I am running a campaign and the wizard crafter wants to take the Arcane Builder discovery. If you are unfamiliar with the discovery here it is:

Arcane Builder wrote:

Benefit: Select one type of magic item (potions, wondrous items, and so on). You create items of this type 25% faster than normal, and gain a +4 bonus on Spellcraft checks (or other checks, as appropriate) to craft items of this type.

Special: You may select this discovery multiple times; its effects do not stack. Each time you select this discovery, it applies to a different type of magic item.

I am curious what others think but he is assuming that when it says "select one type of magic item.." that it is meant to sync with the specific crafting feat (i.e. craft arms and armor) so he can choose "arms and armor" as a type. I am of the opinion that it is NOT meant to sync with the feats and when it says type it specifically refers to the type of item, for example weapons OR armor. What are other's thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Now that it's official I'd like to announce that we have our first 5-star GM in New Orleans, LA (and probably the entire state), Walter Helgason.

Congratulations Walter and thanks for all that you do for PFS in our community.

So does anyone already know what they will be playing for this? I have no particular preference and can make a character to fill in where needed.

Long time VL Brett Carlos got a well deserved promotion to VC for Baton Rouge, LA.

Congratulations and thank you for all that you do for our community.

Q. Can you use the free action touch attack from casting a melee touch spell (in the same round) after partial movement and still finish your movement after?

For example, can you cast Shocking Grasp, move 15' to within reach of the enemy, attempt the free touch attack, then move another 15' to complete movement?

There has been some recent discussion on whether this is possible with arguments on both sides. Here are some threads that discuss this:

Deliver touch similar to spring attack?
Wizard Touch Spells
Touch Spells - Free Touch Attack Questions

Arguments in favor say that because it is a free action and free actions can be combined with other actions normally that you can do it.

Arguments against cite language from the normal condition listed with the Spring Attack feat as rules against any attack mid-movement. Also that the rules for touch spells in combat give a restrictive list of when the attack can happen: "You may take your move before casting the spell, after touching the target, or between casting the spell and touching the target."

It seems that this question has come up enough times that it could be FAQ worthy.

Please hit the FAQ button if you agree.

There is a lot of SPAM by this vikashnathji account going around this forum. Could the powers that be please ban this person? Thank you.

Are there any plans for a meet and greet this year? I know Kyle isn't putting anything together but has there been talks of maybe meeting at a local pub or something?

A buddy of mine made a paladin that can cast Deathwatch at will. He used it in a game I was GMing and we were unsure of how the spell worked. The basic rules of the spell are: 30 ft cone and it lasts 10 min/level. My friend thought that he could cast it and look in different directions throughout the duration to get creatures' statuses. I argued that I didn't think it worked that way. The spell doesn't have a target of personal or you so I don't think it is a spell that you can move the area by looking different directions. The way I think it works is that you cast it and get the status of anyone within the 30 foot cone. Then, for the duration, you would know the status of those creatures that were in the initial cone effect.

Can anyone provide any insight on this?

Talks of overrun in another thread got me thinking of a possible scenario and whether it would be legal.

Overrun states that it can be done during a charge. Also, the target being overrun can choose to let the person go past.

What if you wanted to charge an enemy but you had an ally directly between you and the enemy. Could you charge the enemy and overrun the ally with them letting you by and continue the charge to the enemy?

OK, so I'm confused as to what this feat actually does. I use Hero Lab and don't see anything different with my animal companion with this feat selected. It could be that it's a bug and I was going to send them an email but I couldn't get a solid function of the feat by reading it.

Huntmaster feat wrote:

Benefit: If you have the animal companion class feature, pick one of the following types of animal companions that this feat affects: bird, dog, small cat, or horse. If you have the divine bond (mount) or mount class feature, this feat always affects horses.

You gain a +2 bonus on Handle Animal and Knowledge (nature) checks with creatures of that type of animal. Furthermore, you are treated as one level higher when determining the abilities of your animal companion or mount, as long as it is of the chosen type.

At first I thought that the companion was 1 level higher but the bolded part confuses me. Does it only affect certain aspects of the companion or am I right and it is just a level boost? It also doesn't mention any kind of cap like boon companion does. Is it capped (at character level) and just not written in the text?

So I'm looking to build a battle oracle for PFS and I'm looking at 2 options. I am curious as to which may be better. Option 1 is just go straight Oracle and option 2 is to dip into fighter (2 levels?). Straight oracle will net me more and higher level spells while the multiclass route will get me a few more hps as well as a couple more feats while sacrificing those spells. Any thoughts?

Is there a FAQ or something that states what the choices for animal companion are for the mad dog barbarian archetype? It does not explicitly say what is or is not allowed in the description of the archetype. This is mainly for PFS. I made one using Hero Lab and it let me pick from a lot of different animals. Hero Lab is usually pretty good about being accurate with the rules but I was looking around for something official and couldn't find anything.

OK, we were playing and someone wasn't adding the Rapid Shot penalty to all of their attacks. When mentioned, someone else said that you also take that penalty to all Attacks of Opportunity for that round. I had never heard this before but it came from someone who has played for a long time so I went with it. It really didn't matter because the archer didn't have Snap Shot and thus didn't threaten to use AoOs.

So, my question is whether or not this is true. The initial argument was that Rapid Shot requires a Full Round Action thus the penalties apply for a complete round (until your next turn). I don't think that because it is called a "full round" action that it applies to anything past your turn.

Thoughts?

My level 1 Magus/level 6 Ranger just leveled up to level 8 for my first Arcane Archer level. I am wondering if the Arcane Pool Enhancement (+1) to my bow stacks with the +1 enhancement to my arrows for Arcane Archer. My initial thought was that they do but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?

So, I GM'd my first scenario over the past weekend and have a question regarding monster stat/ability reveals using knowledge checks. I know the CRB lists basic creature types related to each knowledge skill but is there a more detailed list somewhere that I can reference when GM'ing, and if not could someone maybe post a list for me? Also, maybe it's posted somewhere and I just missed it but, in scenarios that don't specifically say it, what is the DC for said checks? Thanks in advance.

So, I just started playing PFS a couple months ago. I used to play AD&D back when I was a teen and young adult (I am 34 now). Back then I had DM'd a couple adventures with friends but that was it. I play in New Orleans, LA and was interested in trying my hand at GMing for a couple reasons: 1) our PFS group is growing and it would help us with organizing on game nights, 2) I think GMing would help me gain knowledge of lore and game mechanics and 3) I think I'd really like it.

My main question is what scenarios do you think are easiest to run for new GMs? I downloaded the First Steps scenarios already but I am willing to buy any others that may be suggested. Another question I have is what books do you recommend I read or skim through for additional knowledge that would really benifit a GM, other than the obvious ones? I've read the GM 101 guide already.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
