For some random reason I voiced the flumph in question with my very poor impression of Jar-Jar Binks complete with the flailing. My group at the time found it amusing but others might want to squash it instead. The aquatic undead (I forget what they're called) prooved tough to handle but we didn't have a cleric on hand. A rookie mistake that I've made sure not to have repeated since. Aside from that I don't really recall much that isn't PC centric. Overall I think it's best for a more light hearted game but it's all in how it pans out. ![]()
Tristan is hilariously true to form, bravo!
Oh and good timing. Off by a day but close enough to still be amusing. ![]()
Aside from the staying on their feet and avoiding being washed overboard there isn't much for PCs to do until the mashers show up at the end of SWW. I know there's a laundry list of what happened to some of the passangers and crew but I'd like to give my players a shot at at least keeping some (ie the named) npcs alive. I have to reread through HTBM but I wonder about some of the mechanics of the attempts. Like say saving someone falling from the crows nest (can feather fall be done at range?) I intend to have Amella (the second in command) to STRONGLY suggest if not out right order everyone to get secure once she spots the oncoming storm. Also I have an artificer who created the little "helper golems" from the Ebberon book. I'm concidering half of them being washed away and/or becoming masher chow but any ideas on how that would effect the progress of the ship limping along to shore? ![]()
Bwahaha it took a bit of concentrated effort but my "home game" finally found Rowyn just barely before Journey's End. The artificer pc convinced the rest of the group not to toss her over board. He wasn't around for There is No Honor and thus was perfect for the task. With a creative veiled threat or two he convinced her to behave. She'd been kept in the improvised brig the false Father had occupied until the vine horrors started popping up in the ship.
The guy running the artificer has grand schemes of making her a cohort and letting her rebuild the Lotus Dragons. This gives me the perfect way to stear and prod the group along after the wreck especially once things get "interesting" for the Dragon Lady. ![]()

I find this ninja talk hilarious because I'm cooking up a ninja right now. It was spawned of one of my players' making a samurai character and I can't pass up a ninja vs samurai encounter. Myoga doesn't have a flaming sword but he does burst into flames ala the Blinding Flash substitute ability. Though I just realized that I need a replacement for Rowyn on the boat trip... sheesh I'm smarter than I knew... ![]()
Of the three games (yes three) I'm running: 1 Didn't make the spot checks initially but we had an adorable encounter while the group did post boss clearing of the guildhall. Churtle was packing up her cookware, wearing a pot on her head no less, thus the noise gave her away. She convinced the party that all she wanted was to leave offering her gold and shells as a bribe. She was allowed to scurry away and I intend to have her on the boat simply because she needed a job... At least that's what Lavinia will think. 2 Simply killed her. They will suffer bad karma for this I promise you. 3 Haven't met her yet but there's a ranger with halflings as his favored enemy. We'll see how that might or might not carry over. ![]()
*signs up for the Belessa Darkwave fan club*
Interesting name by the way very indicative of her faith. I don't remember if you went over it already but is that really her family name? ![]()
I've always seen Rowyn as being too antagonistic to be any shade of helpful if she's kept around. Of course I do go by the fact that she's heavily influenced by her mother (part of my reasons she stows away was that she was kicked off the estate to protect the family's standing in the Dawn Council). Of course I have a PC plotline to nudge her toward possible redemption through the last flicker of good in her black heart. I still don't really see her turning a new leaf until she gets in over her head (my choice being Olangru) and suffers worse than even she could imagine. Though I don't know how things would go after that especially if she gets as far as the return of Vanthus. There's also an effort to "reform" Avner as well that I don't intend to let succeed. ![]()
I have a ranger who holds nobility in contempt (yeah her interactions with Lavinia and two other PCs were really interesting at first) and Avner has been gaga over her since she saved him when he fell off the boat after that little party on the first day out to sea (he's convinced himself of some BS about mermaids/royalty that goes around in disguise). Well his attempts to woo her typically fail before they start especially when he gets advice from the sailors(bad really bad), and from his servants(even worse). His best attempt was spawned from the noble sorcerer/rogue which was rather good actually. Tayahnah was taking her shift in the crow's nest and the 'darling' scaled the rigging (with both servants aiding his checks) to bring her some water and an umbrella. Que some PSA about too much sun and what it does to the skin/cancer what not and so forth. He actually did pretty well until he blabbed that he the water was from Thunderstrike's rationed portion. He was thinking "well the horse isn't drinking as much as we thought so I put it to use." Her conclusion was, "I'm drinking horse spit."
The fighter's waiting for a chance to beat the tar out of him. Hell the cleric wants to kick his rear. ![]()
Well if we're going to go over how to bring Lavinia back without contrived family plans there is the fact that either a big cleric of her deity shows up saying that her path still lies amongst the living a bit longer. Or a cleric of Wee Jas (goddess of death and all) does so with her/his speach more appropriate to theme and stressing that it's a one shot deal.
Heh I'm suddenly amused with the possibilties of Lavinia "coming back wrong." ![]()
Substitute Patron 1: Lavinia was actually a little farther ahead in planning the expedition and Avner's father asks them to aid in continuing "their" plans. Substitute Patron 2: The Kellanis. Now I can see it as political manuvering to seperate the clan from Rowyn's activities. Why they would go to the isle of dread? That'd be the fun part. Substitute Patron 3: The Islarians. The only heirs apparent for the family don't want the job. They hire the party to find the "lost" siblings who may or may not be involved with the Isle of Dread. Substitute Patron 4: The representative of the Merchant District. Isn't she the drow wannabe? Maybe she was one of the people Lavinia's approaced about the colony when she found out about it. Substitute Patron 5: The relatives in Cauldron. There are the affiliations themselves. The Seeker's and the Zelkerune's Horns come to mind. Aside from that it stikes me a some what odd the a colonial expedition has gone unheard about. That sort of thing seems pretty big to me. Of course you can make it completely unique attempt by someone else and you "accidently" find Farshore which could be assumed to be a dead venture. ![]()
While I'm sitting here thinking about it. I was wondering how people have made use of the 4 petrified people in front of (forgive me) Tomoachan. My players haven't given me any background to play with yet but I've seen few mentions about releasing them and what happens. I don't have the Dungeon issue infront of me so I don't recall much. So please, do share! ^_^ ![]()
I haven't been through this portion yet but I have a plan. Oh do I indeed if my PCs keep her. It works best with the redemption route and after they head into open sea. Spoiler: My Rowyn has a stronger sense of self preservation than as written but she's still a snide and spoiled rich girl. She takes her shots where she can to annoy and disrupt the party outside of combat and other risky scenerios. However after the "boat crash" she is among many missing. I'll probably put in extra snags and encounters to make things seem more methodical for brighter players to maybe pick up. However during the first "darkness in the dark" encounter the sound of screams and combat can be heard. Counting heads finds noone missing however but signs of a struggle can be found not far from the camp.
When the party finds the crow warnings red hair is in their beaks... She and Olangru are working together alright but its not willingly. The evil monkey took several people from the wreck including some of the dead and dying for later use. When he grabs Urol his line is more along the lines of "I want a new toy." Rowyn is still alive when the rescue arrives but her state... is undecided. The fun is going to be figuring out how she stays hidden before the demon wisks her away. She's not going to be starting with the resources she had before. If the PCs are smart about it. ![]()
Cool! I was taken by surprise that this was up already. Yay!
There was one thing though typo wise. Was that bit with "Green Lady" on purpose? I don't recall that particular monikar for Wee Jas. ![]()
Funny I thought that all that "demoralizing" stuff was essentially what it was doing. With so many threats/problems from so many directions they don't "freeze up" or become demoralized, they just start fighting more because both heads decided they have the better ideas. I've always pictured them snapping or correcting each other even at the best of times. It's kind of hard to play out the arguement while running the battle though. ![]()
I have three games going ah-hahah-I'm so screwed... One online that's RP heavy because there's just one other person:
IRL 1 the Hometeam
IRL 2 the Awayteam

Just to add my to bits. I remember that there's an etheral filtcher making trouble in Farshore. I could see Rowyn dominating/charming/intimidating the little critter to help with getting supplies and what not. Could be a handy little hench for later tormenting as well until it's caught in the warehouse. ![]()
Hi I finished reading this a while ago chittering with glee. Hopefully the next installment should be soon but I thought I'd give this thread a bump... Alright alright I wanna see how the Tristen/Lavinia romance turns out! But really this has really been well written and think I've accidently let it slip to one of my players. I've printed out an entry or two to read off line and they found it. Now I have to consult with a certain "Mad" man to see about a few... surprises. ![]()
Zombie Boots wrote: Well somewhere buried in the STAP it mentions when Lavinia and Vanthus were kids they pulled a prank with a Potion of love and one of the local water wells. Prehaps Vanthus took a taste when Lavinia wasn't looking. He had to make sure it worked after all... ...Or he fell in and/or needed to be saved thus covering how they got caught. This would of course greatly depend on where they were dumping the potions. Umm is the journal still being passed out? If so my addy's senshineko_xatyahoo.com ![]()
Peruhain of Brithondy wrote: Too get a more nuanced picture, I recommend you pay the $4 to get the pdf file of the old "Scarlet Brotherhood" book put out by TSR, available from Paizo. It's got lots of great info on the Amedio Jungle and the lands to the south of the Flanaess, so it's great background generally for running the Savage Tide AP. Ah I see now. My humble thanks. I'll add the pdf to my list. ^_^ |
