up for sure, but with decent stats I can put out like 90 damage in the first round if everything goes right* Seems legit.
Here's my IDEAL situation with the build I'm looking at: Build, rogue 5, TWF, Quickdraw, Persuasive, Betrayer, Underhanded rogue talent. We find a opponent that doesn't exactly want to fight. We start to talk, and I change his attitude using diplomacy. Betrayer now allows me a immediate attack if I want one. I activate the surprise round, as my immediate action from betrayer, I draw my weapon and stab him, dealing max sneak attack damage from underhanded. As the only one acting in the surprise round, I take a swift action to shoot a dagger loaded in a spring loaded wrist sheath out, and my standard to do another max damage sneak attack. Now initiatives get rolled. If I get lucky and go first, I can do another 2 attacks with regular sneak attack, as he's still flat footed.
Also, I want to bring up the Rogue Underhanded Talent. A rogue with this talent gains a +4 circumstance bonus on all Sleight of Hand checks made to conceal a weapon. Furthermore, if she makes a sneak attack during the surprise round using a concealed weapon that her opponent didn’t know about, she does not have to roll sneak attack damage, and the sneak attack deals maximum damage. If you CAN'T get a surprise round with a concealed weapon then why even bother putting that in there, and or why does this talent even exist.
My main question is, if they are aware of me, but don't see me as a threat, or don't see my weapon, should I not get a surprise round? I get that if you are invisible you get one, but why not have bluff and sleight of hand also be used to get suprise rounds? Another example. A prince is running from an assassin (le moi). I get ahead of him, activate my hat of disguise to look like a palace guard.
I feel like there should be some sort of in between. In the example DM_blake illustrates would make it so most if not all combats would have surprise rounds. But at the same time, the Way Brain in a Jar is talking makes it so it's almost impossible to have one without stealth/invisibility. How about this. I'm a gunslinger. I have a gun hidden under a cloak. I've rolled a pretty decent sleight of hand. I'm hanging out in a bar, and a nice bartender comes to get me a drink. He has no idea I have a loaded firearm pointed at him, although he is aware of me. I pull the trigger. Are we suppose to roll initiative, have him go first, and jump behind the bar in prepartion for the shot he's unaware of and that I haven't fired?
See I'm halfway in between. Like DM_Blake says, we aren't sure yet if combat is actually going to happen, and if it does, when it will actually start. Situation A) I'm hanging out in a bar, talking to the barkeep, being all friendly and stuff. Suddenly I pull out my knife and stab him. I think in this situation it's obvious I should get a surprise round. Situation B) Tense argument between two groups. Everyone has hands on weapons, or maybe even weapons out. Sorcerer is clutching his bat guano tightly. Suddenly someone lunges. Probably no surprise round here, just initiative. Situation C) (my situation) We are talking. Although a bit hostile, hands on weapons, they've simply said, go back or die. I'm talking to them, kindly, asking if we can perhaps buy or negotiate our way through. I've used a diplomacy check to move his demeanor from hostile to unfriendly, I agree to leave, reach out to shake his hand, but instead quick draw my weapon and stab.... ? This is where my confusion lies.
I recently encountered a place where we ran into an encounter but didn't have to fight right away. One of those "Go away or we fight". My question is, since we aren't in combat, and just talking for the moment, if I quick draw a weapon and attack, is this a surprise round? Or would me taking the aggressive action and going for my weapon start initiative. We are all ready to fight, everyone knows where everyone is, but we haven't rolled initiative or started fighting. Surprise round for the first to act? Is everyone still flat footed? Thanks all!
Pretty simple (or maybe not?) question but, the white mage archtype for arcanist says you can cast cure spells from the cleric list as if they were on your class list and prepared (by spending a arcane pool point) So are they always considered on your class list, but simply unprepared? Can I use wands of CLW with this archtype? Or would I still have to treat it as not on my list and UMD it? What if I spent the arcane point, then used the wand? Thanks all!
I know this has been asked a few times, but I haven't seen any conclusive answers. Extra Reservoir States: Product Spoiler:
Benefit: You gain three more points in your arcane reservoir, and the maximum number of points in your arcane reservoir increases by that amount. This, in my opinion, should mean that you get +3 max, and get 6+1/2 class level per day, instead of the normal 3+1/2 class level. If this is NOT the case, it means you get +3 for the day you get the feat? And then it just goes away? Is there any FAQ or paizo response to this? I searched but couldn't find it. If all it does is add +3 max then I feel it's kind of a waste of a feat, but +3 per day could be well used.
I'd like mobility partly for character concept, but also just in general. Although I very much like invisibility and the like, it prevents me from using any damage other than summons. Which... is not the worst, but just for my setting I do need to be able to do a bit of blasting. Everything has tons of hp. And unless I'm interpreting it wrong with dimensional slide you can move 10ft/level plus your base movement -5 Assuming a 30 ft speed, that gives me 65 feet as a move action.
And yes, regretfully although slide works like dimension door, it doesn't benefit from dimensional agility
Hey guys,
I'm playing in a pretty brutal campaign right now, and think this is one of the best ways for me to live as a squishy. What I really wanted to do is Arcanist with the dimensional slide exploit, and also use the school understanding exploit in conjuration: teleportation. This would viably allow me to move 10 feet per level, as a 5 foot move, then another 25 feet from actually walking, cast a spell, and then swift action shift another few feet. I think this is all kosher? The only issue is I'd very much like is to be able to take a decent size move after the cast, but since you act as only a level 1 wizard with the shift, it would just be a 5 foot. Which is still alright. I just had this great idea until I realized it was a swift to bolster knowledge then another swift to shift. Which is unfortunate. Note I'll be starting at 4th level. Is there any other/better ways to increase my mobility? Or any ways to get around the 5ft shift restriction? Let me know! Sorry for the wall of text! Thanks!
Hey all, 2 apologies first, if it's in the wrong section, sorry, and I know it has been done to death, but I'm having a difficult time finding a new, up to date, official answer. In the newest version of societies play, can you ONLY buy stuff that you have logged on your Chronicles sheet, or can you purchase ANY item up to the price indicated by your fame. From what I've read you it used to be the later, but my current dm and fellow players say it's changed. So, what can I buy? |
