A few questions about Dimensional Steps;

1. What does the 5 foot increments mean? Can i step over a 15 foot pit, through a wall or a stinking cloud?
2. Do i need to be physically touching other characters to bring them with me?

How do i do this in combat?
3. Does a spell like ability have a verbal or somatic component?

Cheers

Hi guys, will be playing a wizard for the first time and have a few quick questions:

I start on Lv2, with 1000GP. Is there any reason not to buy scrolls of most/all LV1 spells and learn them?

Any suggestions other than scrolls for how to spend that money? Obv not spending it on weapons or armor, and doesn't seem enough for most things magical. Any decent cheap items a wizard should have?

Can I use a scroll of a spell that is say LV3 that is on my spell list but that I havent/cant learn yet?

Think thats it, read through treatmonks guide and its pretty comprehensive.

I'll definately be putting my LV4 ability point into CON, and getting a +2 CON item is top of my agenda but don't see that happening for a while. Dont think there is much point in going ranged as the party ranger is a beast, rolled STR16 DEX18, mighty+3 composite longbow etc. Thats my logic for going duelist - try and pump my AC and attack as much as I can, and spring attack out of danger. Not ideal, but not much that can be done with stats like these.

Some awesome suggestions guys, thanks. I know that 4 levels ahead is a lot, but if i'm multiclassing im either doing it this level or next, so wanted a rough idea of where I was going.

The GM will allow 3.5 "core" to an extent, eg something like staggering strike is probably fine, but a dip into something like swordsage probably isn't. I'd say PHB & Complete handbooks are the limit of it.

I hadn't really considered Duelist before, but I think its what I'm looking for. +3 INT to AC, +1 damage per level will help with my low STR.

Problem is rogue's crappy BAB progression. If I stay rogue it'll be lv9 before I could take it. I think its probably worth staying rogue next level to get uncanny dodge, take toughness as a combat trick, BAB+1 to 3, then 3 levels of fighter.

One or two quick questions:

If i'm multiclassing, and say this level I take fighter, I still get my +3 class bonus to rogue skills that the fighter doesnt have, right?

Are there any one handed light/weapon finesse usable weapons that have a better base damage rating than the rapier?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

Have gotten myself awfully confused when it comes to sneak attacking from stealth by reading some threads today.

Am I right in saying that as soon as you no longer have cover ie are in line of sight to your target, that they basically have a DC 0 perception check to see you, and therefore you are no longer stealthed with respect to them. Therefore, If I am a rogue and begin my turn behind cover, and move out to attack an opponent who was previously unaware of my presence, and it is during combat (so not a surprise round), I am unable to sneak attack him?

Could someone point out the utility of stealth with respect to sneak attacking in combat, if indeed there is any?

Hey, considering a 1 level dip into fighter for my lv3 rogue when I next level. Here are my stats as is.

Raidan - Half Elf Rogue - Chaotic Good

Str 12
Con 7
Dex 16
Int 16
Wis 11
Cha 13

1st level feat : Weapon Finesse
2nd level talent: Minor Magic (ray of frost)

Weapons: Masterwork rapier & shortbow
Armor: MW Studded Leather, Heavy Duskwood Shield
HP: 15 AC: 19

Obviously putting my 1 ability point into CON.

The two paths im considering are:

1

4 Fighter 1 Mobility
5 Fighter 2 Combat Expertise, Spring Attack
6 Fighter 3 Armor training
7 Fighter 4 Improved Feint, Whirlwind Attack

Then back to Rogue

or 2

4 Rogue 4 Combat trick (mobility) uncanny dodge
5 Rogue 5 sneak 3d6 Spring attack
6 Rogue 6 Bleeding attack
7 Rogue 7 sneak 4d6 Toughness

Then back to Rogue

or 3

4 Rogue 4 Combat trick (mobility) uncanny dodge
5 Fighter 1 Combat Expertise, Spring Attack

Then back to Rogue

With 1 at CL7, char would look like: 18HP+4(d10-1)+4 favoured class = max 58HP, MW Mithral Breastplate (AC penalty 0), Adamantine heavy shield (AC penalty 0)

Attack: BAB+7, 1d6+1 damage, sneak attack 2d6, AC 25 dr 3/
Fort 6 Reflex 7 Will +1

With 2 at CL7, char would look like: 18HP+4(d8-1)+4 favoured class +7 toughness= max 50HP, MW Elven Scale (AC penalty 0), Darkwood Heavy Shield (AC penalty 0)

Attack: BAB+5 1d6+1 damage, sneak attack 4d6, AC 24
Fort +2 Reflex +5 Will +2

My logic for the 3/4 split would be that fighter would allow me to get spring attack and decent feats faster, rather than having to take bleedign attack/some other rogue talent at CL6 because i'd have already used combat trick. It gives me proficiency in medium armor + shield, access to some useful skills which I can then abuse with my 11SP a turn as rogue, plus if I went to 5 I could get weapon proficiency Elven Curved Blade. Also compensates for rubbish con score with better fort saves and d10 HD.

On the other side, pure rogue will have a much higher sneak attack, uncanny dodge.

Suggestions on which route to take, or any alternatives most welcome.

I think i'll go the dodge mobility spring attack route, and put 1 into con at lv4. The other PCs are a warforged warrior, a ranger focusing on ranged and a cleric, so another close combat player would help I think. I was thinking shadowdancer for the HIPS to improve sneak attacks, and if i go dodge mobility spring attack i'm only combat expertise away from the requirements. Or is a pure rogue going to be stronger?

3.5 is allowed within reason, I think one guy is thinking of an extreme explorer build and the GM is fine with that.

Hey guys, in my first pathfinder campaign, and first d&d for a few years. Stats were rolled down the line with one reroll, which was a 8 con to 7 con :( I've just hit lv3, and haven't really decided where to go with the character to compensate for the appalling HP. My AC is a decidedly unimpressive 17 with a masterwork studded leather.

I was considering dipping into shadowdance for two levels to get HIPS etc, thoughts on this or other routes for this build? Thanks
