This is absolutely well worth downloading. I honestly can't believe it is free. I haven't run it yet, but looking it over it is filled with great maps and descriptions. As has been previously mentioned it is designed in a very retro gamer way. Nice, usable pregenerated characters, maps and NPCs as well as a really good story line ... for free! Honestly it's a dream come true. This is perfect for someone that wants to try out the Pathfinder rule set without a huge financial commitment. You'll find yourself more in love with the system as a result.

Even if it were to be outside the official Society framework, I'm sure there would be interest in test driving the new system. If anyone knows of a PBEM game being arranged I'd love to try it out. Who knows it could be used to prove that it could be done thereby validating PBEM games for the Society.

My home game is currently is a PBEM campaign. In fact I have two on the go right now. The 4 hour modules for Pathfinder Society would probably work well for our campaign speed. Is there a way to do my PBEM game as a "home game".

Aah! That makes sense, So "Rise of the Runelords" for example runs on the 3.5 system not the new one that is in PDF currently. The new system won't be out till August, and then modules and such will be available for the new system. Is this right?

I didn't mean to sound daft, I just thought Pathfinder was a new system (not previously released) that tweaked with the 3.5 ruleset. I didn't realize that it had been around for a while. So you're absolutly right, I was confused. Thanks for the clarification,

It sounds like there is some confusion on your part.

The modules and APs and players guides being printed right now follow the 3.5 SRD rules.

Because the 3.5 rules are no longer going to be supported by WotC, Paizo has decided to produce the Pathfinder Role Playing Game Rules, an adaptation of the 3.5 rules. These rules are being playtested now. When they are finalized in August of next year, the Modules produced THEN will follow the new rules, not the 3.5 rules.

Hope that helps.

Also, It would be unwise for them to put ALL their eggs in one basket when there are so many of us that will still buy 3.5 books such as these. They can sell 4.0 and 3.5 simultaneously as an insurance policy incase it tanks. (Probably isn't going to tank completly) This will just broaden their profits a bit.

Hi, I have some questions:

I love the concept of this game! It fixes many frustrating glitches in the WoTC editions and keeps the flexability I like. The Magic Item and skills fix is worth the cost already.

I have a question though. How are all these suppliments and modules being sold when the ink hasn't hit the paper yet? I am reticent to drop money on campeign settings and modules if I can't even get the player's guide yet.

I know it is on PDF and it looks great, but I really prefer to have a book in front of me while playing than a pile of copy paper. I like having a window open in a hot stuffy smelly gaming session. Paper pile + Gust of Wind = Unhappy Gaming.

Any suggestions as to how I can get this started prior to May... June ... August (???!) Is there a previous version that I didn't see?

Thanks,
Cottonedge

Hello again,

Welcome to the Pathfinder RPG Alpha release 1 forum. This is the forum for posting specific observations, queries, and concerns about the rules in release 1.

When starting a thread, please list rules in question and a page reference in the subject line of the thread. Please take a good look through all of the threads first to see if there is already one in progress about the rules in question. As future Alpha releases become available, new forums will be created to support those releases.

Thanks again for checking out the Pathfinder RPG. I look forward to reading your feedback.
