Question about Aura of Justice...

For the paladin, what kind of action is it to use Aura of Justice? For the allies, is it only a free action (not a swift) to use the granted smite evil when their turn comes up?

In our pathfinder campaign, my PC (a paladin) got a bunch of negative levels from a vampire's slam attack. There was no save at that time (which is a shame...) but I'm wondering what happens next.

Here's what I'm thinking:

- All the negative levels are permanent. Restoration can restore one and then we need to wait a week and cast again. And so on.

OR

- The negative levels are temporary. After 24 hours, I make saves for each. Any failures become permanent and then we need to use restoration.

Then again, perhaps I'm incorrect either way. How do we resolve the negative levels from the vampire's slam attack?

How do you folks feel about a player using the Luck Domain's Bit of Luck when making the (single) skill check to finish creating a magic item?
