Myself and four friends have been playing through Skulls and Shackles for the past year. We just finished adventure 3 and chose our role cards.

Our party:

Valeros the Tactician
Alahzarah the Stargazer
Damiel the Grenadier
Lini (role not chosen yet)
Jirelle (role not chosen yet)

Lini and Jirelle cannot attend every time so many times we play 3-player or 4-player.

It can get a little stale playing the same characters for a year straight. I am looking for a way to spice up the adventure by every now and then having someone change characters just for one scenerio.

What is a fair / balanced way of doing this?

Here is my thought. Let's say Damiel will be changing characters for the next scenerio. He will now be playing Feiya for this next scenerio.

- Examine Damiel's skills, powers, card feats
- Check off the equivelant totals on Feiya (and choose a role)
- Examine Damiel's deck and add up the total number of base cards, A1 cards, A2 cards, and A3 cards.
- Draw double of A# from the box (random), then allow Feiya to choose half of them to build the new character deck. (basically this doesn't allow Feyia to pick anything from the box to build the perfect deck, but it does allow her to have a nice mix of comparable cards to choose from.

I am just looking for ideas on how to make this fair. It is not that big of a deal because it is not a permanent charact change, it would just be to allow people to experience other characters for fun.

thoughts?

Thanks!

Hello -

I have played SaS for many years. I also played the first few scenerios of WotR multiple times using different characters to get a feel for the new box set and new characters.

Recently I downloaded every single character sheet from Paizo.com as well as all class deck sheets.

I would like to play through WotR myself using only two characters. I realize that 3 characters would be much more balanced but I decided I would really like to try it with only two. I also don't want to limit myself to characters from WotR. I want to open it up to any two characters from any set or class deck, and also possibly shuffle their class decks into the box as well.

My initial thought was that some sort of Oracle that also used heavy attack spells would be invaluable. My experience with PACG has been knowing what is coming next is more than half the battle. That said, I know that WotR is combat heavy so the oracle would need to be able to handle its own business in combat.

Here are my two questions:

which two characters from any set do you think would compliment each other well to conquer WotR?

Would shuffling class deck cards into the box be too powerful and break the game?

THANK YOU!!!

Hello all -

I see a lot of people on the forum using Imp as their alley with Damiel.

Is Imp really the official card name?

That does the card do? I can't find any pictures of it on the internet.

Could you explain a little bit why the Imp works so well with Damiel?

Thanks!

EDIT: off topic - what does the card liquid ice say?

THANK YOU!

I am looking for feedback regarding these two house rules. Do you have any ideas on how to make it better or even just better wording?

Wounded Trait
If a player fails a combat check and receives damage, their character gains the Wounded trait for the rest of the scenario. Players who have a character with the Wounded trait must discard the top card from their deck at the start of their turn. The difficulty of all combat checks during this turn is increased by one. When a player is healed, the Wounded trait is removed from their character.

The idea is to make combat failures and the process of taking damage more serious.

Cursed Blessing
If more than one blessing is used to add dice to the same check, each blessing beyond the first is buried instead of discarded.

The idea for this one is you can still stack blessings in our 6-person game and make checks incredibly easy, but there is now a penalty if you do this too often, especially early in the scenario. Blessings begin to be buried and unable to be healed back.

Thanks for your time.

Can Damiel use a Noxious bomb and a Pistol in the same combat check?

In theory I think so because you are not using two weapons in a single check, you are using an item and a weapon.

It just seems a bit too powerful so I am not sure. I played him for the first time yesterday and decided not to use the pistol until I figure out for sure how it works.

Thanks for your time!

I have been really enjoying this game and always thinking to myself how amazing it is that they could balance a system and rules that are so complicated. A lot of my solo adventures with three characters come down to 5 or less blessings left in the pile.

Last night I started the scenario Bizarre Love Triangle in adventure deck 3. I encountered one of the three villains very early in the game which is usually great because it closes a location early and gets rid of a stack of cards (preserving the blessing pile). I easily defeated the snake villain using Survival with Lini. Only then did I really start reading carefully and realize how hard this scenario is. Even though defeated, since there obviously was not two other villains in the stack, the snake was undefeated. I had to burn 4 blessings from the pile and the villain escaped into 1 of 5 locations, including possibility the location he came from.

I started running the numbers in my head, the scenario is nearly impossible. The only way to close a location is to manually work through the entire stack in every location, which you normally can't do in 30 turns, let alone each time you see a villain you burn 3-5 blessings.

I packed everything up and called it a night, it was a bit depressing. Should I skip this scenario, skip the rewards and just move on to the next?

Thanks for your time.

I did do some searches and found some very old threads on this forum but no clear consensus on what is a good method. It was mostly what people were "going to do" but never true feedback if it worked well and they were happy with it.

Has anyone ever sleeved all of the cards with these:
https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-100ct-Penny-Sleeves/dp/B0002TT3N4

and then took out the box insert or stopped using the box all together and used these:
https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-Magic-Pokemon-YuGiOh/dp/B00EA9REK6/

to store the cards?

I want to sleeve my entire box for my own reasons, most specifically my young children like to hold the monsters and look at them.

Thanks for your time.

I have always played this way because I have always played multiple characters solo. I lay the hands out on the table and treat it as a puzzle where I look at all hands at the same time and decide on the best play. This weekend I am going to teach two friends how to play and I am not sure what the rules are for freely showing cards. Obviously when you teach someone you could make a house rule to help them learn the game and freely show in some training scenarios. What is the official rule on this? Can you show your hand at any time? Must it only be to people at your location? Are you never allowed to actually show and only speak what you have?

Thanks for your help.

I have read somewhere in the rule book that if you are told to summon a card, but there are no cards left named that card, then you should still summon a blank sheet of paper and pretend that it is a copy of that card. I am paraphrasing of course but that was the gist of it.

My question is when a card tells you to encounter a random ship... lets say I am on the Truewind ship and there are 5 other ships in the box. Do I summon 1 random of the 5, or do I treat the Truewind as a 6th possible ship and summon one of the random 6?

Basically can the ship I already control be duplicated to count as a potential enemy ship as well?

As always, thanks very much to this community for answering all of these questions.

Page 10 of the rulebook states "Each player may activate any power no more than once during each step."

QUESTION 1:

Lem ability 1
You may recharge a card to add 1d4 (□+1) (□+2) to any check by a character at your location.

Lem ability 2
When you would recharge a card, you may shuffle it into your deck instead.

I know that Lem can only use his first ability once per check, but can he also immediately use ability #2 to shuffle the card instead of recharging?

QUESTION 2:

ALAHAZRA ability 1
You may recharge a card that has the Divine trait to examine the top card of any location deck (□ or the blessings deck or any character deck).

Does this mean she can use the ability multiple times in the same turn... for example during stept 1 when the blessing deck advances, during step 2 during the move, during step 3 during the explore etc?

Also, can she use the ability during other player's turns as well as long as it is no more than once each STEP?

QUESTION 3:

In summary, am I correct that character powers can be used during any players turn at any time as long as it is used no more than once per step?

Thanks very much for your time.

Hello -

Sorry for the newbie question. Is there a website where I can sort and filter all cards? Example: I could select "Monster" type from a dropdown list and "base set" from another dropdown list. A table would display all monsters from that base set as well as the ability to view a screenshot of the card or read the card's data.

Thanks for your time.

1. Jirelle has a power that says if your check has the swashbuckling trait you may reroll one die on your check. you must take the second result. My cutlass has the swashbuckling trait. does that mean I get to reroll a die? The monster I am encountering does not have the swashbuckling trait.
2. The sea hag monster says that when I am dealt damage I must first use weapons to discard. I currently have a cutlass displayed. The sea hag is dealing me damage. am I able to discard a displayed card or is the displayed card exempt from being discarded?
3. thieve's tool item says I can discard the card to defeat a barrier whos highest difficulty to defeat is 11 or lower. Can I only use that item on my own encounters or can I use it from a different location to a friend who is encountering a barrier?
I will probably have many more questions to post. thank you very much for your time.

Before you act succeed at a check or they are evaded. After you act bury a Card. If they are evaded do you still bury a card?

Thanks for your time

Chapel - when closing banish a card that has the Devine trait.

Can you choose not to and leave the location open if you have a nice spell that you do not want to give up? This is single player so I am not worried about being rude to a cooperative team.

Thanks very much for your time responding.
