Had a dream last night that I was a PC on the Isle of Dread, and the rest of my party was captured by a tribe worshipping Demogorgon. The PC's were fed to anacondas, then the anacondas heads were cut off and tied up tight and hung on a huge rack(picture huge sausage links). Then they inscribed different symbols and tattoos on the bloated hanging snakes while chanting spells and the like. After a while they left them alone to ripen in the sun for a couple days. I went over and started to cut one open with my sword and a creature that looked distantly reminescent to my adventuring companion leapt out at me, gaunt and covered with scales a forked tongue snake eyes but unliving. It was pretty disturbing and thought it would be a cool creature idea for STAP. If anyone wants to use it make up some stats and name it be my guest just felt like sharing.
I live in Connecticut not too far from where that chimp attack has made national news. Not to be disrespectful to the victim or families involved i am just mentioning this for the brutal savagery of an adult chimpanzee. I realize more powerful PC's can handle a chimp no problem, but imagine 1st level PC's getting attacked and mauled by an adult chimp even without the savage template. And what about the Olangru threads on here, a psycho-demon chimp that CAN take care of more powerful characters. I would have a savage chimp attack in the "There is no Honor" maybe where the PC's find the Rhagodessa. Possibly a couple large ticked off chimps that have escaped their pen. just a thought really intimidate your players with the primates right from the beginning.
I was thinking of a fun little twist for Divided's Ire, to be used for STAP or just a seperate side trek. Have the whole area cursed and any who stay too long become a demented baboon-like creature that either takes after one side of Demogorgon's persona or the other. The Volcanic side shelters a gang of savage, feral and strong creatures that can cause insanity with a stare. While the other gang are considerably weaker, intelligent, cunning and can charm others. maybe the PC's get caught up in a gang war between the 2 factions. And quite possibly one gang or the other holds the key to their only way out? This could be great for some comic-relief, some of the apes could talk very snobbishly and with sarcasm and a quick wit but very bent! While the others...well just picture the chimps that ripped that guys nose and testicles off in the news a couple years ago. Let me know what you all think of the idea. Divide's Ire was always a fun area to be creative with.
I don't own the Minatures Handbook so I don't have the skinny on Demon Lords Aspects. I asked this before but I am being a little more specific this time. Both "Khala" and "Gorgant" are aspects of Demogorgon, but unlike other demon lord aspects they are unique looking with variant abilities. "Khala" looks mostly like a kopru, now did Demogorgon infuse a kopru with his essence to produce the aspect or does Demogorgon just mold part of his essence Into a form he wishes and a slight change In abilities? I am wondering this cause I wanted to create aspects of the big "D" for my own campaign and wondering If there Is a set of rules to follow when creating your own esp. If you want to make a variation off of the Big "D" like "Khala" and "Gorgant" appear to be. Thanx In advance.
Probably not related to Savage Tide, but James you being the Lord of all things Ob I was wondering If Obox-Ob had or has any minions similiar to Demogorgon's Orlath Demons? And If you could describe It as well? Just curious, I haven't gotten It yet but was the last Dragon Magazine going to have something with Obox-Ob In It? Thanx.
I loved the Illustration of the Frogomoth On the editorial page of Issue# 150, funny cause just a couple days prior I was looking at MM2(1st Edition) at the frogomoth thinking of sticking one on the Isle of Dread but maybe a huge advanced version? Are there any stats for the frogomoth for the 3.5 version? Enworld probably has It right?
James I have read through all the possible outcomes at the end of the AP, but It doesn't actually say what happens to the Big "D" If he triggers the Savage Tide? I was hoping to see new stats and an Illustration of the new and Improved Demogorgon. Actually In my version If he succeeds It will be bittersweet cause as he does I want Obox Ob to attack him, and as the Savage Tide sweeps over both of them they each meld Into the other creating a new King of Demons. Demogorgon thought It was bad with a twin brother hanging around all the time that will be nothing compared with the absolute madness of another entity merged Into It's being that he loathes and fears. Same goes for Obox Ob It will be no picnic merged with Monkeybone either! A powerful new demon boss but even more Insane and hateful as Arendagrost?
In Wells of Darkness I noticed Echidna "The Mother of Monsters" Is Imprisoned In one of the wells. And It states that Harpies shrieks can be heard eminating from her well heralding a new birth. As you know Echidna with her mate Typhon spawned most of the greek monsters, Neamyian Lion,Hydra and so on. A DM could have lotsa fun wih this since Ahazu let's some of her progeny loose, I was going to make up a few creatures she spawned to play with the PC's. Question James Is Echidna getting congingal visits from Typhon, or just creating these herself?
My question has to do with Demon Lords aspects and clones, since Demogorgon seems to have a few In this recent Issue. How many aspects can Demon Lords have at one time and does It take any kind of toll on them or power drain? And what happens when the aspects are destroyed, Are the original Demon Lords affected? The same can be asked of the 2 clones of Demogorgons halves?
James Is this the offspring of Demogorgon and Malcanthet you were talking about that would make an appearance In STAP? In the Demonomicon Of Iggwilv: Demogorgon, he Is said to be a monster that Demogorgon finds unsettling to look upon. I figured with the top Abyssal Hottie as his Mom, he would look a little better. Still want to see a pic and stats on this guy.
Who else has not recieved there Issue #148? I was going to e-mail customer service to have another one sent out, but I didn't want to jump the gun yet unless everyone else has there magazine? I'm tired of reading spoilers when I should have It right In front of me, writing spoilers for everyone else lol!
On Most Haunted LIVE right now On Travel Channel, they are at Eastern State Penitenture In Philly. One of the most haunted places In the U.S. This Is an excellent reference for "Divide's Ire" from "Into the Maw" It just started at eight and will be on for he next 7 hours, so Incase your Intrested this Is excellent place to check out!
I have never heard of this Demon Lord, James Is this one you made up on the fly? Socothbenoth(Demon Lord of Incest), well that's right up Vanthus's alley with the way he's got the hots for his sister! Is there any info on this Demon Lord, seems there Is a lot of chatter going on In the Abyss right now who else Is going to show Up to try to take the Big "D" down?
I was seeing If there was an image up for the new Issue...NICE!!! Vanthus rocks! I couldn't help but notice some of the headlines like: Biggest critical threat ever "Demodragon"?, Bullywug Lich and Shadow Demons. I just started making up a Shadow Demon named "Simiax" who has been orchestrating Demogorgon's plan In my version of Savage Tide. He Is a corruptor Demon and Demogorgon has changed His normal appearance to that of a wickedly evil baboon made of abyssal chaos and shadow. How effin scary would that be to see a large shadowy baboon In your room as you wake up In the middle of the night and as you take action he makes the room go pitch black and rips you limb from limb. I had a bad experience with a baboon pack as a child.(Baboons, spiders and clowns oh my)
James I was wondering If Demogorgon's origins will be revealed In the last 4 issues? I know secrets about him will be revealed to the PC's In order to fight him better. It may have no rellevancy to the game but just curious about the Prince of Demons, and this would just be a perfect time and place to learn even more about ol' two heads. Like who are his parents? I'm thinking It would make sense If Dagon was his father since Demogorgon hangs with him and has been learning from him. And I can picture Mom being Pale Night, actually I think It would be rather cool If she was the mother to all the more Important Demon Lords. I was hoping to see an Adventure Path centered on Pale Night, she Is such an enigma.
My favorite articles In dragon recntly have been the Demonomicon, but sadly a couple months ago my subscription ran out. The last Demonomicon I have Is for "Dagon", have I missed any since then? I know the new one has "Malcanthet" In there and I plan on buying that. So how Is the article on "Malcanthet"? Also Mr. Jacobs, will there be a Demonomicon centered on "Demogorgon" to coincide with the end of this adventure path? Please, please, please!!! Also there Is mentioning of Demorgon and Malcanthet having produced offspring In the Fiendish Codex 1, will that appear In the adventure path?
In "The City of Broken Idols" Khala was the male aspect of Demogorgon, does this suggest there will be a female aspect of Demogorgon? I've had my suspicions from the the beginning about little-miss goodie two shoes Lavinia Vanderbooren, I think she's In with Demogorgon. And she'll be the female aspect of Demogorgon and totally dork over her brother Vanthus, probably not even close huh? But damn that would make for an Intresting plot twist!!!
WOW!!! I'm really gonna miss the Island had fun there especially "HTBM". But Scuttlecove DOES friggin' rock!!! I think largely In part due to It's great villians...oh yeah and cheescake lol. Loved the revamp of my favorite tramp "Tyralandi" and how she has taken over the Poryphyry House as the new madam. Harliss looked great on the cover that sassy little swashbuckler. Cold Captain wyther kicks Lemorian a$$! The "Leech" Is right up there, as well as the idea of the "Seventh Coil". Speaking of which Dungeon stole my idea(damn fly on the wall lol) "The Seventh" being a Yaun-Ti Anathema, I was going to add one In myself but didn't even think of a female...that's hot! In a very disturing kinda way. Maybe not as disturbing as 3 shaved harpy sisters? Ah then there's a revisit of the Orlath Demon AWESOME!!! Scuttlecove Is going to be an exciting place to visit, but wouldn't want to live there. Now were off to the Abyss can't wait!!! I am looking forward to seeing a great Illustration of Vanthus as a Lemorian/Death Knight and to see the inner workings and enviroment of Demogorgon's home. unique and hybrid demons running amuck cast off experiments Demogorgon's laboratory.
I really like the addition of the Skinwalkers to "City of Broken Idols"(James warned us some threads back that Jarilith Demons would be showin' up somewhere, nice!) Anyway so a priest of Demogorgon flays the skin off a living man using a lash prepared from the claws and intestines of a Jarilith, the victim Is burned alive but just before he dies a hide of a Jarilith Is thrown Into the fire and the two become one. How much of the man's skin Is flayed off all of It? Or just the back were most of the Jarilith hide Is covering? Because In the pic on page 70 I can't tell If It's skin or just raw muscle? Myself I am going to have them appear totally flayed to give a creepier look and also merge some of the Jarilith's and Man's traits more esp. In the face. Also who Is hunting down and killing these Jariliths for this process? I can't see them signin' up for this? Jariliths are pretty bad a$$ unless they are totally devote to Demogorgon and DO sign up for this to better serve they're master's needs? The Skinwalkers will be my version of the "OTHERS" from LOST(tv show). Very mysterious, resourceful, fearless, silent and deadly. Picking off the PC's one by one and even let the party witness one of their own going through the ritual of becoming a Skinwalker...Oh Yeah!!!
Just woke up and had to tell you the nasty dream I had. Basically I was just watching the events unfold, there was this modern day cruise ship coming into port and everything Is all fine and dandy. But then we dive beneath and see what Is really going on, all the barnacles on the bottom of the ship were just polymorphed savage-vampiric medusae. I watched them all change from barnacle to savage-vampiric medusae and climb onto the ship first and begin their rabid frenzy of nasty not so niceness! Whomever didn't get eaten became one af these little creatures, and then It was time to party It up on dry land...and you can guess the rest It was all pretty bloody and damn nasty hope you enjoyed. Guess I had STAP on the brain?
Just something I was dreamin' up. A nasty hydra with 2 baboon heads, lob a head off and 2 more grow In It's place. Maybe the heads could have a similiar gaze attack like Demogorgon? Anything with baboon heads are scary...well maybe not as scary as the new burger King or clowns. But If you've ever been to one of those animal parks were you ride around In your car and there are wild animals coming up to the car looking for food, and you and your family are surrounded by a cute little troupe of baboons and your feeding them fruit and you run out, and the huge male baboon jumps into the van onto the steering wheel opens It's mouth and flashes It's 4 inch long canines and starts having a hissy fit because you ran out of food...your gonna pee yourself. Baboons are scary!!! Anyway just thought the idea of this Lemorian Hydra would be an intresting little watchdog for Demogorgon?
Had a couple questions about the savage creature template, first off If creatures or characters that had high intelligent scores to begin with that suffer the -4 penalty still have a decent score can they rationalize or be strategic at all In their decisions? Second Do they last long In packs or groups or do they turn on each other after a while and just become cannibalistic? And last but not least If they can get along with their own kinds for extended periods, are they able to breed true with one another and make more of their kinds that way?
Does anyone have updated stats for the yeti? I only have the 2nd edition Monstrous manual stats. Should I just use the stats for the Dire Ape? Along with the chilling squeeze attack and It's temporary paralyzing attack from being frozen In fear looking Into It's eyes. What does this have to do with STAP? Well I have been working on my own adventure path, well before this came out and It Is very similiar and different. If anything STAP gave me a template to work off of and some great ideas. The first adventure takes place up north and I need Yetis damnit! Also those cute little monkeys that bathe In the hot springs In Japan, yeah well my little monkeys are gonna be undead and there not gonna be happy.
savagedave22 wrote: Anyone get issue#143 yet? I recieved mine today, the last issue everyone was talking about and I was freaking out and asked my wife If she sent in the payment for Dungeon on time? Then I recieved It like 3 days later than everyone on here...or so It seemed? I haven't sat down to really read It yet been busy, but I'm diggin' Vanthus's new look! No one huh? Pretty good read so far, If your players liked the first T-Rex there gonna love the second one! The little Phanatons make an appearance. Koprus, sea serpents, giant anacondas, couatls, rakastas and bat gods oh my!
This Is just all In fun, I myself never want to see another D&D movie ever again! Cause Damnit If you're not going to do It right then don't freakin' do It at all!!! But I was wondering just for the heck of It, who do you guys/girls see as playing the villians and NPC's? I know I started this thread, but off hand no one comes to mind...yet. And I have to go to Hell I mean work...no HELL!!! I'll add more when I come home.
James first off STAP rocks! It just brings other favorites together for me like: Demogorgon,LOST,King Kong,Dinosaurs,Pirates of the Carribean all just rolled up into one! Anyway I have a couple questions about future adventure #8 "The Serpents of Scuttlecove" first will there be any encounters at the Porphyry House? And will there be a return of the Orlath Demon as first mentioned In Dungeon Magazine #95 November/December 2002 "Porphyry House Horror"? I by the way was one of the few supporters of that experimental adventure, and I was even published In the magazine giving It my support! Will there be any more VILE adventures In the near future? Keep up the great work guys!
In my campaign a different form of Savage Tide constantly radiates on the Island, and once you make your save your good but the others become anthropomorphic animals as In the Savage Species book. All forms of primates, reptiles and sea life. they form their own groups on the island and all end up venerating Demogorgon out of fear and lies they are told the ones who didn't transform were not the chosen and must be sacrified to him. The primates look just like Planet of the Apes (2001), and my question Is does anyone have stats for chimpanzees and orangatauns? Apes, baboons and monkeys are mentioned so I am good there. The transformed begin loosing their past memories and some are able to cling on to their classes , while others like sorcerers and wizards have trouble do to charisma and intelligence scores deductions. They also breed true, and the primates all stick together as all the reptile and sea life groups, but each feel superior to the other causing battles to break out and the un-transformed are hunted down by each group to bring as sacrifices and try to outdo the other In a competive display to make their lord happy.
savagedave22 wrote: These creatures are takin from the old Fiend Folio: The Babbler, Bonesnapper and Qullan. They would fit perfectly on the Isle of Dread, perfect cept' there are no updated stats on these creatures as far as I know. The Babbler according to FF Is a weird mutation of Lizard Man(Folk), that I'll put a barbarian class on and make him a very stupid, brutish bully type in the Lizard Folk tribe. My Bonesnappers don't resemble that awful pic In the old FF, but picture a velociraptor crossed with a Fang Dragon minus the wings a T-Rex looking head and thick lower jaw. Also very athletic, alot of endurance and very "Dead Game"! Like a Pit Bull In Dino form! And then there Is the Qullan who In my game Is the silent and very deadly first mate to the devilishly handsome,quick-witted and sarcastic Captain "Aries Hawke"(think of "Sawyer" on LOST). If anyone has updated info on the creatures mentioned please drop a line thanx. That's weird I did this thread over cause It didn't appear the first time, now there's two...oh well.
These creatures are from the original Fiend Folio: Babblers, Bonesnappers and Qullans. Any or all of these creatures would fit perfectly on the Isle of Dread setting. Perfect cept' I can't find any updated stats on them I was hoping to see them In the new fiend Folio! I am using Bonesnappers In my campaign, but they look nothing like that horrible picture In the old FF. Instead picture a Velociraptor crossed with a Fang Dragon minus the wings, about 5' tall, lean, athletic. It's head and jaws thou are oddly oversized and lethal kind of a Pit Bull In a little dino form. In my campaign they are trained as (pit lizards) by a tribe of Lizard Folk. Years and years of combat and breeding has produced a deadlier version of Bonesnapper. The Babbler according to the old FF is a mutation of Lizard Folk, so I'll have one with a barbian class in the tribe as a big, stupid and bullying character. And the Qullan In my campaign Is the silent and very deadly first mate to the devilishly handsome, quick-witted and sarcastic Captain Aries Hawke.(Think "Sawyer" on LOST). Please If anyone has updated versions of these creatures please drop a line thanx.
Anyone wanting to add more flavor to their Savage Tide campaign, would do well to purchase this book from the movie. C'mon the Isle of Dread IS Skull Island! Lots of great ideas, illustrations(Ben Wooten),maps, a mess of new dinosaurs and creatures that you could homebrew stats for. A valuable tomb for my Savage Tide campaign!
James any chance when the PC's reach Demogorgon's Lair, we will be able to see some experiments, monstrosities, hybrid demons and whatever else Demogorgon Is working on? I'm always hoping these things will be included In books like BOVD or Fiendish Codex book 1. We know about the retrievers and the death knights which are great don't get me wrong, but Demogorgon seems like the mad scientist of the Demon Lords and I want to see what goes on In his laborotories. Also It's mentioned In Fiendish Codex book 1 that Demogorgon and Malchanthet may have offspring? I would love to have that featured somewhere In the adventure. Well there's some of my wish list for the STAP, anyone else? |
