Liberty's Edge

As a GM I’m attacking with a standard giant eagle (Str 18, Flyby Attack, CMB +9, CMD 22 & Fly +8). My intent is to fly down, grapple PC (elf wizard CMB +1; CMD 12 that weighs 150lb wet with all her gear).

I think it goes like this:

Eagle fly’s down (80’ movement), grapples the elf wizard (grapple check against wizards CMD) and on success giant eagle will carry elf wizard 40’ away @ less than 45 degree angle or 20’ away at greater than 45 degree angle – due to weight of elf wizard. Because the giant eagle is taking the elf wizard into a hazardous situation, the air, prior to being lifted away the elf wizard gets an opposed grapple check (against giant eagle’s CMD) to break free. Failure means the elf wizard is carried away.

Sound about right…

Lets say, the character has a long sword, 30’ of movement and no special feats to do the trick, except that he can make the acrobatics (jump) check.

Situation - A harpy is flying 10’ away and 15’ high and the character charges and jumps to melee attack the harpy – What happens.

1) Is that even legal and if so…

2) Does the character hang in the air if she does not have enough movement to land?

3) Does the character continue moving until she reaches the ground even if she does not have enough movement left – (that would be spring attack without the three required feats.)
a. Does the character land directly below the creature like a player dunking a basket ball?
b. Does the momentum carry the character a distance away from the creature?

4) Does the character provoke an AoO

Is there a rule that clarifies what happens?

In the description of a fire ball it says: An early impact results in an early detonation. If you attempt to send the bead through a narrow passage, such as through an arrow slit, you must "hit"? the opening with a ranged touch attack, or else the bead strikes the barrier and detonates prematurely.
_____________________________________________________________
Dose range matter & how dose it add to the AC?

How about the size of the opening & how dose it add to the AC (Door, window or arrow slit) ?

How dose movement add to the AC?
_____________________________________________________________
What would be the AC for a fireball to hit (Range long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level):

A Window 100' away.

An arrow slit 500' away.

An arrow slit 500' away. moving 30' (war wagon single move).

An arrow slit 50' away. moving 60' (War wagon double move).

Also, I know that in Legacy of fire the animal of choice would be a camel and that a general riding camel fetches around 300gp. Using the cost of a heavy horse to a heavy warhorse to determine how much a combat trained camel would cost I get: 400gp.

Camel, (base creature - combat trained) CR1 = 400gp (Rarity = non magical item)
Camel, heavy (advanced - combat trained) CR 2 = 1600gp (4x base creature) (Rarity to a +1 sward)
Camel, heavy (advanced X2 combat trained) CR 3 = 6400gp (16 x base creature) (Rarity to a +3 sward)
Camel, heavy (advanced X3 combat trained) CR 4 = 25600 gp (64 x base creature) (Rarity to a +5 sward)

I use a sward as my "rarity value" as a sward costs more then an animal and I think such animals would be rare indeed. So when in a city don't look at the animal's cost to see if a city would be able to have such an animal, but rather look at the value of the sward to see if the city would support such an animal for sale. Again, perhaps the only way to acquire the animals above in my game may be to sack the Orc king. They don't have to be for sale, but could be quest or reward items.

I'm not trying to take anything away from the value of an animal companion (and I would likely compensate a druid or cavalier in my game a bit). It's that, just at higher levels I'm looking to prevent animals from being blown out from under my heroes.

Hey all,

I have a question on just how the Staglords Helm would have been created using the rules in the core rulebook for crafting a wondrous item. Also some general questions.

A few questions:
- Was the Staglord a worshiper of the LG diety Erastil? (guess not)(If that was required to use an ability of the helm then the cost would have been 30% less)

- To use the helm was a free action, is there a cost for that when crafting an item (as opposed to a immediate, move or standard action)?

-What process on page 550 of the core rule book was used to grant the helms "effects" (perception +2, etc)?

If someone who knows crafting and has the book could detail out the method and cost to craft the item I'd appreciate it. just trying to understand the process better.

Thanks,

Scott.

Pathfinder really needs a greater variation of categories for natural fog conditions. Saying, "fog obscures all sight beyond 5 feet" is to much.

Perhaps three categories would be better:

1) "Natural" Fog: Normal visibility out to 60', 20% concealment from 60 to 120 and fog obscures all sight beyond 120'

2) "Natural" Thick fog: Normal visibility out to 30', 20% concealment from 30 to 60 and fog obscures all sight beyond 60'

3) "Natural" Heavy Ground or Tully fog: 20% concealment out to 5' and fog obscures all sight beyond 5'.

We can have these rules in a home game, but not in a Pathfinder Society game. For example, "Silent Tide" says in the first paragraph read to the players, "A thick fog hangs in the air". When you say a thick fog hangs in the air in a PSS module, we DM's have to ignore it (which we do) or have PC's walking around blind through the whole adventure. Though I might be able to get away with my "natural fog" rule above during a home game, but at a convention I would simply ignore the fog except for the unnatural fog in the module.

Customer Service,

I have a few requests: (If I can do any of these by myself please let me know how).

1) I have just signed up for Pathfinder Chronicles Subscription and I wanted to make sure I get Pathfinder Chronicles: Book of the Damned—Volume 1: Princes of Darkness (PFRPG) Print and PDF in my next shipment. Can you add that?

2) I have too many subscriptions, so can you cancel my Pathfinder Companion Ongoing Subscription. Sorry I just have X amount of RPG $.

3) I don't really care for the map folios in general though the Pathfinder Chronicles: City Map Folio looks like a keeper. However in January 2010 I don't think I'd be interested in the Pathfinder Chronicles: Council of Thieves Map Folio. This is not a deal breaker if you can't remove it as I never had a Map Folio before, but they are the same maps in the adventure path and I have them already. I have also read that they have secret doors marked etc, so I can't show them to my players... Right their is nothing new.

Thanks for all the great material and fun times,

Scott Johnson.

Do you know when you make a saving throw?

For Example, A bard is in his room at the local inn and casts detect thoughts before he goes downstairs where a number of people are gathered. Once downstairs he begins probing the thoughts of the inns patrons.

1)Do the people whose minds have been probed by the bard know when they made a will save?

2) Do they know if they failed or succeed their will save and dose it make a difference?

I have typically run games where in circumstances like this, if you failed a save then don't know a spell was directed on you. On the other hand if you succeed in making the saving throw then you do know you just made a will save (But not the source or the spell).

What are the pathfinder rules in this circumstance???

In a History of Ashes their is mention that if the PC's fail to earn enough respect points from the Shoanti,

Spoiler:
"The plans to wage war on Korvosa continue unabated, with repercussions as detailed in“Crown of Fangs.”". I have searched the Crown of Fangs PDF for invasion, war, Shoanti and Sklar as well as flipped through the book and I have found no mention of the Shoanti war on Korvosa.

I ask because my PC's have thus far called the game of Sredna stupid to Krojun face. The did not come to Krojun's aid when they heard him fighting the Havero. Not very quickly at least - he lost two braves and the rest were injured by the time the PC's arrived. At that point they detailed their plans to divest themselves of their tshamek status which had negative affects on Krojun's morale. Finally only one survived the the Trial of the Totem.

This means that the max respect points they can earn is 5 and that means... 5 or fewer Respect Points: Although the Shoanti are thankful the PCs were on hand to help defend Flameford, they cannot help but recall that the assault would never have happened if the PCs had never come to their camp. The plans to wage war on Korvosa continue unabated, with repercussions as detailed in “Crown of Fangs.”

So it's war baby! I was kind of excited to see what you had planned if it came to this, but as mentioned earlier I see no invasion plans/resolution... Any incite would be appreciated.

Has anyone created a 3.5 to Paizo conversion document for "Edge of Anarchy" and the other chapters of CotCT? I don't want to duplicate work if I don't have to.
