    Background:
    Zeltirina was born to fly. Ever since she was a girl climbing the spires of Korvosa just to feel the wind blowing against her face, she knew that it was the sky where she belonged.

    Her graduation from the Endrin Academy was the proudest day of her life, and her happiest was the first day she rode Alize up into the clouds, knowing for the first time the glorious freedom of flight. For two years the pair patrolled the skies above Korvosa, hippogriff and rider, and served the Sable Company well, but all of that came to an abrupt end.

    One rainy night, the half-elven girl had found herself and her squad in a heated aerial skirmish with a rogue arcanist. After slashing and clawing through swarms of summoned fiends, the magician was in her sights, it seemed it was all over... and it was, though not in the way she had imagined, for he had one last trick up his sleeve, unleashing a fiery fury against her that consumed the life of her faithful and beloved mount, and left her falling, unconscious, to the hard cobblestone hundreds of feet below.

    When she woke, several weeks later, she was surprised to be alive, though the relief of survival was quickly replaced by horror when she attempted to rise; the fall had shattered her spine, leaving her paralysed from the neck down. This combined with the news of Alize's fate left the girl disconsolate, barely accepting the food and drink brought to her. This continued, her life a blurry haze, for what seemed an eternity, until she found herself with a visitor.

    Melthane Auxarion, a skilled and ambitious conjurer working with an elite and secretive branch of the Sable Company, had an offer for her. He promised that he could let her walk once more, move freely as she once had done... all that was required was to bind her body to the otherworldly essence of an outsider. Had she been in her right mind, she may have had doubts about such an arrangement, but in her grief-stricken state, she readily agreed to his terms.
