Loved Altered Carbon (book and series)
One of my favorite games is Eclipse Phase deals with this a lot. Personally I feel the gods could care less. The "Soul" travels with the Ego/consciousness. In my games consciousness is required for a Soul. Consciousness is required for free choice or we'd all be Neutral alignment like the wild beasties.

The stack just extends life and doesn't make one immortal in any real sense. Death comes to visit all, including the elves.

anyway my 2 credits.

Interesting article about Eclipse Phase and Altered Carbon. It includes a link to Eclipse Phase rule book for free. The rule system is bulky, but one can just pick and choose what one likes and adapt it to SF.

I don't know if other races would have a Trans "issue?" no offence meant, but multiple genders is in the scifi genre and rpg.

Prime Directive, for example has a race, "the Hydrans come in three sexes that are generally referred
to as “male”, “female”, and “matriarchal”. As the
matriarchals have the intelligence of a sheepdog, they are
not often seen as player characters."

Ringworld engineers describes a race with 3 genders. "It's suggested in the first book that puppeteer females must mate with two males, one of each of the two "male types" the puppeteers have, in order to conceive. In the second, the Hindmost (who is mated to Nessus) explains Puppeteer reproduction in more detail. The "female" Puppeteer is actually a different species, which acts as a host for the embryo formed by the gametes placed into it by the Puppeteers, whose two "male types" are their actual "male" and "female" genders. The organs used to deposit gametes are described as being "most similar"."

Anyway, it looks like "male" and "female" tend to stay the same. Its the third that has a different gender name.

I always thought of Solarian as a almost copy of Destiny/Destiny 2 warlock class missing stormbringer(yay force lighting!)and supers. That would be a fun conversion. but anyway back to Jedi.

Jedi always felt very Mystic to me some martial ablity. I thought advanced class but a mystic/monk or better yet a combined class so you dont suffer from multiclassing.

Lightsaber can be class generated per solarian if you go that route or build their own which is closer to cannon. Think of the quest involved to find the materials! Great story path in the making. Starfinder already has 2 swords that can be used or modified.

High frequency sword-remember Jedi started out with vibroblades before lightsabers

Beam Sword: Which really says lightsaber to me.
There are also Three-section staff-which could be modded to be a double edged lightsaber and Monowhip which could be modded into a force whip.

anyway my two credits worth...
