Thanks for the input everyone! While I've got you all here to discuss with...what options for character building do you use most often? Since I'd like to run the 'Price of Immortality' in a kind of *big* fashion, I thought I'd let them do the character build at the "High Fantasy" (20points) level. Thoughts on that? >WBM
So I'm getting back to gaming after finishing school. I'm slated to run some Pathfinder for some friends who don't know the rules well. I don't really know the rules well anymore. I wanted to ask you all, what are the changes to the Rules As Written that are most common? Do you, personally, house rule anything? What changes can make the game move a little faster for newbies and Lazy GM's? Oh, and I specifically want to ask if anyone's had any success with any kind of Action Dice / FATE point mechanic with this system. Thanks!

If you don't know True20 has a more abstract damage system. There are a few interesting variations on it to be found in the True20 forums. Here is a good discussion of how it works. Hope that helps you in your search for what works for you! >WBM

THANKS! I am going to steal that and slam it down in my game. >WBM

*laughs* Well, something like that. It might be a theme only I am interested in though. Gauging that will be key to the adventures being fun for the party. @Goblin Witchlord
Which brings me to a question: Since Golarion has all kinds of politics, how do you use them in your games, or imagine that you would use them? To be polite, I guess we should stick more with Andoran. >WBM

Well said...and to me, fairy tale or no, THAT is why I want to start my PC's out there. I want to see if they will try and buck the system that is in place, and how they plan to do it when the nearest official assistance is so far away. When I sat in on D0 as a player, my gregarious, CG cleric of Cayden Calien nearly found it too much for his big, soft heart to take. Some of the things happening in the Darkmoon Vale are true injustices, and they are made more interesting to me because they happen in Andoran. So all I was really saying is that complication is good, and that the seemingly contradictory information available on the area with its resultant ambiguity...could provide themes for a game. >WBM

OOOH! COOL! I guess I need to go on and look at HAtD then too!!! >WBM
Thank you for posting these stories! As an old gamer who has taken on the mantle of GMing in order to pass on the hobby to my (much) younger college friends, I cherish these. I am planning to try and chain the Falcon's Hollow stories into a mini campaign for three total newbs (with one experienced gamer as my "shining example") Because of that, I really do like these reports and discussion of fixes. >WBM
So... Like many here I have a plan to run at least a small campaign in Falcon's Hollow. The PC's are point buying, and three of the five are really newbs, so they are on the fence with character ideas. I made a list of what I am calling "hooks" for the adventures I plan to run for them. Originally, I was going to give them a free feat for choosing a hook, but the game has been delayed due to busy adult lives...SO... In the meantime, I thought I would start making these "hooks" into traits for the game and see how far I got before the fellas are done getting their characters together. What you will find behind the spoiler tag aren't traits yet. I have looked at some of the other traits here and wanted to see if any of YOU have ideas for turning these into neato, nearly-balanced, traits...since I have never done this before as a GM. All suggestions welcome. Behind a CUT for space...:
Area/Region Hooks: Andoren Military Grunt:
Highlander:
Lumber Consortium Goon:
Character Hooks: Fated: (good for any character class esp. Sorcerer)
Mission from God: (good for Cleric, Paladin, Druid)
Pathfinder Hopeful: (good for any)
Plot Related Hooks: Bodyguard: (good for all, best for Dwarves)
Chasing Down A Dream: (good for all, best for Dwarves)
Enemy: (good for any class)
Friend/Mentor/Contact: (good for any class)
"Kobolds Ate My Baby": (good for any class)
Lost Love: (good for any class)
Mentor: (good for all)

That blurb you find in the setting book, or the Pathfinder Society info about "hard people with a love of freedom" isn't really the interesting thing about the young "democracy" in Andoran. (In my opinion) The interesting thing is that some of the important details are left out. The questions that arise make gaming in Andoran potentially full of interesting questions. Why is there such oppression of the poor working class by the Andoran Lumber Consortium in Falcon's Hollow? If "everyone votes" how do these domestic injustices occur? As a strong, but young nation with a broad international political agenda and mighty heroes abroad striking blows for freedom...where are the domestic heroes, kindly policy makers, and benevolent clergy? In Golarion, thirty (or so) years free doesn't seem like much time to get your political infrastructure together. So that ambiguity leaves room for good game fodder, right? (and eventually they will write an Andoran supplement and then you will have more of an "official" picture of the country to use or ignore as you see fit) >WBM
*just chiming in here* My GM allowed my first level priest of Cayden Calien to use his holy symbol as a buckler. How sweet is that!? Pretty sweet, its not anything great stat-wise, but I didn't really want anything like that. Just replace my buckler with a big stein, and let me keep playing baby! >WBM
Very cool! Thanks! Anything else? They haven't crammed a Sky Citadel into one of the Adventure Paths yet? >WBM Locke1520 wrote: All things Dwarven coming in October.
