Zindelo agrees the place needs to be searched. "This is good; these notes are the final proof we need of their actions. Providing this info to my aunt will be all we need to close the case and calm the city - for now. I doubt that the official story will mention Runelords, not helpful. But people that need to know will. It should get us out of any trouble we may be in because of the last altercation." Seeing Elrawien's look he hasten to say, "We will not forget the truth or stop the hunt for Garroth. And others will join us someday, but scaring people will only make for greater problems. We will hunt for rescue and revenge to the ends of the world. If we haven't already; where are we? Mel -" Zin breaks off as his finally notices Elrawien isn't listening and Mel isn't around. He chases after Elrawien who finds Mel in a bad state. For once Zin stops talking and lets Elrawien try out compassion. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
As Elrawien hurls herself toward the pools Zin seeks to stop her and tries reason again. "Elrawien! This will not save him. Do not throw away your chance at vengeance. Take the time to grieve, then plot an epic retribution. What more Holy Quest could you go on? Make your rage a sacrifice to the Savored Sting; deny what the Runelord of Anger wants from you, and give her a cold meal of agony. It's the only way to hurt her." Zindelo uses all his persuasiveness to get Elrawien to get command of herself.
After the innkeeper falls, and events turn much darker, Zindelo spins into a defensive position. When Melifan speaks to him Zin nods, and whispers back, "Agreed, we can't win this battle today. I'll try to talk them down." Zindelo speaks louder, as persuasively as possible, "Friends we have the killers dead at our feet, and against such a great power we have no chance; we best honor our lost friend by not throwing our lives away pointlessly. We can keep him in our memories while we live, otherwise no one will remember him or us."
"Hegin is too close to the caster, I'd likely hit him instead." He then shrugs and set down his crossbow, and tries to maneuver into a flanking position around the caster. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 Get to flank without drawing an AOO. Zin moves, almost seems to be dancing with great grace, as he gets to a flanking position, drawing his short sword as he does so.
Seeing the woman being strangled by Garroth, Zindelo checks his attack and reverts to a hold action. He calls out, "Check to see if this is his action or if he is under some curse. If I was barding this tale, this would be a sacrifice. I hope I'm just over suspicious though." Sorry guys very spotty lately, can't shake my current illness. Will this winter ever end?
Since he see Hegin charge the bartender, Zindelo fires on the woman who is no lady at all. Actions round one:
Attack roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 Light crossbow.
How the time flies! Sorry for not posting sooner.

It seems he is a bit overdue but I guess we can bot him through this fight at least. I'll post in gameplay in a while have to run now.
Zin stays unmoving, noting the signs of movement. He considers his approach when Hegin signs for silence and motions to 'keep low'. It appears that Hegin thinks he's a master of concealment, like it's even possible to hide in a well lit room, empty room. OH no, I think he just tripped over his own feet. Zindelo suppresses a sigh, moves quietly to an arch and listens further. Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
I'm a little unclear here, is the movement of unknown person within the same chamber (room) we are in or is it in the next room? From your description it sounds as though we are in the same room and there is no cover so we should see and be seen instantly. If not, exactly where are we, the movement and what cover if any is available?
After walking into the circle, Zin feels a cold, eerie sense of being watched, as he moves rapidly through nothingness or everything. Then he pops into an orange and red lit area that momentarily disorients him. By instinct he freezes, then warily looks about. Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12Looking for anything +5 for Traps, +4 for finding objects per Canny Observer.
"It appears our capable casters have set the way. Now all we have to do is jump blindly into the midst of potent murderous maniacs to stop the madness. Okay who else is crazy here and will join me?" Zindelo while talking and the circle is being set, writes a quick note that on the surface seems to be a pointless complaint about bad booze but is a quick coded message saying that the tavern-keeper is clearly involved and he is pursuing through the magical circle. He conceals it in a spot then makes subtle marks elsewhere that other agents of his aunt will find and know where to find the note. Zin looks at the others to see who will join the madness parade. Yes, to level 2. ;) I hadn't done it when things stalled and forgot to do it till now.
Updated my character, biggest change is the Rogue Talent Canny Observer. Canny Observer (Ex) [Paizo Publishing LLC -Advanced Player's Guide,
If there are any questions about the level up, please let me know, DM.
Zindelo looks with sympathy to Elrawien, "I do, and I'm sure that Mal does as well; I did not know Garroth well but I liked him. We can and will mourn him but for now we need to act to find his killers and avenge him. After all Garroth did not strike me as the forgiving type. Let's get the bastards!" Zindelo tries to comfort Elrawien enough to keep her focused, but he means everything he says as well. Zin moves to the cellar to start a more detailed inspection of the cellar to anything of interest here. He'll expand to the rest of the place as soon as he can, but he doesn't want to linger. Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 Looking for clues +5 for Traps, +4 for finding objects per Canny Observer. Character sheet updated.
Earlier, "Huh? Oh I think she means a dowsing rod, stuff some mages use to find water. Hmm, after the hullabaloo dies down we need to go back and search for clues. It's our only lead." Now,
Just realised I never did my level up. Be back later with updated character and some rolls.
Zindelo waits quietly for the guards to fail to find them and go away. Then he'l sneak off to another area that is likely not to bother with any reports of miscreants they may receive, along the way he talks to the others. "Okay that didn't go well, it seems clear they are connected to the the bad guys' or are them but that whisk away trick make pinning them down a bit troublesome. Any ideas about what to do about that? What's our next move?"
Zindelo carefully goes around where the guards are and stealths away, leading any that are with him. He notices the large number of guards and starts to wonder why so many for a barfight? K:Local: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 What's up with area, especially so many guards about. Zindelo not having the best luck here...
Zindelo nods, "Best be about that, we'll need the spellslingers to sort this out." Zindelo bounds out of the cellar calling out, "Can't find either the barkeep or Garroth, but did find a burned looking circle of the type we've seen before. I guessing that's how, we need to know where. Any ideas?" Zindelo looks around with a sinking heart, thinking Well, there goes discreet, but I'm sure we are on to something here.
Unfortunately, it's looking like the end here, Thanksgiving is over, if Tobaris had even a minute he could have given a heads-up by now. So I think this game is in a coma now, I'll keep checking for a month though. At the New Year, I'll consider this dead, and my character released; hope it revives, it was rolling well, and had an interesting plot.
Just got back from Thanksgiving dinner with the family (needed to be today do to various schedules). No word yet and it has been more than a week, getting a bit concerned, his last message was worded somewhat worrisome but indefinite. Guess we will see, I'm still checking most days. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Zindelo keeps his presence of mind enough to avoid the attacks while the bar erupts. He vaults over to the way where the barkeep left. "Garroth, it looked that the barkeep went down a tunnel, is that it? Zindelo in pursuit if possible. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 A leap to get to the passage easily.
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 Any signs to follow?
Zindelo sighs as pointless violence breaks out, but feeling the surge of dark emotion as the protective spell is removed, he draws his blade as well, adopting a defensive stance. "I do not wish harm to anyone here, let them deal with it, without getting involved." Zindelo clearly is referring to the tussle between Garroth and the barkeep. Full defense
"That's where I went for the moment. Just back." At the barkeeps Zindelo notes it but lacking funds cannot reach a deal just yet. Have to tell Auntie about this, gold or garrote, he'll tell what he knows, not timely though. Zindelo sits down, waits to see how it plays out, studying the barkeep. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 Does he really know something? Is he involved?
Zindelo is surprised when Garroth went to the bartender and just asked.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Get the info. Wow, not the time for that roll :(
"We're getting closer, but we need to turn it to action. This location is important in some way. Just how?" Zindelo looks over the bar, trying to see exactly what is and isn't there. Is there anything that might be hidden, trapdoors or secret passages? Is a taproom or an inn? Does it appear that the proprietor lives here or is it empty when closed? Zindelo continues casing the joint. If he was to break in sometime to do a through search what are the weaknesses of the place, and the strengths? Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
"Anythings possible, we have a lot of theories now, what we need is some way of sorting the truth from the fancies. That's not a bad idea there Hegin, sacrificing what you love to work dark magics is a frequent theme of bard's tales but is it how magic really works?" Zidnelo shrugs his ignorance of things magical.
Zindelo studies the map. "Agreed, it does seem like totally different killers, but then both are using the masks on them. Does seem like a link. Magic, masks, two types of killers, maybe even more than two. Now, are they independent of each other, perhaps inspired by the dark magics evident in the city? Or directed by someone - or something, for a common purpose? Frustrating, we are getting closer but I feel like I'm missing something obvious. What could it be? ..." Zindelo trails off, trying to think of something but what he does not know. For a second, "We need more info, back to the masks. If they were made with skill there are few that could make such, and fewer with motive. My knowledge of the ways of the gods is small, as small as my knowledge of the ways of magic. Is there any cult, known to any of us, where the use of masks is important to them?" Zidnelo glares at the map, seemingly angry that it hasn't yielded up the answers so determinately sought.
Zindelo has bided his time, taking in the odd change of atmosphere. When Melifan shows up, Zin murmurs, "Total change of emotions here, anger to confidence, but still aggressive, calculating though. Not sure of the purpose, I'm sure there is one though." Commenting on maps, Zindelo says, "Varisians don't use maps, memory and the occasional itinerary is the custom. I know the town well though, and I can read a Chelaxian-style map." he looks on Amira's work with genuine interest. Pardon my absence, swallowed by RL, cut my way out for now to get back to what's important.
Zindelo warily enters the disreputable establishment. His eyes take in the scene. He knows little of this place not having had business here before. He feels his mood shift, less angry, more confident. His wariness abates and he joins in the dwarf generous round. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 Does he notice that his mood is changing somewhat unreasonably? That the tone and nature is different but still unnatural?
Zindelo fighting the angry influence finds himself in a rare state of speechlessness. As events move to a lessening of tension, he masters himself enough to say, "Well it doesn't surprise me that your wizard's staff has a might sting to it. Still it's best if we fight this dark influence." Zindelo looks thoughtful for a second, "Someone yesterday told of ancient magics, could someone be messing around with the old magic of the forebears of this land?" Zindelo tries to get back on topic before thing really get out of hand.
Zindelo turns to the terrible scene developing. Both horror and anger rip through him as they start to turn on each other but he fights the anger suspecting that it's the influence. Still as he approaches his feet are stomping and he speaks with a lower voice flat with suppressed anger. "Stop it now, all of you! Elrawien, break the spell. You are letting this dark power control you, why would you, a master of manipulation let yourself be so used? Focus your attention on what is doing this to everyone. I doubt, whatever it is, will share whatever it reaps with you."
Zindelo watches the events with a kind of horrid fascination, then when Melifan talks to him, he nods in agreement, and goes with. "Sounds good Melifan." Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Less to hide, more to blend in. Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 Anything dangerous or out of the ordinary. Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 Aid Melifan's gather info.
Zindelo is not sure to be grateful for Garroth's bravery, or just be afraid for him. Either way he lets this idea play out to see if anything useful comes of it. "Let's concentrate on this for now, please. What's next to test ... whatever it is you're testing, Elrawien?" Zindelo continues his often fruitless efforts to herd cats.
