Trailer

The Exorcist is one of my all-time favorite horror movies (and one of the all-time greats). Of all the films to follow in the franchise, I only ever found the third movie (with George C. Scott and Brad Dourif) to be really good (although I never watched Believer).

Still, this is a great cast: Scarlett Johansson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Laurence Fishburne (who seems to have been cast in the "Father Merrin" role, a worthy choice). And Mike Flanagan is awesome with horror. The plot does seem like it's borrowing heavily from the third movie, so that's also a plus.

Eva Marie Saint, ‘North by Northwest’ Star, Dies at 102

Trailer

This was too funny not to share.

This looks like it could be fun. Good voice cast - Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Waits, Bobby Cannavale, Alan Tudyk.

Trailer

Damn! That looks kind of wild and weird.

Trailer

Surprised I didn't already make a thread for this. This new movie is by Zach Cregger, the same guy who did the very entertaining Weapons. The trailer had me intrigued, as did his participation.

I'm not a big RE game guy. I'm familiar with some folk who are, however, and they've seen the movie. From those reviews, it sounds like a really good horror movie, just not a good Resident Evil movie.

Not sure if I'll take time to see this in the theater, or just wait for it to come out on streaming.

Rosalind Ashford, Original Martha and the Vandellas Singer, Dies at 83

She helped give us some great music. Rest in Peace.

Teaser Trailer

Well, that was surprising. And quite dark. I’ll be interested to see what this looks like as they develop it more, but that far out (2029), with the way things seem to be going, they might not even offer a physical copy. In which case I probably wouldn’t buy it.

New Zealand actor Sam Neill dies at age 78 after cancer recovery, family says

I’m so very sad to hear this. He was one of my favorite actors, going all the way back to Attack Force Z, the first movie I saw him in. Looks like I’ll be running a mini movie marathon.

Rest in Peace.

For those not familiar with this movie, it’s an indie horror flick about a dude who wishes his crush would love him more than anyone in the world. And it’s very much a case of “be careful what you wish for….”. The movie only cost between $750,000 and $1 million, but had cleared over $400 million at the box office. Not too shabby.

Anyway, I finally got a chance to rent in on Amazon last night. I’m glad I did. It was a solid story. The acting was pretty good to amazing. Inde Navarrette was spectacularly and occasionally creepy. Some parts were well and truly disturbing. And I like that they don’t try to really explain anything about the source of the wish.

Anyway, I would encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to do so. It’s still available VoD, and I think drops on Peacock by 17 July. It might also still be in theaters.

Legendary Singer Peabo Bryson Dead At 75 After Suffering Stroke

Sad to hear. He was a wonderful singer. Rest in Peace.

I had heard this series was coming, but hadn't realized it was released until I saw some reviews on YouTube. My only familiarity with the noir version of Spider-Man was from those animated Miles Morales movies. Nevertheless, being a fan of both Nicolas Cage and Brendan Gleeson, and someone who enjoys a good noir movie or series, I decided to give it a shot.

It was...entertaining. An overall straightforward plot, but with some nice twists. Some humor. Decent action sequences. Some solid performances, especially Brendan Gleeson as an Irish version of Silvermane. There was even a bit of body horror. The only thing I wish they'd done a bit different was to add in more CGI to liven up the fight sequences.

They gave you the choice of watching in either color or black & white. I chose the black & white, since I thought that went better with the noir theme.

Overall it was a fun little series.

Trailer for Nolan's Odyssey.

It looks impressive, but I'm not all that up with the cast. Particularly, I just don't see Matt Damon as a good Odysseus, even though I like him as an actor. Nor do I think much of Zendaya as Athena. Although I do think Charlize Theron as Circe is really great casting.

I'm also a little iffy on trying to do the Odyssey as a single movie (as near as I know, he's only doing the one). To me, in order to do the story justice it'd have to be either a 2 or 3 part movie, or a TV series.
