Welcome adventures. Feel free to use this Discussion thread to provide feedback, ask questions and lengthy out of character conversations.

Some things to know about this Adventure Path thread:

1. I intend to play this thread through all six modules and reach its final conclusion.

2. Don't worry if you make a mistake. If you want to retcon something, just add a post here in this thread and hopefully we can come to a resolution that satisfies everyone. I do not care as much about the technical playing of the game as I do that everyone has a good time playing. Your enjoyment is my number one priority.

3. I am not going to worry about XP. I am planning on using the Adventure Path modules as a guide on when your characters will level up.

4. You can help me out a lot my formatting your character profile's Classes/Levels line as follows:

<class>/<level>| HP <current>/<max> | AC <normal>/<touch>/flat-footed> | F+<fort>/R+<reflex>/W+<will> | Init+<initbonus> | Perc+<perceptionbonus>

5. You don't have to worry about things that will affect your combat rolls like Cover, Shooting into melee, etc. Just post your dice rolls with whatever bonuses you currently have. I will let you know if your attack/spell/etc hits/is effective/etc.

6. I am very active when checking posts; however, in combat where multiple characters may go between enemies I do not care about maintaining the initiative order. If a player posts something out of initiative order, that is OK. I will resolve all the actions at the end of each round and let you know the results. In some cases, your actions may not have impacted the final result (i.e. you posted something before another party member and that party member's action resulted in the end of combat). If your action resulted in the loss of a spell/item/etc. I will post that your action was not necessary and the spell/item/etc was not cast/used/done unless it provides the party some benefit that you desire to happen.

7. Feel free to ask questions about anything. I will do my best to answer whatever you are interested in/concerned about.

8. Finally can everyone post their timezones. It would help everyone's expectations on when to expect your posts.

Jade Regent - The Brinewall Legacy
Prolog

The sounds of their boots on the hard stone floor reverberated through the halls of the Sandpoint Garrison. Marek and Tolvar were returning from their nightly rounds and were looking forward to returning to their homes.

A loud voice came from behind them "Where is he? I need to speak with him right away!"

Marek turned to see Calvin Rimstone marching quickly in his direction "What is it this time Calvin?"

Calvin did not attempt to hide the exasperation in his voice "Another of my caravans was attacked yesterday. My drivers can't control their horses with all those fireworks going off. Something has to be done!"

"Fine, we didn't see the sheriff go home during our shift so it is likely he is still here doing paperwork." replied Marek.

Tolvar added "Ha! He is probably asleep. I sure wouldn't want to be the one to wake him. He is going to be in a foul mood. You better watch yourself."

Pushing his way past the two guards Calvin proceeded down to the end of the hall and knocked on the door of Sheriff Belor Hemlock's office.

A loud snoring came from behind the door which was interrupted with an angry growl "Go away and let me sleep!" came a voice from inside the office that was surely a suddenly awakened constable.

Marek hastily opens the door and before he quickly heads back down the hall, he warns "Calm down, we don't want any trouble. My shift is over and I don't want to have to make out a report on another incident."

Calvin bursts into the office totally ignoring Marek's advice "Sheriff, I need to speak with you immediately. These attacks must stop! We need to speak with the mayor. I'm losing money to these goblins and if we don't do something quickly, the officials at Magnimar will notice. We all know what that means and none of it good."

Looking out the window and seeing a rising sun peek through the trees, Belor responds "Oh, its morning already. I don't need this headache. All right, I'll head over to the Town Hall and see if I can get Mayor Kendra to convene a meeting."

Some appeasement appears on Calvin's face as he turns and heads back the way he stormed in. As Belor's head falls into his desk with a smack "Another fine day in Sandpoint." he falls back asleep.

Around noon, the town's deputy Galthanas Silverthorne an elf with arcane skills had organized the meeting that Calvin demanded. The leaders from the town were gathered faster than usual based on the deputy's insistance. "Please everyone, we need to get this meeting started."

The large meeting hall in the Town Hall of Sandpoint was rarely populated during the gatherings of the four noble families: the Kajitsu, Valdemars, Scarnettis and Deverin. Mayor Kendra Deverin was also a lawmaker, judge and general peacekeeper of Sandpoint and this fireworks business gave her a great deal of stress. Today's gathering was unusual as several of the town's business proprietors as well as a great deal of ordinary townsfolk were in attendance. With a bang of her wooden gavel Kendra bellowed so "To order! We must begin. As you all know, recent events have interrupted our normal shipments along the Lost Coast Road. Despite our attempts to quell these distirbances with additional patrols, our merchants are still suffering from attacks by goblins."

Mr Rimstone as head of the merchant's guild that services Sandpoint interjected "Yesterday three travelers were severely injured. The panic from the caravan's team of horses is getting worse than the goblin's attacks. What is this town planning to do about this!"

Mayor Kendra again banged her gavel "Order! Please don't interrupt! It will only prolong this meeting. Sheriff/Deputy do you have a plan that can help us put an end to these attacks?"

Without a good night sleep Sheriff Belor is slow to respond. An opening in the dialog provided Galthanas an opportunity to respond "Yes. The sheriff and I have discussed the matter and we agree that we should restore an old practice known as the 'goblin bounty'. It is crude, but effective. A bounty of 10 gp will be paid for every relatively fresh goblin ear delivered to the town hall. Our reports indicate that the group is known as the Licktoads who are led by a goblin named Chief Gutwad. Once their leader is killed/captured, this disruptance should cease."

Another loud bang of the gavel is followed by "Very well. We should vote on this proposal, all in favor raise your hand."

All the leaders raised their hands immediately except for Ameiko Kaijitsu the owner and propertier of the Rusty Dragon an inn/tavern located just past the southern bridge overlooking the Turandarok River. These meetings bored her and she never liked having to attend them and did so only to honor her father's wishes. She could have resigned her duties entirely after her father past and no one would have blamed her. Most residents of Sandpoint knew she desired more than her peaceful existance here in Sandpoint. As all eyes in the conference room turned to her (as votes of this type needed to be unamious) Ameiko let our a heavy sign and raised her hand "It looks like we have no other choice."

Later that day Sheriff Hemlock managed to hastily get dozens of flyers made to distribute around the town. As he entered the Rusty Dragon, he noticed that the inn was deeming with customers which did not surprise him at all. Ameiko was the best cook in Sandpoint and people from both the town and travelers came here to partake in her excellent cuisine. "Here is today's flyer to add to your Help Wanted board."

In addition to running the inn, Ameiko hosted a message board to help travelers and townsfolk with requesting/providing needed goods/services. "Thanks sheriff, always a pleasure." Ameiko says with a smile that only the most disciplined could resist. "When your finished stop by for some mussel and vegetable soup. The salmon and coconut rice dish is also very tasty."

Belor grins and turns to leave and whispers to himself "The food in this place is going to make me copperless."

Each of you finds your self at the Rusty Dragon on the morning of Fireday, 10 Erastus. Your reasons for being there may vary and it is up to you on the amount of detail you wish to share, but you all have one thing in common - you all share a bond with one of more of this Adventure Path's NPCs.

The rising sun burns off the morning dew as the temperature begins to rise. Today appears to be another scorcher in the summer heat of Varisia. Laughter, music, and light fill the cosy common room of Sandpoint's most renowned inn. Behind the bar, Ameiko Kaijitsu greets each newcomer as a friend with a wave, a wink, or a genial welcome.

Common Room of the Rusty Dragon's lower floor

The solid wooden front doors of The Rusty Dragon stand in the shadow of the large bronze dragon feature fixed on the wood-shingled roof above. Patrons enter through the large common room. There are two medium-sized stone hearths on either side of the room, both with redwood tables by them. (The Rusty Dragon features elaborate masonry chimneys with chimney pots). A well-hewn stone floor leads to a large beautiful woven floor mat/rug which sits at the base of a wide, finely-crafted redwood/wooden staircase ascending to the upper floor sleeping chambers. To the left of the stairs is a large/long L-shaped bar - with stools to sit down on (seating for 9) and by the bar is the large "Help Wanted" noticeboard (a well-known way-point for many townsfolk and travellers). There are over a dozen redwood tables - with a large candle/lantern decoration at their centre. Near the entrance to the common room (to the left) there are short wooden stairs leading to a wooden floor area, featuring a large stage for musicians, actors, speakers and bards of all types to perform for the crowd. There is an outdoor courtyard, behind the bar area and a large kitchen suited for open hearth cooking. Behind the stairs and along the right wall, there are areas for visitors/guests to sleep for the cheap price of 1 copper piece per night. There are tall and narrow glass windows throughout, with small diamond shaped window panes - lead casings holding them together. To stave off the chill, there are numerous exotic and rich tapestry wall hangings. Half-timber work features on both the external and internal walls; the spaces between the frames filled wattle and daub. The inn/tavern screams of warmth and comfort and a wonderful respite from travellers coming in from the open road.

You may begin role play between each other and any NPCs present in The Rusty Dragon. You may have started this game as either strangers, acquaintances or friends. Together your actions will forge a path that will unite the group into a close-knit and capable adventuring team. Take this time to get to know one another, find out whatever information you may want and establish your dynamics with the group and the NPCs. Happy gaming and good luck! Your adventure begins now.
