Highly anticipating the new sets as well. Got a chance to play the preview build last Paizocon and really liked what I saw. Looking forward to seeing the final product!

Wait, bards will be useful? Bards are one of the best classes in game. Who have you been playing with that doesn't know how to play a bard?

Goblin Junkship: The Burninator

This ship is a cobbled together nightmare that somehow manages interplanetary travel in defiance of all known laws of science and magic. Despite its fragile appearance, this ship is highly radiation and fire resistant, mainly because it's piloted by goblins, but also due to the nature of its primary weapon system, the Sun Gun. This weapon disgorges plasma skimmed from nearby stars, effectively making it the ultimate fire based weapon in existence. The fact that it usually propels the ship away from the enemy after being fired is generally seen as a feature rather than a detriment by the Goblins onboard.

If we're discussing mounts, what about mounts for small characters? A saddled riding dog or wolf would be most useful.

And maybe a spectral horse for the mount spell or for undead bad guys.

If I recall the Additional Resources page correctly, no subsystems were to be used unless specifically in an adventure or boon. As this is an optional sidebar, I believe it falls under this category. I would use the FAQ unless otherwise notified by campaign management.

Personally, I've always portrayed Shane as an excitable, overeager college professor who gets easily distracted by some minutia that's briefly mentioned. Which invariably gets him waxing poetically about said minutia, until he suddenly realizes other people are there. Which elicits a "what were we talking about again?"

As for Dreng, I've always tried to portray him as everybody's favorite crazy uncle. He's eccentric, a little weird, but always quick with a funny line or ready to laugh at someone else's joke. Basically somebody you wouldn't mind grabbing a beer with.

OK, this discussion has taken a very interesting turn. Maybe we should start a tangent thread on how we portray different recurring characters?

Jorsal of Lauterbury and Holgarin Smine for the win!

Total agreement on Holgarin Smine. In his few appearances so far, I recall him providing the PCs with useful information and equipment they might need to complete the mission. And snacks. Can't forget the snacks.

If Dreng conducted a briefing at a reasonable hour in a normal place, most of my characters would attack immediately, as obviously he's a doppelganger or some nefarious replacement. Dreng not being eccentric is a warning sign that something is wrong. :-)

I think the Sheila issues may have appeared due to her initially being portrayed as running a new lodge. Some of the early season 4 adventures had her sending the PCs out with little information since she didn't have sufficient intel resources. And then the golems would attack. Seriously, her more recent appearances have portrayed her as much more prepared.

Everyone, let's take a deep breath and relax a bit. We're all here for the same reason - we want to share our love of PFS and find a way to make it the best experience it can be. We're getting bogged down in a you said x/no I didn't situation, and that's not a constructive line of discussion. Please, let's move on to something more productive.

Some people did not enjoy this scenario for various reasons, and have provided feedback on why they didn't like it. Some have even provided suggestions on what might improve their experience in the future, such as additional information in the scenario blurb, rules handouts, or additional GM guidance. These are all good suggestions, and I'm fairly confident this feedback has been heard and will be taken into account in future scenarios of this type.

Bearing this in mind, let's move the discussion into a different area. If you didn't enjoy the scenario overall, was their anything that you did like? A favorite NPC? A cool set piece? (spoiler tags, please)

And on the flip side, if you did enjoy the scenario, did you see anywhere that things might be improved? (ditto on tags, please)

Thanks for reading.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I'll give the +2 for a good concept, even if it's not roleplayed out. For example, if you say you will meet the NPC at a bar and buy them drinks, or say you're going to address the noble extra politely, I'll give the bonus if your described actions are appropriate.

Not everyone is up for role playing 24/7, so I try to accommodate that.

All I'm getting is a mental image of Jurassic Park in which Grant says "It'll all be okay as long as they don't learn how to log onto the internet." followed by the distant sound of the dial-up screech and a cheery "You've got mail!" announcement.
Last time I looked at Cthulu's stats, he didn't have technologist or Knowledge engineering, so we should be OK

Nope, he doesn't have the prestige.

Wait, he has infinite disrepute, which can sub for prestige.

We are in so much trouble...

A few tricks I noticed (and used) to help keep your voice through the con:

Try to get a table on the edge. Noise level is lower.
2. Make hand outs, paticularly of the long speechs at the beginning. Even if you still read it, you'll have to repeat yourself less.
3. Ask for a volunteer to run initiative for you. One less thing for you to call out.
4. Hydrate. And a little hot tea between sessions doesn't hurt.

Isn't legal for a druid. It is a metal helmet, and they are forbidden to wear metal armor. (Okay, it is an arguable point, whether that means just full armor suits, but it always seemed to me to be questionable enough that I have never bought one for a druid.)

Historically, jingasa were made of a variety of materials, including wood. The material used had something to do with your social status or profession if I recall.

That has the effect of putting the one or two hold outs on the social hotseat. This is a major problem when you're talking about the typical PFS convention group of random seating of total strangers.

To address this, how about requiring the game to be advertised as hard mode similar to how Core games are? That way the only people showing up are expecting hard mode. If sign ups aren't sufficient by an organizer predetermined date, simply change the advertised game to a normal one. No more social pressure and scheduling flexibility. Win/win.

Silver Crusade 4/5

An easy way to do hard mode might simply to allow tables of 4 players to play the 6 player version of the scenario, assuming all players at the table want to play that way. This might work because:
1. It only requires a paragraph in the guide.
2. No additional resources need to be devoted to developing it.
3. It's easier to assemble 4 hard mode players than 6.
4. It's easier on the GM as they don't have to make adjustments on the fly for 4 players.
5. It opens up 4 seasons of scenarios for potential hard mode play.

Thoughts?

There was much confusion over the term gameday, as different areas use it to mean different things. To some it meant a multi-slot special event outside the normal schedule. To others it meant the weekly PFS event.

Around here it means LSU home football game, so good luck getting anywhere in the city today. :-)

I will apologize, Jon, if I've been condescending - I certainly didn't mean to be. I have to believe, somehow, this is going to get worked out. If not, I'll be quick to say I was wrong.

But, I just ask that folks (not just on this thread but all of them, really) express themselves with a little less...vitriol (maybe that's not the right word.) As I told Andy, I'm happy to help, I really am, but not if someone is going to repay my help by biting my head off. :-)

At any rate, I'll try to work toward a positive solution. It's not my area, but as a VC, I have a responsibility to help improve the overall program.

Hang in there.

Thanks Mark.

I also want to apologize for any tone I may have conveyed.

This has been a very emotional couple of days for us up here in the Frosty North.

While I don't know that I can speak for everyone in MN, I do know that some have cried, some have been on the verge of tears, and many are extremely angry and dissapointed.

This convention--Skal Con--is a labor of love for us. And sitting on unstable and confusing grounds is certainly disenfranchising.

Hopefully soon, we will have an equitable solution commensurate to the size and scope of the event. One that doesn't inadvertently lump it into a category for which it cannot belong.

I don't know what else to say. Nerves are very RAW up here right now.

Hopefully things will work out for the best. Worse comes to worst I've got some GM and player boons that I'm never going to use on my characters I can donate for con support.

Pitched that idea last year at Paizocon. John said no. :-(

Yeah, but wasn't that predicated on the fact that it was made of obsidian or something? Just means we need a hotter fire. ;)

Yes your Ifrit has a theme and doesn't want any ice spells, I get it. How about a haste or communal pro evil?

Or even better, how about every other blasting spell with the cold, ice, acid, or lightning element? Ifrit Sorcerers can convert all of them to fire for free.

An Ifrit Sorcerer should never voluntarily learn a fire spell (the elemental bloodline saddles you with a few). Learn other element based spells, convert them to fire as your primary tactic, and fall back on the spell's regular element when confronted with something immune to fire.
