I'm running this AP for my players, and we're 2/3 of the way through the third book.

Unfortunately, my players are really not loving it. There have been moments that they've really enjoyed, all of which have been non-combat, round-based responses to a crisis. Everything else has them rolling their eyes or fidgeting with boredom. They are able to suspend disbelief with respect to there being a city in the sun's corona, but they are having trouble with all other plot-driving elements.

Is anybody else having similar problems?

Also as a side note does anyone know of a decent encounter builder program for starfinder?

Here's a good one!

I highly recommend the Laser Danger adventures. The scenarios are fun and challenging, and it's amazing how satisfying they are given how few words Laser Danger spends to create them!

I ran Alien Arrangements about a year ago, and my regular players still have their pet aboard their starship.

My advice is to run one or two additional, level-appropriate Starfinder Society adventures after you finish 'Into the Unknown'. My main group played 'Yesteryear's Truth' after that one, and then 'Star Sugar Heartlove'. The three adventures gave you a good look at different types of content, and you can decide at that point if you want to continue using prepared content or branch off into a home-brewed universe.

I also recommend the Aeon Throne adventure path. It's short (3 books), so you aren't committing to a long slog when you start it, and the stories and encounters are really interesting and fun to play. The only downside is that when you finish the AP, you will have players with characters they love with Signal of Screams as the only level-appropriate content available from Paizo.

If you're up for a 6-book adventure path, all of Dawn of Flames and Attack of the Swarm is available, so you've got some good options there.

To answer your question about the home-brew: creating a game environment that's compelling and cohesive is a massive amount of work, and the amount of preparation you need to devote to that process is hard to quantify. Decide if content creation is how you want to spend your time, because your party can't play unless you're ready to GM for them, and it's far quicker to bring a published adventure to the table than it is to write your own.

Having said that, you can test the waters by creating your own encounters that you insert into the prepared content. Draw up a wrecked spaceship for them to salvage. Insert a space goblin mugger into an alleyway of Absalom Station. The possibilities are endless.

Enjoy!

I'm curious to hear how other GMs ran the alien in "Event 1: A Situation of Some Gravity" (SD 5 - 6).

To prepare for this encounter, I reread the Pact Worlds entry on the khizar (PW 212), but this time with more attention to the details of the species since I would have to bring one to life as part of the gaming session. I noticed that they "have no eyes or visual senses, other than the ability to perceive the presence or absence of light. Khizars have blindsense (vibration) and blindsight (life), each with a range of 30 feet".

This, in turn, required me to reread the Core Rulebook descriptions of blindsense and blindsight (CRB 262 - 3).

My conclusion is that these aliens are literally unable to perceive or interact with the world outside of a 30 foot radius. Inside that radius, they seem to be quite disadvantaged, too; their blindsense only provides 'imprecise' non-visual input and their blindsight does not provide enough contrast to distinguish colours or read text.

If you've run this encounter (or have playing experience with this species), how do you handle the world beyond their 30 foot range?

My players ran this group:

Female Damaiya Lashunta operative
Male Vesk soldier
Male SRO mechanic (who died in combat)
Female Gosclaw technomancer (who took the place of the mechanic)

So -- you've announced the start of the second season, yet this adventure still isn't available for sale?
