Sorry all, every time I tried to log in the last few days the site was down with "technical difficulties" and that lovely picture of a goblin caught up in a computer's wiring.

Cel eyes the pouch with growing curiosity, "Should...should I pick it up?" He doesn't drop his firing stance, but it is clearly more and more challenging to keep his eyes off of the mystery pouch the closer he gets to Terry.

Haha, I appreciate the hang in there bit, but 12 hour days is the norm for me from now on. I went and got myself roped into working on professional athletes, because I discovered that nearly the entire NFL medical establishment is negligently terrible. NFL player's schedules really aren't their own, so I end up having to treat them on my own time. Who knows, maybe in a few years I'll actually start my own business so I can work 80 hours a week to eventually not have to work so many!

And good luck, Xizoh! College was so much fun for pretty much everyone I know who didn't treat it like grad school and work themselves to death. Many of my favorite memories came from there, and I'm sure you'll make your own too.

Cel finishes up his meal, and smiles at Alaina. Without taking his eyes off of her he says to those nearby, "I'm glad we all got here safe, and I thank you for a great meal, Laurett and Smitty. I'm off to bed." He still blushes a little bit, but not as much as he has been, then gets up a starts heading upstairs.

Cel thinks for a minute, "Kolda was bitten by one of the...creatures...but he went with another to find help. I don't know what happened after that. Zahan was with another group heading up the mountain." He looks in the direction of the mountain as if he could see it through the wall. "That...thing...is still up there, and the mists seemed...I don't know, different? Worse! I don't know where the two are, but they weren't with us when we left alive or undead." He frowns deeper and goes back to cutting his potato.

I already have my character built from level 1 to 20, so it'll be easy! When I get some time I'll level him up. There's a chance I get some space to do it before we actually level up, but I'll pretend the current stats are still in effect until it officially happens.

Done and paid for...it took us like a week. We're going guerrilla to get married! We're doing it in the Hoh National Forest (like wedding dress and hiking boots style). Only nuclear family allowed and her best friend is getting ordained to marry us. After the ceremony, everyone else can do whatever they want, we're done! The whole thing cost us about 6 grand and 90% of that was the photographers and the lodging for 2 nights. It's the best!

In terms of the story, I'm enjoying just going along for the ride and taking sub-plots of their own as they come up (i.e. Cel + Alaina sitting in a tree...)

With certainty in his voice, Cel says, "Step back into the cave! We can create a choke point, and I can slow them down!" He pauses momentarily in his mind, Did I just offer up myself to be the first in the way of danger?! What did Alaina do to me? Am...am I brave now?

Cel perks up slightly at the mention of clearing snow off trees. Wait, did I just get permission to use my wind as I please?! No, Cel, think first then act. I should clarify. "Um...Kolda, would you like me to clear off snow? Are there certain trees I should look for?"

I'll retroactively attack/circle trees depending on what Kolda says. Fast forwarding...

Cel freezes at the sight of the wolf, still unsure of how he's supposed to act around something so great.

Alaina & Cel:
It takes a second for Cel to come to his senses, and says, "Wow...that was unpleasant. Are you okay?" The question was directed at Alaina, but it takes a second for his vision begins to shift back to where he is. As his eyes adjust to the current terrain the first thing he notices that Alaina's shield is starting to slide down the mountain, but it hasn't yet registered that no one else is with them.

"Oh no, your shield!" he calls out and briefly takes a moment to inhale. As he exhales he takes some of the breath and infuses it within his body, Basic Aerokinesis on himself, and starts to run after the shield. It finally registers that no one else is with them, and it causes him to stumble briefly, but his current attention is at trying to save Alaina's shield.

Sorry, rushed post before heading into the clinic. It was just meant to be a reflection of taking control of his fear of getting into close proximities with the Captain, then walking in the office.

Cel listens intently and tries to make eye contact with the Captain as she speaks. It's not a look of defiance, and is one looks closely it appears that he's trying to keep his will strong despite fear to shrink away.

Answer: the law of inertia says no. Assuming the force supporting the vertex and spinning the air suddenly stopped, a moment later the spinning air would continue spinning just as fast as it had been. The air around it generates a damping effect, causing it to spin down pretty quickly. (Averaged damping constant depends on air density (i.e. temperature) and complex interactions with solid barriers, etc etc.)

But I do not follow what you just did (presumably on your next turn, after the non-PCs have acted). Can you walk me through that?

Thanks for the info!

It's the same turn, just a side-effect of Gather Power. If Cel takes damage while gathering power he has to make a Concentration Check or suffer the amount of Burn that is being reduced and lose the "stored" Burn. So, considering that both the initial damage and the ongoing damage were effectively happening one immediately after another I assumed two Concentration Checks would be necessary for each damage hit. He failed the second one, and I figured a small explosion would be a nice flavor text to the additional damage :)

Big turn for him! He pretty much looks like this now

I have the site up pretty much all day every day, it's just a matter of lack of things to say. There's also always the effect where I think everyone is waiting for a "leader" to say we're done here when it comes to make a decision. I've noticed that this seems to happen a lot in PbP games just during the traveling bits. Posts pick up when there's combat and when there's down time at an inn/military post/etc. Traveling is always rough..."Hey there's a thing!" everyone looks at the thing. Then we all stand around looking at each other until someone finally says, "Okay, let's go!"

Cel freezes as the snake materializes, but with the polite speaking he realizes this is probably what Xizoh was referring to earlier. After stifling a childish giggle at what Henri said, he leaves his position of the back of the group to come close to the snake. He reaches out to touch it, but then remembers...Think damnit!

He pulls his hand back and says, "Wow...you're so...pretty! I like the colors you make as you move! Can I..." he pauses as his eyes shift briefly, "Can I pet you?" The last bit coming out with far more excitement than he intended to display.

After a few minutes of looking about, Toyer stops making random noises. His eyes point down the greener path, and he says loud enough for everyone to hear in a tone that would be described as curious, almost questioning, "None of the things?"

Then his gaze shifts to the corrupted path, and again speaks to no one in particular. This time, the tone is not curious, it's more ominous. He frowns and says, "All the things." He pauses for a second, then says, "I see where you live!" He doesn't speak again or make any more noise where he sits, still dangling his feet, but no longer kicking them. His eyes transfixed on one spot down the corrupted path.

I kind of thought it might be a while, but I wasn't entirely sure how to convey that he is preparing to leave now just in case it's necessary. He obviously didn't get the details of the mission what with the impulsive demonstration of what he can do and all ;)

As for the edit, no worries, I did the same thing on your post showing up only seconds before mine did!

As Cel is getting up to peak around the corner, he looks right at the Lieutenant. He jumps and just before his instinct to blow the danger away kicks in, he remember what he just told himself. Think, then do. Think first. Always think. "I'm fine" he says with a mildly defiant tone that is completely belied by the swollen tear ducts puffing up his eyelids and the dilated blood vessels turning his sclera red. "Thank you" his manners remind him to say.

As Cel bolts out the door, completely oblivous to the Lieutenant calling after him, he heads straight for the front door of the building going for the nearest alleyway where he can hide. The first one he finds he goes for and tries to hide behind any debris...

I don't want anyone to find me: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

He sits down pulling his knees up making himself as much of a ball as he can sitting against the wall. I...I don't know why I did that? She was SO angry! Why did I have to do that? I've never seen anyone so angry with me before...and...and I've never been so afraid before. What if...what if people here aren't okay with the kind of magic I can do? What if that's why she was so angry. Everyone in the room looked so surprised, even the wizard looked like he hadn't seen something like that before. Am I so unusual? I've done this for a long time, but am I the only one who can? This time he starts to actually cry, feeling truly alone in the world.

After quite some time he tries to steal himself, wiping tears and mucus from his face. I have to be more careful. I don't have anywhere else to go...and those soldiers. What could have happened to them?! Maybe it was the mists? If they weren't familiar with the kind of things I do, maybe...maybe the soldiers were affected by someone like me? I can help! I need find out what happened, but I have to be more careful. Think Cel. Think before you do. Always think. But if they don't know anything about the things I can do, then they won't know how to counter it. I have to find those soldiers!

Cels face forms into one of stubborn determination. He gets up from his curled ball, but doesn't leave his hiding place. I'll just have to follow close by. They don't need to know I'm nearby! He checks his supplies in his backpack finding that he has enough rations for 5 days. That should be enough, right? It'll have to be.

He finds a place in the alley where he can watch for the others to leave, ready to follow them. I've done this before, I know how to sneak. With confidence renewed, to a point, he prepares for what he knows he will need to do to find out what happened to these soldiers. To help any way he can.

Cel had never been scolded like this before. It was probably the first time in his life that he truly felt the gravity of a situation. He's certainly made mistakes in the past, but it's pretty clear he's never really been in a situation where life and death was involved. He's definitely never been around military personal let alone interacted with them on an official capacity.

His expression of adorable puppy face didn't last long. As the Captain began to yell, Cel began to truly understand the mistake he made. And then the fear set in. He started to back away from the Captain, tried to shrink further into his clothes. Whether by accident or pity, none of his antics ever really got him in trouble before, but this was real and it shook him to the core.

GM Mikkel wrote:
She looks Cel in the eyes and says, ”Young man, we are not going to pay you to be a liability. You just lost a spot on this team.” She turns to Lieutenant Buhari and orders, ”Lieutenant, see him out.”

As the Captain turns to look Cel in the eye, his eyes pop fully open as a reaction then dart to stare intensely at the floor. To each sentence she speaks he nods several times extremely quickly, but doesn't speak. He doesn't hear the Lieutenant say his condolences. As soon the Captain finishes her last sentence he bolts out the door wanting to be as far away from the wrath as possible, tears starting to form in his eyes.

I will probably be able to post another more descriptive post later today. I'll cover both where he goes, but also how he'll find a way back to the group on an unofficial capacity!

Hello friends!

I'm trying to run a homebrew in a sandbox world that is about light-hearted fun a la We Be Goblins! style play. A little backstory...

I manage a physical therapy clinic in a large health club, and for as much as I love my job I deal with enough drama all day long. When I get home from a long day at the clinic, I really just want to laugh. I'm all for the epic level dramatic sagas that can be tabletop RPGs, but sometimes I want a break from serious characters in dark adventures.

So, I am interested in running a sandbox type campaign that is more about the characters than the story. Story would be a more fluid concept in reaction to what the players are doing, but not necessarily the driving force of the game. I have not done a ton of GM'ing in the past, but I've done enough to at least be competent. What I would be looking for is characters that are fully fleshed out with their own stories, quirks and eccentricities, and most importantly some kind of fun concept. I don't even care if it is a min-maxy character if it applies to the backstory. I've built a character as a bit of an example of what I mean by ridiculous/comedic:

Dinglecanter Fizzlesnot

In this example, all of his spells are mucus based. Not part of the actual rules, but works better with the character. So, when he casts "Drench" the spell takes on a whole new meaning...

Because this campaign would be so heavy on the character focus, all Paizo and third party material would be available. Creativity is king to me, and limiting your access to content might limit the concept you want to develop.

As far as gameplay, I'll still be using all the monster manuals, dice rolls, and the usual stuff, but this is about everyone having a good time. I'm all for hand waving rules every so often when the suggested action is just too good to stop from occurring because the rule book wouldn't allow it. For example, in a We Be Goblins! I ran a while ago the party alchemist (who found a bottle of Sovereign Glue) teamed up with the party rogue for shenanigans that were just too good to say no to. The alchemist came up with the idea to throw the glue into the air while the rogue ran and jumped, colliding with the glue in mid-air, and landing on an owlbear's back for permanent back-stabbing. I still required dice rolls for success, but I loved the creativity so much I was just as happy that it succeeded as the players were. I love the spirit of that kind of idea! Also, the way I see it is that critical successes are just as much fun as critical failures. I love flavor text as to why a thing succeeded or why it failed. My whole goal for this is to be something everyone in the group can come to and laugh at on a daily basis.

Character Creation:
Starting Level: 3
HP: Max at first level, average for the rest (Hero Lab users have a check box for this)
Abilities: 20 point buy
Traits: 2, no restrictions on them if they fit the character - go ahead an use AP and regional traits
Starting gold: 3000gp
Special Rules: All Paizo AND third party content allowed. I'd hate for someone to miss out on the perfect character concept because of a silly restriction like no access to some kind of bloodline or feat.

VMC is allowed, and after thinking about it I wouldn't want to go with gestalt. I said I don't mind min-maxing necessarily, but if one character is gestalt and others are not I worry about an imbalance in the group. However, if you make a good enough character case for why gestalt should be in there I may allow it.

Everyone gets these feats for free: Catch Off-Guard, Sling Anything, and Throw Anything. Blowing that many feats for improvisational problem solving is too much for my taste. I WANT you to be creative with your solutions.
Background: Here is where you sell yourself. Since this campaign is entirely about the characters, I want to see what you bring to the table with the character's background. If you already have one written, great! Leave it there. At the very least do a 10-Minute-Background.
RP Sample: I would like to get an idea of how you would play the character.
-----------------------
You walk into the town hall. There is a large group of people yelling about missing cattle, dying crops, and mysterious creatures in the night that people have described 18 different ways. It's obvious there's a threat to your town, but no one has stepped up to fix it and the mayor is holding this meeting to find someone to help.

What do you do?
-----------------------
Posting Rules: 1/day at the minimum. I will try to make sure I'm keeping things progressing as best I can as well. Special exceptions can be made to the 1/day rule as life always messes with plans every so often.

Have fun with this!
